I believe the article is inaccurate. There was never a version of PSO v2 for Gamecube or Xbox. Episode I&II was the first (and only in the case of Xbox) release on those consoles.

YEAH! 12 paragraphs on PSO history and "awesomeness," then just a clever little 3 sentences saying PSU sucked! AWESOME! things just to keep in mind while shedding some light on the existence of PSO2! WHATEVER!

I think they were going off the Plus version for the GC. but Fun to hear about PSO again.

It's kind of sad that mostly, the only positive memories people have of Phantasy Star are memories of PSO. I'm not saying PSO is bad, its just that I wish it wasn't the sole success of Phantasy Star.
Imagine a world where PSU wasn't horrible? xD

It wasn't even horrible, it was just run badly outside of japan! And being ported from PS2 held it back! If it was so damn bad compared to PSO, the JP version would be dead too! But it's always cool to look right past that and say "PSO4LIFE PSUSUX!"

PSO isnt my favorite, I loved the portable games. Yes they are so similar to PSU but it felt different for some reason...
Not to mention how much i loved playing the original xD

The article really took me back to the DC days, albeit including the GCN/XBOX Episode I & II, the GCN exclusive PSOIII, and Blue Burst for the PC. And, no. I didn't forget the PC version of PSO V.2.
