I remember some JP screenshots from the pre-beta days... actually, I was with people when we saw them, and we had a conversation about how retarded they would be.

the real question should be, where the hell are the slicers? What is Phantasy Star without Slicers, the kids in Phantasy Star 3 (especially the third generation) would be disappointed.

Photon "whip"? In a game that would be released on the PlayStation 2?

I don't think I've EVER seen a PS2 game where a whip or whip-like weapon was used well AND looked good, come to think of it. Closest I can think of is Castlevania (...make...hurting...stop...). Second closest would be Ivy from Soul Calibur 2/3 PS2, but her's wasn't a "whip"...just joined blockies...

PS: Agreement on no slicers in PSU = blasphemy of the worst kind.

Seriously, some of the slicers weren't too bad. That rare one that sacrificed life for MASSIVE DAMAGE!!! was good for bosses.

The screenshot your thinking about was a screenshot of a laser cannon shot being fired. Its commonly mistaken and assumed to be a potong whip of sorts.

Deghana uses a Heat Whip similiar to the one the Goufs use in Mobile Suit Gundam. I've solo'd GoFb/a enough to know that much. It's a whip.

No, it was most definitely a whip. It very distinctly had gayish whip features, i.e. the curving whip. It was a closeup shot, btw...

PSO had cards too. I haven't seen the new ones in action though, so you could be right.

Cards are close enough to slicers to make me happy. Slicers are basically just throwing blades, which is the description of the cards. I don't like how it's a ranged weapon and doesn't target a large group, though.

um... in Phantasy Star 2 there was a Whip. Anna used it and you buy it from Zema on Mota(via). it was the ONLY one in the game but it was there.

They're just not practical weapons.

And slicers were probably taken out due to kinda really sucking when the photon launchers were released.

If we did have whips, you can bet that there would be a million and one Franziska Von Karma clones running around.

Whips were kinda good in NWN. Free disarm feat so I can go Indiana Jones style? Yes please! The 1d2 damage sucked though. You needed high strength or some type of extra damage to really make em' shine though.

It might be practical if normal hits could stagger the enemy...the PAs would be pretty fancy too. Also, as for whether or not it would actually hurt the monsters, it would be a whip made of energy. Think light saber whip.
