• 50hz servers to close down

Herogod writes, "Sega Europe have announced they will close their 50hz servers on June 9th this was posted on www.playsega.com EU users can log in to read this news:

**** IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL USERS ****
From 9th June 2004 the PSO Episode I&II players will no longer be able to play online using the 50Hz TV display option. SEGA recommends that any player using the 50Hz option immediately change their PSO settings to the 60Hz TV display.

This change does not affect players who are already using the 60Hz TV display, who do not need to take any action.

To switch to a 60Hz display, place the PSO disc in your Gamecube and press the 'Reset button'. Hold down the 'B button' whilst the Gamecube restarts. A message asking 'Would you like to display in 60Hz mode' is displayed. Select 'Yes'.

Further instructions can be found in your PSO Episode I&II manual. Alternatively, please contact SEGA Product Support, who will be happy to help.

No this wouldn't effect anyone in the NTSC regions because NTSC already runs at 60Hz.

Or at least i think it does...

Just to make sure I didn't confuse anyone more than they were already, I just double checked and yes NTSC run at 60Hz.

Just in case, NTSC is the North American and Japanese tv standard, so you can see why this wouldn't effect those who live in those areas.

My big question is why would it matter to the servers what display mode a GCN is set at.

Because the 50Hz game runs slower and would cause animation glitches between the two settings.

Oh ok, that makes sense.(remembers hearing about a trick to get Super Mario Kart to run real fast using a combonation of NTSC and PAL game paks, converters, and SNESs, the correct combonation I can't remember)

What about 50hz users for episode three? Won't they be able to get online?

true. Probably for a good chunk of the pso player community they only would use one site for pso news.

Probably that there arn't too many people using the game on 50 Hz. even if you look at the EU 60Hz ships there arn't too many users on them either.

Good pal TV?s suck, id hate to have to put up with only a 50hz refresh rate, hopefully this is a step towards getting rid of pal TV?s off the planet.

It only affects eroupe Tv's or (PaL) Not Usa and japan tv's

They have always been NTSC and always refreshed at 60 Hz Or now with HDTV there al progressive scan so it don't matter much anymore.

I mean even in the days of the snes it was made slower because of those tv's. It?s horrific glad I always had a ntsc tv
