Only melee weapons can lock on. You need to strafe to aim if you're using a Gun or Technics.

It was a cheat code made long ago, on systems like The Family Com. (Nintendo Entertainment system.)

Adopted from the spaceship side scrolling game Gradius.

Later, all current games started using variations of that cheat code.

It pretty much became the grand father cheat code for all games XD

Yes. It's the button that switches your camera around. If you hold that button when you have a target around an enemy, you will lock on if you are equiping a melee weapon. You can't lock on with any firearm or casting weaponry.

A small history lesson from Konami Games:
The history of Up Up Down Down (http://www.blinkbits.com/en_wikifeeds/Up-Up-Down-Down-Left-Right-Left-Right-A-B-A-B-Select-Start)

Kind of weird that games have fun histories XD

Actually for Super C it was Right, Left, Down, Up, A, B, Start and it only gave 10.

If you ask me, you're better off not relying on lock-on. The controls are good enough that anyone with skill can do fine without it.

Hmm...funny how I always forget to try the code on Konami games not called Contra. I'll try it on various Castlevanias...

Dang, never actually thought about it. Gonna pop in PoR and DoS in a bit...
