Alright! Listen up everyone!

The guild Primrose Syndicate presents: Do Your Little Turn on the Catwalk

Location: universe 10, 1st floor Clyez, Central Table, PC/PS2 version

Time: Sunday, January 14th, at 7:30PM PST (I'll post the other time zones later if you can't figure it out)

Categories:
-Best Dressed: Aim to be the most fashionable. Match your clothes, have a devastatingly awesome outfit to blow people away!
-Craziest Outfit: the craziest outfit and hairstyle you can come up it. Aim to look like a giant strawberry, or a clown, or...a spoon?
-Swimsuit Competition: How sexy do YOU look in a swimsuit?
-Best Quote: A saying to enhance the outfit
There will be a male and female division for each. Each competitor will be allowed to say one "quote" to go along with their outfit.

Rules: The judges will set up 3 lines, one for each category. We will need you guys to cooperate to make this work in a timely fashion. The judges will be shouting what line is which category, and you must line up accordingly. The judges will then go down the lines and take names.

You may only compete in ONE category.

After that, we have planned out an area of the Central Table to become our Runway, crowd area, and judge's circle.

We have taken a picture and highlighted each area to illustrate:
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b118/Breakman6/mail-1.jpg
-Competitors, when their category is called, will stand where Mikan is.
-The Runway is highlighted in red, starting where Daisy is and ending where the red ends. It is a straight line.
-The Judges Circle is highlighted in green. NO ONE IS ALLOWED IN THERE EXCEPT THE JUDGES PLEASE. This is to avoid confusion.
-Finally, crowds (assuming we get enough people) are allowed to gather on either side of the runway, where Vaxillus and myself are standing.

Prizes: 1st place = 2.25 million, 2nd place = 1.5 million, 3rd place = 1 million. There will be a male first though third place and a female first though third place for each category. Best Quote = 2 million, and worst outfit overall will be awarded 500k.

Please remember, this is in no way affiliated with Sega, and the prize money comes out of player’s own pockets.

We will need everyone’s cooperation for this to work in a timely fashion!
WARNING: You will be banned from future Primrose Syndicate events and disqualified from this one if you cause trouble!

Thank you,
-Primrose Syndicate

Actually if you add up the total rewards its costing us 400k, which for some people might not be a lot but for the first event we're hosting, we can't quite shell out huge sums of money. For a lot of people I think the main point is just to have fun and meet other players.

That being said, we're definitely going to be hosting more events down the road and we're getting more money as time passes as a group, so the prize amounts will go up.

I'm sure the amount of fun in participating in such an event is worth much more than any amount of meseta.

thats such a good idea i will go with my friend and i will MAKE him join in lol. Yes! i cant wait it will be ace!!! Sunday, what UK time would it be (GMT). Woohoo, I dont care if i dont win i just want to take part, except what about fairness, because the lower characters who have less money wont have as good clothes than the ones who are higher level with better clothes?

I was just thinking, you'll prolly spend more buying your outfit, then you'll get for first place.

Despite what Primrose Syndicate would prolly want me to do, PM me on here if you need money to buy an outfit, I'll donate up to 60k to any one person for an outfit of their choosing.

k thanks bye

Unfortunately, that would be 3:30 AM your time, however, we are going to do this again in the future (not too long after this one I don't think) and it will be at a much more convenient time for people over in europe if we can help it.

Also, we've talked to the judges about making sure they're fair, and not to vote lower just because someone's clothes are cheaper.

You're joking, right? You must have the biggest fan club I've seen on this website since Sciler was doing that "bootilicious" stuff back in 2001. Half the PS2 users would borrow a 360 to show up.

That aside, I have an idea for an event myself....

maybe like including some 7-8* items and 30 mil meseta?

but i really like fashion shows and think it might be more exciting if larger prizes drew a larger turnout ><
sorry!

Alia
Jan 9, 2007, 01:21 PM
Ahh! No, we will take donations. Due to generous donations already from some people and support from mIRC chat, the prizes will be upped already. However, more couldn't hurt! Turnout is what we want; people get a nice experience meeting some of the other avid PSU players. I will probably/try to be online in my room after 5:45PST. search for Alia in the shops, and I will be collecting donations. I will talk to Arigan and Haruhi Suzumiya to do the same, so you can try their rooms as well.

