Rainbow is NOT a global 8% reduction.

Just tested it myself. I encourage others to do the same if they don't want to bother with my data.

49 F. Newman Wartecher on MD S agreeta raptor thingies. I took damage number from jump attacks and tail swipes since pretty much same damage. I avoided all ice blasts and bartas from the data.

ageha senba 0% neutral

90 90 95 88 97 97 90 91 96 92 93 89

ageha senba 0% neutral + rainbow

95 96 92 89 94 90 91 98 96 90 94 95 (basically no change)

----------------------------------

ice gi-senba

25 28 29 26 31 25 30 28 28 26 25 27

ice gi-senba + rainbow

15 16 16 20 20 19 20 17 15 19 16 18 (very nice reduction)

ice gi-senba + wall

24 25 23 24 22 24 25 25 25 24 28 26 (small reduction, but more blocks)

--------------------------------------------

fire ageha-senba

163 160 166 164 159 160 159 164 150 151 (lols fire on ice monsters)

fire ageha-senba + rainbow

170 173 161 177 162 167 172 176 168 164 178 (oh snap i am taking even more damage)

fire ageha-senba + wall

157 149 166 154 159 157 155 153 158 151 164 (small reduction in damage, again more blocks)

--------------------------------------------

So if you are going green armor and are poor, or are using the wrong armor for the zone, don't bother with a rainbow.

If you ARE going elemental armor. Rainbow definately looks quite nice for proper elemental attacks (melee and magic), just know that if you DON'T armor swap, be careful =p

Remedy is going to be angry with you! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_mad.gif

But I guess that your data shows that it's 8% increased resistance to the armor you are wearing. So, I'll be the first to congratulate you on your find. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

All this work to find out something that the item description already tells you.

lol you are right, but it does seem to suggest it being universial. So at the very least this clears that up. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

The thought of it boosting all resistances never crossed my mind, but I can see how some people would be confused. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

All attacks are elemental

Actually it does defend against melee damage, all damage is elemental regardless of physical or tech, what it does is increases the armor's element percent by 8%.

For example:
100 dark damage done against non-elemental armor will hit for 100.
100 dark damage done against 50% dark-elemental armor will hit for 50.
100 dark damage done against 50% dark-elemental armor equiped with Mega/Rainbow will hit for 42.

That's basically how it should go, however the Mega/Rainbow may be a 2nd tier resist meaning 8% less of the total damage taken after the armor's elemental resists are applied...or the way the armor resist is calculated. I don't know if it is as simple as the above example but it gives you an idea. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

I've heard different answers, so it never hurts to try a little experimenting to be sure.

Elemental armor defends against both physical and magic attacks of the same element. The rainbow looks like it adds onto that elemental value be it good or bad. 8% seems to do quite a bit more than the DFP and EVP of a mega / wall, but I personally hate EVP. For forces it might be a different story depending on what you value.

edit: Also although the sample was small, the damage reduction was quite significant, leading me to believe that it is applied at the same time your armor % is rather than after. Making it quite valuable against monsters that normally hit for 200+

What about the attacks from Special Ops Casts, the Rogue enemies, and De Ragnus (not the fire and ice breath, obviously, but the stomping and whatnot)?

For the former two the bullets and weapons are purple but... it isn't quite the same shade as dark weaponry. The bullets often cause sleep as well, a seemingly unrelated status effect. Are these exceptions?

No clue on the bullets, and haven't leveled there much.

edit: my bad

Id like to know the answer to this question as well, since Ive wondered about it for awhile. Do neutral enemies have bullets/weapons/attacks that do neither elemental or neutral damage?

EDIT: Reichii, hes talking about De Ragnus, the 2 headed Dragon. Im pretty sure that its a neutral element boss.

I said this a long time ago, nobody seemed to really care.

Its 8% to your armors element. if you have a no element armor on it does nothing.

I always figured that elemental armors made you that element like what enemies have and the percentage worked like the attribute property that monsters have. In that case the Mega/Rainbow could only enhance that elemental property and the elemental resists that PSO had are gone.

Well call me a vapid idiot and take my librarian's license.

This goes against the research I did myself, but it seems to also be a bit more concise than mine. I'm not one to turn down good, solid research, so bravo. You've beaten the Lolibrarian at her own game. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

I've known this since day 1 of Mega/Rainbow coming out... XD

I thought the description said it well enough.
