• EGM Rumor - PSU is coming to the 360

Ancient writes, "In the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, the Quarter Man (rumor) section of the magazine is quoted as saying:

Roughly 250 hours - that's how much time The Q has logged on all the different versions of Phantasy Star Online. So yeah, you could say that I'm a tad bit excited for this summer's full-fledged sequel, Phantasy Star Universe. And now it seems that PS2 owners won't be the only ones losing their social life to this off-and-online role-playing game, as PSU will also arrive on the Xbox 360. Oh, one more thing: If you start playing the game on Sony's console, you will be able to transfer your online character - thanks to all stats and items being saved on Sega's servers - to the Xbox 360 version (which will hit a few months after the PS2 installment).

True, the Q is devoted to rumors and deep inside scoops. But I cant remember the last time he was wrong about things. I suppose you could hold off the celebratory parades untill Sega officially announces it, but I think the chances are looking very favorable now.

I have a feeling the xbox 360 version of psu is gonna suck.... What I don't get is why Nintendo isn't putting any thought into maybe having PSU on the Revolution....or maybe they are?

I think someone's been hanging out at GameStop too much. If it were coming to Xbox 360, I would anticipate that they would've announced such by now, for starters. I may very well prove to be very very wrong on this, but I don't think Xbox360 is going to see it. That's my opinion.

I thinkn i could see it coming out for Revolution and 360 becasue the game is coming out at the very end of a consel cycle, that might make sales low for the PS2 version. I think they probably would have anounced it for 360 already also but Nintendo hasnt Showed anythig yet so if they are making PSU for Revolution then they probably are waiting for E3 if they are even mkaing the game for it. If it is a launch title for Revolution i would gladly buy the revolution Version over PS2 version.

250 hours? Is that suppossed to be a lot? I spent over 3000 horus playing PSO on Dreamcast. Also, this is purely rumor. I highly doubt PSU will be coming to 360 anytime soon.

Its not far away from release in Japan and why would Sega port it to 360 in America and not in Japan? Wouldn't they need to setup new servers? I see no indication at all that PSU will ever be coming to 360.

Seriously, 250 hours of PSO isn't exactly what I'd call a huge fan.

I also see no reason why Sega would have kept quiet only about the 360 version, and MS would want it to be well-known asap. It's a JRPG, after all.

The sales would still be very high on the PS2 version, because all of the original Playstation, and Playstation 2 games are going to be backwards compatable on the Playstation 3.

we all know the machine isnt going to be a powerhouse next gen wise... what are the odds of it being ported to this.......

(that and i read on the latest gamesmaster uk magazine that developers said the machine only has 128mbs of ram....)

^until i hear officially on a nintendo site i didnt believe that lol

We really don't need it, because the revolution will be backwards compatable with all Gamecube games, therefore, if they keep the servers open, the Gamecube version of PSO will still be able to be played. And even if they don't, it will still be able to be played offline.

Agreed. Besides, the port from GC to xbox wasn't even worth buying the game all over again as far as graphics were concerned. And the screenies I've

seen from the trailers make me think that the X360

won't make it look much prettier.

Nintendo highly discourages ports, besides the PS2 isn't the most muscular system any more. It's got a phenomenal userbase, hence I understand why Sega's supporting it.

Here's to hoping that the 360 really gets PSU.

It's funny that you say that Nintendo discourages ports, because almost every single capcom, and sega game released on the Gamecube was a port from the dreamcast. Super Monkey Ball, PSO, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Resident evil 2,3, and code veronica, the megamn collection was ports from the original nintendo. And games like soul calibur 2, and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation were released on all 3 systems. Plus, all of those midway collections, and namco collections, are a bunch of games ported onto one disk.

I've always been optimistic about an Xbox 360 release, although this particular snippet doesn't actually raise (nor lower) my hopes for one. Even this late into the console cycle, a PS2 release is reasonable because of the backwards compatibility the PS3 is almost assuredly going to have (not to mention, of course, the installed userbase).

The Xbox 360 needs more RPGs and a Japanese presence. I don't think Sonic Team has demonstrated any real aversion to the hardware at this point, either (isn't the next gen Sonic game slated for an X360 release?). And with server-side save functions, the game is unlikely to be marred at all by the unreasonable "Xbox Live required" point that its Xbox counterpart had (which, coincidentally, didn't matter in Japan because the game was *bundled* with starter kits).

I'm still going to wait for an official announcement, of course. Like I said, though, I'm already more than certain an announcement will come... eventually, anyway.

I dont think they discourage ports, i think 3rd party companys just really dont want to because it will probably have low sales on their current system.

I'll believe it when I see it. XP

Also, 250 hours? Between all versions? Please. I'm a PSO lightweight compared to most people, and I've got a shitload more than that. I've had that much time on characters I recreated. Hell, my HUmar alone has 600+ on him... XD

i know... but itd be nice if they would port it... it proberly wont be much work if the machine isnt that powerful.. and Gamecube has a userbase that will most likely invest in the revolution..

hope we get surprised and get the port

This is big news indeed. If the versions are all programmed to be the same (which IS possible, just have the default graphics set to what system is being used) this could indeed spark the end of the console wars as we know it.

Geez it's fake... Every MMORPG that comes out now, some wise *** always claims it will be released on Xbox360, but it never will. Look at WoW, people keep saying it will be released on Xbox360, but Blizzard has said over and over that it will NEVER be released on a console.

Want more proof it's fake ? You don't "transfer" your characters. They're tied in with your account. If I go to my friends house, I can log into my account on their PC. I can play a FF11 account on a PS2, then go home and play that same account on my PC. EGM is garbage.

"Transfer" is just a word. He probably meant (more accurately) that your PS2/PC PSU account would be accessible on the Xbox 360. Unless of course you're suggesting that he meant that there was some physical means of moving characters and items over.

A rumor is just that--a rumor. Nothing to flip out over.

Corporate interest and capitalism will likely forever stand in the way of that.

Unless, of course, the console market crashes completely. In which case, I suppose it would 'end' that way, too.

i was under the assumption that the online part of PSU is a seperate entity from the main game itself, so it wouldnt surprise me if you had to sign up for an account, log in then make the character i.e like PSO BB, that way you could in theory use that same account or character on a toaster or a toothbrush if it could run the game
