The official Blue Burst website is up and running. The site goes on to say that there will be many new elements to this version of PSO featuring game masters that will establish order in the communities, a new "team system," server side saving to preserve character data, increased polygons, new graphics and new interactivity. The same old 12 character classes still exist and there are no new character classes.

The new team system will let you register teams with the server and be known by that team which will enable you to create mini communities. Once you have a team made, you have your own real time chat channel that runs independently of what ship/game you are in.

You can view more screenshots of PSOBB in our Screenshots section

A new character will appear in the principal's room which introduces a Episode 2 new storyline through a new Episode 2 quest category: "The Principals Prefecture".

The free closed beta trial will start on Friday, April 9th at 7pm JP time and participants have already been picked. ST apologizes for not being able to cater to everyone. For those of you that made it into the trial, please do not connect tot he game server before the starting time.

The ASOBITTO city mall event on Sunday, April 4th, was a huge success and many people showed up to get a chance to play the trial. Closed beta trial kits and special mousepads were distributed to the people who showed up. All 500 kits were given out in less than 20 minutes.

Nifty. Too bad that knowing ST, it won't ever see US release. If it does, though, I'll probably get it like the consumer whore I am.

I would just go buy it on the internet, even if it is a JP version.

Reminds me of linkshells, clans, and/or other such channels, since you can keep a seperate channel with a group and be known by that group name.

I still love the fact that it has server side saving, so long as at least ST keeps THOSE secure enough to avoid a worldwide character wipe. That would be upsetting... PSOBB seems more and more like an MMORPG the more I hear of it. Of course, that may still be delimited by the 4 person teams within a game.

Imo, server side saving wasn't the solution it's just gonna lead to more problems. The way pso currently is, almost all the work is handled on the client side (such as walking), and this will be a MAJOR problem. What problem, you ask? Bots.

Nothing is going to be preventing someone from making a locked game, starting up a bot, and having that TELL the server it attacked a booma with the saber in hand, then was able to move out of the way in time not to get hit back.

Such bots would be able to gather items, kill enemies for exp, feed mags, and who knows what else.

The BIGGEST problem with server side saving is how badly this will be treating 56kers with one phone line (yes, people like this still exist). They won't be able to mag farm, hunt rares with a 1/20000 drop rate and so much more.

What I would have liked to have seen is multiple server types. Ones with server side saving, and others that would be more friendly to people that like to play offline, but want to come online sometimes (although this brings in the problem of hackers). This way everyone (?) would be happy.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Server side saving doesn't solve every problem. It just makes the problem different. The hackers will always find a way around. Giving a big disatvantage to a decent chunk of the playerbase (the 56kers) isn't the solution.

Note: If both server types I suggested above will exist, then I applaud sonic team on what they're doing.. as server side saving was an imaginitive solution people were looking for, but with offline characters able to come online, this won't alienate 56kers and people that like to hunt rares/gain levels offline. (as the enemies tend to be easier to kill there)

That might be the BIG news that IGN is going on about....A new PSO or even BB for Playstation 2 online.

Well, it's nice to see that ST will be making even more money on essentially the same game YET AGAIN.

This makes the April 1st joke even more funny.

Also, Ep. 3 hardly counts as a new game. ST barely did any graphics work for that.

What in the heck are you pattering about now? Mind you I'm not standing on my head or squinting juuuuust right, but I see no PS2 logo anywhere. If there was to be a version of PSO for PS2 it would of been done quite some time ago. Also PS2 is the weakest system of the three major consoles spec-wise so I don't see how a version with 'more polygons' than the others is going to fly with that system.

So if they HAD done graphics work, that would have made it a new game? That's almost the stupidest reasoning I've ever heard...

Good graphics do not a good game make.

Actually it sort if does. If a game has bad graphics people usually won't buy it in the first place because they have already seen the graphics. But it's not TOO big of a factor, still you need to consider it.

Are you kidding? There are a lot of models that are the same, but there's gotta be half a gig at LEAST in new textures, models and cutscenes!

Maybe not too many models were added, but there was definately plenty of new graphics.

What about all the images on the cards themselves?

      The cut-scenes?

The other various extras such as the level select map.

Not too much on the 3D side, but plenty of 2D additions!

      Hmm...(possibly) cheat-free PSO?

How long will Sonic Team save your characters? Will PSOBB have any offline play?

There doesn't seem to be much of a graphical improvement judging by the screen shots.

Even if the polygonal count gets upped, without some updating of the textures, everything will still look like it did in the previous versions.

I wonder if they added more character appearance options? The DC->GC/Xbox transition brought some new costumes/android colors but what about some new hair styles, faces, etc?
