Any computer on the net can become a server, given proper software. The biggest hurdle lies in creating that software.

Perhaps Sonic Team has a good reason for shuting down Phantasy Star Online 1 and version 2 for a reason. Hopefully they could focus on the more current ones not to mention episode 3 is suppose to be on its way for the gamecube. Really trying to take care of 4 and and what should be on its way 5 phantasy star online for a console that is obsolete couldn't be possibly easy. I am sure Sonic Team will not care about petitions this is Sonic Team you will try to reach and do you think they will listen?

They won't start fooling around with the DC servers since most gamers switched to GC and X-Box versions of the game.

I for one agree that one, Team Sega isn't going to listen to any polls or email and is just going to shutdown the DC/PSO. And two it is about time to put that service down and concentrate on giving both the Box and Cube new content!

Have ever seen a petition work? never in the videogames business. I love this game, but it is time to upgrade. I was realy surpised that it stayed up this long. I know people don't want to pay but you gotta pay to stay. I also would like SONIC team to work on content for XBOX and GC.

With all due respect....someone mentioned that the server should be shut down so Sega can focus on new content.

New content...like a stupid card game that almost no one may play? If I want to play a card game, I will play MTG online.

I'm skeptical about a new card game. So are 2/3rds of the people I talked to.

If someone knows of the means to host a PSO server on their comp along with emulation to manipulate a DC game to be played on the PC, I will personally host a private server.

      False advertisement.

It says 'free online play' on the box. And nowhere in the manual or on the case does it say that they reserve the right to charge for their service at any time. I think they do mention something about reserving the right to -cancel- the service - but not charge for it.

Furthermore, it'd be a PR nightmare, and noone plays V1 anymore anyway.

I know the DC is a nice system, but, guys, Sega's withdrawn any support for it, and the fact that PSODC has gone on this far is a gift in and of itself. Your best hope will be player support from now on, not from ST. Hell, they haven't even rescinded the doublesave patch yet, and everyone knows that all that does is cause corruption. :/

Not sure what to say about all this, but I did find this on Sega's site:

We hope you enjoyed our online gaming services that were extended six months beyond the original shutdown date. Thank you for supporting Dreamcast online gaming!

If they closed the 7 unnecessary Japanese ships, and the 3 unnecessary EU ones, they could continue the Oberon ship. This could have been done MONTHS ago.

They could have reduced to one ship per region months ago, thus saving money, and enabling them to extend the US PSO DC.

Incidentally, Sega makes virtually nothing from the EU service, yet that has not been closed.

Ehhh...Now it`s like this - "You`re not the only hero" changes to "You may be the LAST hero" - the last person who will stop playing PSODC will have my eternal respect - I mean c`mon - all the players of PSODC were THE FIRST players of PSO at all! Yeah, I understand - Next-Gens rule and all that crap, but hey, DC still lives! ST must shut the old servers down in order to concentrate on new productions - I`m ok with that BUT how many of YOU, my dear players, had DC`s in the first place and changed them later to NGC? I mean no offence but remember uncle Alighieri`s words - RESPECT TO ALL PSODC PLAYERS! (we are the oldschool)

Ive tried emailing and writing sega letters asking about running game servers. They just brushed me off saying it was an unsolicited game idea. Oh well, guess we have to do it without segas help :P

Dont know quite how old this message is but I thought Id just make sure people knew about the current server emulator for PSO that supports both the PC version of PSO and DC PSO v1 and v2 of all versions, ex Japan,EU,US

The adress for website which has the instruction on how to get on is: http://www.emulationgalaxy.co.yu/emuforums/viewthread.php?tid=4648

And the servers surprisingly have a good amount of games going on at one time so you would be able to join in on one or just sit around and talk in the lobby without having to look too much.

      Just letting you all know.
