PSU-XBox 360: PSU Idol (Your Thoughs and Comments)

Maylee has shared a great and fun idea for the next PSU Event by myself (Rizen can't necessarly touch this http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif). She calls it PSU Idol (she's more like the creator of the event). Basically it will still be another PSU Meetup, yet we will have a PSU Idol. Players will sing (though Xbox Headset) to compete for the prizes and the title of PSO-World's PSU Idol. There will be random prize conetest for members too. I think this would really spark up a good laugh or two in the community.

There will still be a random prizes handed out to visitors as well. I thought this may have to be a few events than one, depending on who's up for it.
Until I get my video capture equiptment fixed I would need some help with vids and pics. At the end of the day I will put it all up in a video to make it one big esipode of PSU Idol.

It's an idea in the works so Maylee and I would like to hear your thoughts and ideas on this event.

What I'm trying to say I guess is this is something new, we have headsets and the idea is unique. And anyone can win a nice prize.

Though in all seriousness, I have a tendancy to always perform as if I'm being scouted for some broadway musical if not an important film role. I've just been exposed that way. Never like to do things not full-tilt when it comes to entertaining. So if it seems I'm a bit serious here, don't take it to heart. I'm having fun like everybody else, just being really focused. Well you wouldn't have to hold auditions in a room per se. You could hold those on a low population universe in a lobby somewhere. Just form a line and invite people into a party with the judges and the person recording. Then the judges could pick finalists and they can perform in a room.

This idea will never really work.. I have many friends in bands that sing, when i hear them on headset, they sound like a dying rabbit. The headset changes your voice.. most girls sound nearly the same on live for example.

Not necessarily true. I've heard a lot of different voices between both men and women, even in this game. Now singing is tricky, especially if you sing loud music as opposed to softer music. In some cases, people are overdriving the microphone. That is, the sound is too close or providing too much noise for the microphone to receive correctly.

Without direct feedback (as many singers use), it's too tough to tell how they come through. Some mic adjustment or attempts to lower your voice a bit (within reason, some people can't do it) will help. There's a bit of experience that goes into mic balancing, and the only way to be 100% sure is with feedback from friends, in testing.

In some cases, you can take the safe route and attempt to deliver the same volume (by any method) as your typical speaking voice, for when it arrives to the mic. The hard part, as you say, which might support your 'not working' theory, is that you may have a lot of participants who don't know enough about balancing sound so they can soundtest properly, to the judges, before they start.

Oh no, it's still a "y", but the "l" blends in with it, so it just makes the "y" appear bigger. Pixels are a pain XD

To get an idea how you sound with the 360 mic, record a voice message and listen to it. Sampling rate will be a bit lower than that, but it'll help you figure out proper volume.
