• Phantasy Star Online 2 Servers Will Not Be Linked

Japanese gaming website 4gamer.net recently interviewed Satoshi Sakai, producer for the Phantasy Star Online series. In the interview, Sakai talks about the creation of Phantasy Star Online 2, future updates, and the regional servers. In particular, he mentioned the North American/European servers will not be linked to the Japanese servers.

This turn of events will surely come as a disappointment to those that were expecting globaly linked servers.

Actually the problem is that they PROMISED Global Servers before PSO2 released.
And that SoA has a past of killing games...

I'm not saying PSO2 will suck, I'm saying that SoA has a bad reputation. And, with the game being Free to Play, gives SoA more reason to not fully commit. We had to pay to buy PSU, we had to pay $10 per month. For PSO2, free download, and no monthy fees. Maybe we would have to pay for expansion packs, but I don't see that filling Segas pockets they way they want. All I'm saying is that I, like alot of people, am not getting my hopes up. If SoA doesn't give us what we want, then alot of people will switch over to the JP servers, and the Western PSO2 community will start to dwindle. And then eventually end the Western PSO2 servers, like they are doing now with PSU. I never played PSO, always wanted to. But I did play PSU and I loved it. And I will be playing on PSO2, but mostlikely the JP servers.

I was surprised by the sheer outrage this caused! While playing on segregated agrevates some, could it be that the community is partail fault for a game to fail? Just reading all the comments here showed me that most of the people who reply'ed to this expects the game to fail and wont give it a shot. Well if the game isnt being played the company is going to lose interest in it. Im going to play the western release, to support it and to give it a try. I have to wait for the Vita verstion as it is and this gives me a chance to play with people around my level. Along with the compairing to PSU, while it is one of the most recent Phantasy Star that had online doesnt mean that since it didnt go well other games from the same company are going to fail also.

People are forgetting (I suppose due to hope) the bad handling of PSO and PSO:BB, the latter of which was PC-only, so nothing about it can be blamed on M$, like with PSU. It's sad to say, but SoA simply has never been able to provide proper support for the Phantasy Star online games.

Will this time be different? Yes it will. It will be worse. For PSO, PSO:BB and the first couple of years of PSU, SoA was bigger and there was even a Western version of Sonic Team. Now Sonic Team West's gone, and SoA is much smaller. SoE was, in fact, given SoA's game testing responsibilities, and SoE as well as SoAu were downsized recently. To expect a much smaller team to give better support while still doing all the stuff the larger team did (localization, support and promotion of all SEGA titles on the West) is beyond naive. It's just not gonna happen.

They ARE making a global server. The japanese just happen to have a server just for them.

For your info, I'm portuguese. And what I meant was that I see no benefit in playing with people who I can't communicate with.

Relax. Everyone has there opinion on the matter at hand. I disagree completely on what he says simply because im pretty sure that people got fired and retired before this. If there are new people working on the game then i think that they will put more effort into the game. of course this is a hypothetical situation im talking about but i know its true cause its the way of life.

True statement there. Saga is making global servers for all the western people, but japan is keeping their servers to themselves. This is the kind of subliminal message that they are trying to give out (Japan rules, everyone else sucks). Its so sad.

Far from it. This is merely a common practice in MMOs, either they're korean, japanese, or even from mars! Suck it up and wait for the global server. Just be grateful they don't separate it even more with a dedicated server for the US, and another one for Europe! Wouldn't surprise me, and wouldn't take my will to play it, either.

And be also grateful they're even releasing the damn thing on this side of the planet, willya?!

i already made that grateful comment a while back (read my comments that i left on this subject). i am grateful for them releasing a western version of the game. my comment on your comment was a joke. i know that they're separated cause of language barriers. im just all fun and games when i leave a short comment like that (i also ment to leave an lol after my subliminal messages sentence, my bad :P).

well what about psp and psp2 huh. Those are still there. psu is not their latest title in the series. The reason why we missed all the content was at one point we fell so far behind until it was impossible to catch back up so the servers were behind ever since. And again they still need to update their other games, while updating psu.

Ah, I apologise, then. You know, there's so many people genuinely complaining about something so common that it's hard to spot someone who's just kiddin'. XD