Thank you all for your generosity.

Alright, yea, so I will also be in my room at 6 PM PST, and for a while after if anyone would like to donate to the event (your donation will be recorded and you will be credited during the event, just so you know).

I seriously doubt this will be an issue, but, rooms do have a limit to the number of people that can enter (its actually quite low, I believe 4 or 5 or so), so if it says that you are unable to enter one of our rooms, try the other, and if that also doesn't work, please try a little bit later.

Additionally, if you would simply like to ask some questions about the event or anything else really, you're welcome to show up and ask away.

Alright, a lot of people probably won't notice in the new edit in the original post, so, heres the updated prize amounts after two really nice donations from Atrap and Hitomi (30 mil and 1 mil respectively).

1st place: 2.25 million (2,250,000) meseta
2nd place: 1.5 million (1,500,000) meseta
3rd place: 1 million (1,000,000) meseta
Best Quote: 2 million (2,000,000) meseta
Worst Overall Outfit: 500 thousand (500,000) meseta

Keep in mind, there are effectively 6 categories (general, crazy, swimsuit, and a male/female version of each) so, the total comes to 31 million in prizes.

I thought it was rigged.

I mean, what the f**k? It's a fashion show. Most of those people don't even know what the word "fashion" means, not even the judges.

After the announcement, I left to do some Bruce missions, ALOT OF PEOPLE SAW MY OUTFIT AND LOVED IT! I was flattered by the compliments but still dissapointed that I didn't even got placed in the event.

How was it rigged? Giving their own members and other affilations higher scores than those who are not in any, especially those who didn't have a quote.

PS: It was somewhat organized but alot of people were too stupid to know what "STFU!!" and "Please move out of the stage" means.

Wrong.

We are not part of jem.

The bit about rigged crap. . . you're basically saying that it was rigged because the judges didn't have the same opinion about what looked good as you. Our members did not win much of anything.

I think the gripes of the "Rigged!!" wailers are not entirely invalid.

Everyone who walked was dismissed with a courteous "thank you". That exact message, without any capitalization or full stop at the end.

Except RubyEclipse, who got "Thank you muchy, Ruby. Always a pleasure to have [you here]" and Hitomi-Chan who got "Thank you Hitomi. a pleasure as usual." Those alone put huge emphasis on what is now perceived as a likely judging-bias. Even Ruby stated at the end that the VIP "thank you" he got was absolutely uncalled for.

It should also be noted that Ruby got incredible scores winning the Male - General category by a large margin, while someone else who wore EXACTLY WHAT RUBY DID IN THE WHITE VARIANT got one of the lowest overall scores (if not the lowest...) in that category.

Vaxillus
Jan 15, 2007, 04:04 PM
We certainly heard these accusations, but I have to question the logic behind them. We only had one or two of our members even enter, one of which didn't place. We are not affiliated with Jem in any way shape or form, nor do we have any reason to kiss up to them. We thought the two of their members had good fashion sense, so they placed high.

Also, please keep in mind that fashion is in the eye of the beholder. It's a matter of opinion, and you're welcome to disagree, but there is ultimately no right answer. Even amoungst the judges, there were times when someone would get both a 6 and an 8.8. Also keep in mind, a 5 is average, we didn't see any bad fashion, it was whoever had the best in our opinion. Still, we were the people judging, and considdering we were giving out free meseta with no cost for the entrant (other than time though you were allowed to leave whenever you chose), there shouldn't be too much room for whining about our tastes.

If we do this again, we are also going to be sure the give reasons. However, due to the rediculous amount of spam it was pretty much impossible this time. We could barely even get our scores out under the 7-8 lengthy messages that were always covering the screen. Several interferences had to be blacklisted and will be banned from future events. In any case, if we do this again (which won't be for a while considdering what a mess it turned into) entrants will likely preregister and information will be mailed to them about the location to avoid trouble causers.

