View Full Version : What is up with Ultimate Mode?

Erhem... What is up with ultimate mode anyways? The difficulty and drops are scaled so oddly! I'm a level 73 Greenill HUcast, and the Forest, Sil Dragon, and Caves combined are easier than the V. Hard Ruins. But then I get to Da Ral Lie and I go through 80 mates and 5 scape dolls and HE STILL DOESN'T DIE! Does damage to his armor not count towards his total health? 11,000 HP? That's a dirty da ral LIE (haha, get it? GET IT!?!?), I damage him at least 30,000. And what about these crazy drops? Here I am walking into ultimate mode with a Yamato and a Raygun (yes, a Raygun is indeed better than a Varista- 40 more ATA does help) and the very first guy I slaughter (an El Rappy) gives me an Angry Fist! Then I find a Mace of Adaman with 60% on Natives in a crate and the Sil Dragon drops a Justy. Unfortunately, all of that was useless to me as a HUcast. All the caves would give me were high-level tech disks and a general/battle. I went back to the forest several times and all I seemed to be able to get are master/ability, super/resist, stag cutlery (awful, awful weapon) and an infinite amount of rifles. I am absurdly sick of saying "God dammit, not ANOTHER Justy!" I've got 780 base ATP with my mag on, and I can't find any hunter weapons that make use of it. I'm sick of the Yamato (though 300 damage on a charge hit is kinda nice), and I'm sick of Raygun's. I want something that deals big damage close up to multiple enemies and doesn't make me get hit after a N-H-H combo on a Vulmer (do I need more /battle units for that?). Also, what's all this crap about red weapons? I keep hearing that they're oh-so-common on ultimate, but neither I nor my brother nor his friend have run into one. Every time I see a ?SPECIAL WEAPON with a gun icon I get my hopes up that I've finally found Red Handgun, but alas... another Justy... what is up with all this crap?

Greenill = Rifles. Get ready for nearly every special weapon to be a gun, and every gun to be a justy.

Thats actually a pretty good run

People refuse to admit that this isn't version 2. Things have changed

besides being way easier this time-- ultimate does seem to have bosses with lowered evade and defense but harder hits. your level 73 isnt ready for dal ro lie. try going to the shop and getting a good hit% repeater. thats what i am using. mechguns of any type are now useful in ultimate, as long as they have hit %s. a vulcan is only slightly better than a repeater because of ata with very little atp bonus. if the shop is selling one of those 17000 meseta repeaters with 50 % hit it will own ultimate. also found a berdys (red level partisan) with 55% hit and 60 % a.beast. great weapon for swarming vulmers. you really dont need ver 2 specials and s ranks to take on ultimate anymore. good % hit red and even purple level weapons do the job-- i.e busters, pallaschs.
as far as dal ro lie-- hes tough. my level 87 used all my dimates, trimates, 7 star atomizers, 7 dolls and 2 mag reversers to beat. cant get away from that plasma breath. and if you do get past him, mines is really tough.
I recommend a gun that restores HP for Dal Ra Lie. It's really the only infinite source of HP you can get as an offline Android. Just use your Mates at times when you won't be able to fill up your HP with the gun (like between laser blasts), and you should last... longer.

I defeated Dal Ra Lie with my flagship HUnewearl when she was around level 65. Didn't die once. Didn't even come close. I'm willing to wager that your choice of weapons is what's dragging you down. When I fought Dal Ra Lie I believe I was using (and still am using) a Last Survivor with +20 hit and 25% A.Beast (I think). I kicked that worm's ass in just three passes. Even something as simple as a Breaker or Glaive with a good bonus to hit can be your best friend on multiple and multi-target critters. Area % just don't mean what they used to. I choose weapons with hit bonuses above anything else.

Well the thing with Da Ral Lie is, you see, he makes no sense on ultimate. When he gets up on the boat, you get almost zero time to hit him. I was only able to pull off a total of two Last Survivor combos each time he was on the boat. Now, of course, I was level 69 when I fought him, and I'm actually now level 76 and rising (Ult Forest runs are great for exp). I think my main problem with Mr. Lie is that I just don't get enough time to use my weapon of choice, Yamato, on him. That's my huge damage weapon that slaughters bosses. I have a Slicer of Assassin, but the whole fight moves faster than it used to so he's not alongside the boat as much. Fortunately, as far as I can tell, he is no harder to hit than he ever was and I have had no trouble with that, so I don't see why I would want hit photons. Do you think a Slicer of Assassin would work well on him? Would the ATP even be high enough to damage his armor plating? Also, it seems I am sometimes able to hit him with swords when he isn't on the boat. Is that just random luck, or are there certain good spots to stand?

De Rol Le, Dal Ra Lie, and even Barba Ray sway back and forth while swimming around. As they sway their bodies may come close enough to the boat for a sword or partisan to hit (partisans are even better in this case, as they have a slightly longer reach than swords). The key with all of these enemies is that you have to memorize the pattern so you know when you can attack and when you need to run. If you're getting hit and knocked down by the tentacles on Dal Ra Lie then you need to study the timing so you can work your way around them. The problem with using a Yamato is that it's slow and it only hits one target location. Yeah, swords and partisans are abit slow, too, but keep in mind that with each attack you'll be striking four or five target locations. The damage adds up quickly versus a single target location attack. The Slicer of Assassin, assuming it's strong enough, would probably do better overall than the Yamato since it can hit up to five target locations. Your best bet still lies with a sword or partisan and studying the attack pattern to know when to hit and when to run. If you need to, buy a set of di/trimates, go into the boss lair, drop them, die, and repeat as needed. This way you have extra mates you can pick up to help you thru the battle.

Wakazashi-HUcast,
I totally understand where you're coming from.
When I hit Ultimate offline I stomped the Sil Dragon at a measly Level 72 off the bat. Sega did indeed pussify Ultimate Mode AND Challange Mode Online.
I don't care what anyone else says about C Mode being hard but when I 1st started finding stuff in C1 like a Saber with 70% Forest and in C3 I find a Brand with 90% A. Beast with a 70% Hit rate I knew Sega was smoking something.
Either that or they must think a lot of gamers on PSO complained that C Mode was too hard.
A lot of cool tricks don't work anymore but it's just a minor annoyance from me getting to the goal.
Good post Wakazashi but do me a favor and space those paragrahs a bit.
My eyes were really hurting on your 1st post.

My weapon of choise against De Rol in C4 was a nice Drain Sword+14 with 0/90/0/0/90 ah-yes, he didn't live very long.
