Does anyone have a clue as to whether all S-rank rods are race specific? If so I'm fucked and Isahn needs to find a new career...

You mean billions, right? And even then Meseta is worthless to items like that. Trade for other items or keep for an alt.

Looking at the JP wiki now.
So it seems that the Hala was restricted to Newmans...

Aside from that however, the two or three other S ranks listed are unrestricted.

Well, in the best case, you can end up trading it for a gob of equipment that'll help you more than a single S-rank Rod.

For example, a Sori/Force's TP contribution is enough to, if you count it towards each of your weapons, make Mayrods more powerful than Halarods (cool casting effects and larger PP pool aside).

This is why I'm in no way, shape, or form concerned about assembling Halarods until I can have a full compliment of six. There's just not that much of a step up between it and the A-rank weapons to make it worth the annoying process of hunting, synthesis, and then agonizing problems like this. I feel for you, but look at it in another light - you have a very sought after item. You can very easily trade it for any number of sought after items which, together, will likely help you more than the sole Halarod would've ever helped you. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif
