I have a bunch of weapons with Yellow names, and some have Photon Efficiency, and some don't. I was wondering if there was any special thing about them, besides that they tend to be the pinnacle of power for that weapons abilities and type.

The yellow lettered weapons are called "? SPECIAL WEAPONS"

These Special Weapons are found mainly in Hard mode-Ultimate. They have moderate power, and some are very difficult and hard to find. The harder the difficulty, the better they get. Some are very powerful, and are found at a very high drop rate, while others are not, they are weaker and appear much more

When you progess in the levels, enemys grow harder. Therefore, Special Weapons will appear, and you will be using them more often.

Look at this if you want to see all special weapons
http://www.pso-world.com/items.php?op=listarticles&secid=8

Other yellow weapons are the 9 Star version of a yellow weapon (ie: Hell Laser, Blizzard Gladius, etc)
Its yellow because you tekked the best ability for the best basic weapon.

I dont think he's talking about rare, rares. There are weapons that are like ???calibur (i got a Kings calibur out of it) and the letters were yellow as if it were a rare, but i got a kings gladius with more photon efficiency and better HIT % and it was not yellow. (Though the calibur was grinded up to 4 and the gladius to 3)

not sure what's up with it though.

--Ooops, i see Banish explained this one.

Yeah, I'm with burning_card, I just don't get why I can find better weapons that have higher Photon Efficiency, and they not have a yellow name...

It has nothing to do with Photon Efficency. That is generated for every weapon drop. You can find a terrible weapon, but get great %'s on it, or an awesome weapon with none.

There are two kinds of Yellow-name weapons:

1) SPECIAL WEAPONS- These drop in red boxes, and once identified by a tekker, they'll have a Yellow Name in capitals (for example, ASUKA wrote in Yellow)

2) 9* Weapons- There are weapon-types and special attacks. Certain weapons have certain star ratings. Special attacks add to this star rating, based on their effectiveness.

For example, a Gungnir is a 5* Partisan. If you then add the Berserk special attack, that adds 4* to it, making it a 9* item. In PSO, any item 9* or higher is treated as 'rare', which is why their name is in yellow. It'll still be in an orange standard weapon box, but will have a different coloured name.

Basically, the colour yellow on PSO items signifies that it's 9* or higher, and is therefore treated as a rare. If there's no star rating, then it'll be in a red box anyway, which also signifies rares.

If you're unsure what I mean when I say 9*, find an item, scroll along to the page with it's description, and for most items (weapons, armour, units, shields), there'll be a series of stars. The number that are lit up indicates the item's star rating.

Hope that helps.

so why is my Kings gladius a non rare? It's kings, and it's the highest of the particular class of weapons (sabers) while my kings calibur is a rare? The gladius is ground one less then the calibur, but has more efficency (though you said it has nothing to do with that)

I'm going from memory here, because its been a while since I played. If I recall correctly, if you look at a Gladius, it's 4*, not 5*. Add 4* to 4* and you get 8*, which isn't rare.

I don't know why, but some weapon types don't have a 5* version.

Calibur IS 5*, which added to 4* equals 9*= rare.

To put it in simpler terms. The ones without the "special names" pretty much suck. Now every thing with a "special name" basically makes your "signature" character (you don't normally see a cool guy run around with a saber collection of different colors telling everyone that he's popular......because only his mom think's he's cool). These are the collection bits. These keep you alive. These are awesome.

Like I said, i'm not sure 100% on that, but I think Gladius was 4*.

photon efeciency?

Photon Efficiency is the %'s against Native, A.Beast, Machine, Dark and Hit on a weapon.

While in the general case that may be true, but looks aren't everything and having just yellow letters does not mean it is a superior weapon.

For example, take a regular Calibur and a Blizzard Calibur. The regular (no special) Calibur has 50% hit with 30% on Native and A. Beast whereas the Blizzard Calibur has 0% for everything. Obviously, the regular Calibur is worth much more, as it both does additional damage and added accuracy which is better than having a special where it freezes an enemy only around half of the time.

certain weapons that are... common can be yellow all you need is the highest rank of weap
like lazer. then a highest rank of attack like hell

Now I understand, one thing to put out there is that I am a mechgun person, and I have a fill vulcan, it's name isn't yellow, but I understand. I use it because it's Photon Efficiency is 45% additional hit rate, as well as 30% against Nature. On the other hand, I have a M&A 60 Vise. It has no additional hit rate, so I use the Vulcan. My freinds think that I am crazy, but I figure that this is the way to go.

well it depends on where you are. if you are in the forest then go with the vulcan. otherwise i'd say the vice... unless your accuracy blows