We are listening to your feedback and taking it to heart, but we had a lot more to deal with than we imagined. Still, we'd like to thank all the entrants and the constructive audience members for showing up and at least making a crowd. If nothing else we've learned from this event which should make the next one run more smoothly with fewer unpleasantries.

Edit: also note, in regards to similar clothing, everybody had access to a limited range, and thus there were duplicates of some outfits. This came down to judging how the clothing worked with the entrant's hairstyle, color, and build.

I commented on it as well, I already made suggestions, for me to get as low as possible, not just for modesty sake, but also because of the uproar it would cause. Either way I didn't take the prize money, I doubt Ruby did either, and he has mailed suggestions to them.

But, despite the organization and unity problems, it wasn't that bad for a 1st public event, I was actually quite pleased with the co-operation received when people were told to settle down via mail.

I agree 100% with Vaxillus.
Perhaps I can shed some light on what I personally was looking for in each contestant for the general category.

1)how well the outfit was put together
2)did all items of the outfit match
3)did the hairstyle AND color fit the style and color of the outfit
4)did the colors of the things mentioned above go well with the SKIN TONE of the actual person
5)I also looked at the armor color, however, it's a very minor-ish detail and thus it didn't have that much weight on my decision.

As far as my ability to judge fashion, I worked in a higher end retail store for a year. I daresay I know a little something about matching clothes and what looks good with what....

I cannot vouch for the other judges, and like Vax said, it's all a matter of opinion.

To the part about people getting more intro than others, yes, that was a mistake on my part, apparently. I had suspicion that people might use it as an excuse to call out "rigged!" "unfair!" but I have a little more faith in people's integrity than most people do. I guess I was wrong.

If you need to talk to me about the event, please, feel free to find me in-game, or PM me here. I'm open to suggestions and constructive criticism. I have a lot of patience and I"m willing to listen to everyone who has something to say.

I'd like to thank everyone who sat tight through the whole thing, and remained polite and civil. We applicate it.

Thank you

Hi guys, whats going on in this thread?

There is always going to be people who don't win and accuse the whole thing of being rigged just because someone doesn't like what they think is winning material. To those claiming it was rigged I say this. If the guild really wanted to give all the money to it's members. Why in the world would they go through the pain of staging a fashion show? Events managed by players are always hard to pull off.

I sat not too far off from the stage and watched who came, as well as paid attention to what the judges scored. The judges gave fair scores. They were a lot better then the crowd--who pretty much went wild whenever a half naked woman showed up (sex appeal doesn't equal fashion). Course, I bet the crowd was simply being energetic.

So to those who organized this. Thanks for taking the time and putting in the effort to organize this event. Ignore the people who claim it was rigged and made fools of themselves. There's an old saying. "What's the worth of the word of a fool?" I don't really have to answer that, now do I?

Should I post the outfit I was wearing, and let you decide whether or not the 6.5 given was legit?

Actually, I'd like to see ANY pictures of the event.

I attended, but there were so many people that the PS2 couldn't load more than a handful at a time. Thus, I wasn't really seeing much fashion, and bailed early.

If ANYONE has screens of the event, they'd be appreciated.

*sweat drop* I'm so sad, I missed the event. Completely forgot about it. T.T

But it's a little sad to see people going so low as to call the event rigged because they didn't get the score they expected. When participating, you ask the judges what they think and they "judge" you according to their own personal opinion and general expectations of the contestants. You gave them every right to give you either a high or low score, so there really isn't a debate worth anything here. UNLESS they were CLEARLY giving their friends, guild members and associates higher scores than the other contestants AND were being obnoxious about it which I'm almost sure that isn't the case. It looks like they put way too much effort and spent way too much time organizing and setting up the event to just rig it. I doubt the people accusing them of such wouldn't be saying those things if they had won. XD

No offense to anyone, but if a person is so arrogant that they can't accept losing without insulting the event-holders integrity and/or are unable to respect their decisions (unless, of course, it's an obvious personal attack) then they have no business being in a competition. It's all about getting together with the community and having fun.

I hope that doesn't stop you guys from hosting another fashion event! I'm still bummed that I missed this one. </3
