View Full Version : How do you all feel about Marriages in this Game?

pionear
Jan 23, 2007, 09:04 PM
Topic? I was grinding with this party the other night and some female character was talking about how some guy gave her a new weapon for their 7th month anniversary.

-Is there anyone else here Married in this game?

-Do they do this in other MMORPG's too?

-And what are the benefits of getting Married?

-Are there any 'Gay' or 'Alternative' Marriages in PSU?

First Question: Not that I know of in PSU.

Second Question: Yes, in PSO for the gamecube there was a special event for it. As well in FF XI, other MMO's I don't know, but it wouldn't be shocking.

Third Question: Highly Doubtful.

Fourth Question: Does it really make that big of a difference?

Edit for additional thought...

Has this game even been out for seven months?

And having an anniversary for something so... random... as seven months? First month I can understand, sixth months sure, one year definitely. But seven months, the hell is wrong with those people?

Probably.

-Do they do this in other MMORPG's too?
Yes. Lots of other MMORGP's do this. Some of them it's a pain to do though.

-And what are the benefits of getting Married?
Well in FFXI the girls got a wedding dress and a gala corsage. There is no guy tuxedo though.

-Are there any 'Gay' or 'Alternative' Marriages in PSU?
Interesting question. There should be since 99% of female chars are played by guys. Just call it a gay marriage and be done with it.

I play with an *actual* female (whom I'm not married to in or out of game, naturally)

it would be neat if you could "marry" in game and get some benefit/disadvantage for in game, but otherwise seems frivolus.

I'm here to chew Koltova gum, and Kick ass...and I'm all out gum!

Good one http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Yeah, it would be kinda cool I guess to offer advantages for doing that.....but at the same time it would be a disadvantage for those of us who don't even Know a Female who plays the game http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif.....or, the alternatives likewise....I guess I thought of those Dresses for example as kind of Castlevania Style costumes...not really Wedding in mind.....then again their are those cakes and even room deco cakes.

Jan 23, 2007, 09:17 PM
Those dresses don't at all look like wedding dresses. They're more royal dresses, something you'd expect somebody with money to wear at a very formal party. I heard something about males getting a tux or something in the database in psupedia.

All I know is that RO had weddings, and it was actually useful for the couple in question - both members of the union got a ring that they could use to transfer HP or MP to their partner, or summon their partner to their current location.

As for PSU? No idea, probably won't happen.

The wedding theme is known as a White Day theme. It was also used in PSO. It's also possible that they will use a White Day rappies, too.

Possible Rappy Amour? a.k.a. Love Rappy: http://psupedia.info/index.php?title=Rare_Monsters

Back in PSO, one of the main marriage-themed items was a bouquet. It's possible that they may bring back this as a White Day special weapon o.o.

I remember back in PSO Dreamcast, I heard of a couple that actually got married through PSO. They had a gathering and did lobby animations and so forth.

EDIT: Oh that's right, they were awarded the first Bouquet for PSO DC as their wedding gift from SEGA.

To me, it doesnt matter how you get engaged or start your life. It's the fun in the courtship afterall. Whether you love someone is what truely matters... and to go through a full wedding ceremony in any reality is true dedication, and nothing to laugh about, imo.

1. My wife and I team together regularly, but our characters aren't "married" (insofar as RPing), per se.

2. Oh, hell yea - ever see the wedding chapel and services on Ragnarok Online - or just about any other Korean game, per se. A lot of Asian games double as "singles bars", so the marriage concept is a lot stronger there.

3. In other games, it depends, as the things you can do vary from MMO to MMO. In this game? No, there's no marriage system here. IRL? Yes, because my wife would kill me if I were MMOing without here (she's a die-hard MMO addict).

4. Not that I know of...nor was I looking for the Blue Oyster Bar, kthxbai. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

Funeral or weddings...it doesn't matter to me which one. I don't see how people can become emotionally attached to someone they haven't even met in person. Looks matter, real life contact matters. People online aren't who they are off.

Online friendships and relationships just piss me off.

Chuiji
Jan 24, 2007, 01:37 AM
@OP...
1: I don't doubt it.
2: Yes. I used to be BIG on korean RPGs, and most of them have wedding chapels, services, what have you.
3: Generally items (more cosmetic than anything) or some effect when you are partying together.
4: There's no official weddings, so yeah. I guess so. Marry a Koltova for all I care.

@Siertes...
The point of playing online is to play with others, make friends, and have a good time. You're cheating yourself by paying $10/month to play with yourself.

And besides, people in real life are just as rarely who they seem to be as people online, no?

PSU Marriage would be cute the people really are a couple/already married... But I just don't see the point in marrying in an online game. 1) It's a character, 2) U really don't know who exactly ur "marrying".

It's personal choice, but I think it's weird...

I'm surprised that nobody have already talked about this reason to marry IG ... "Role Play"

I played paper RPG even before playing video-game RPGs and that, before playing MMORPG. So I am used to RP ...
Ok, it was a big shock when I saw that the big majority of MMO players don't care. But when you encounter other role players, it is nice to RP whenever you have an occasion.

I am ok with MMO wedding, I even encourage players to do such events if it is for fun and role play.
Beside this, 'real' marriages in game (meaning two peoples falling in love through a game) are crap.
We can't fall in love with someone we did not meet IRL ... I won't develop this further, it is not the topic.

Also, I have been married in PSO, my character was of the opposite sex as me, so the character "I" (here "I" means "my character") married was the same sex as me.
I know my case is not the general case, but I guess that is the only good reason to get married in a game.

So are the majority of 'real' marriages IRL too, according to divorce statistics. IMO everyone who wants to should be allowed to give it a shot, it's not like they'll drag the average down.

IRL getting married means officialise the sharing of tax and co. So is our society.

But at least, when peoples marry IRL, it is that they lived for some time together, so it means they probably fell in love before.
And it is where I think it is ridiculous when not IRL, for me it is impossible to fall in love by phone, chat or MMOs, because we can't see the full personality of a person.
On a side note, I would belive in it if I had clues that it is possible, for now, all the couple that formed on a game or a chat broke after a few (if not at the first) storms ...

I'd rather they add more content or fix things, as there are many things that need fixing.

Not being able to easily converse with anyone outside of your party mid mission is a major pain. "Sorry guys, wife is mailing me and all, one minute.... oh I uh, hafta go to my room, and lock it, yeah.... cyas"

You know what's funny, Gothica? When I read the first post, and then a few after with people being jerks, the first thing I thought was ".. well maybe they meant in real life, dur."

"Are there any benefits to being married?" Oh god, come on, people. First off, this game is never going to have a marriage option. It's just too much. Dresses or no dresses, wedding music or no wedding music.

And for the record, on PSO, the White Day music was the same as the Valentine's Day music. The WEDDING music was a lobby music used in the month of June or July (i forget which) because APPARENTLY according to Japan, that's the month of weddings or some bullcrap. I'm sure that PSU will have the same lobby music at the same time as it did in PSO. Dur.

And frankly, maybe I'm just a bit touchy about people's rude thoughts on couples in MMOs, but I think you're all being really childish about it. Sure, it's fine to make fun of two people who've just met like, a week before and are like omg <3333 or whatever. When I played RO, i swear, people would just walk up to me and be like "Hey, will you be my gf?" or "Wanna get married?" All I could do was stare in disbelief at the monitor before (depending on my mood at the moment) tearing the guy a new one, or calmly explaining that girls don't really like it when boys do that. Smart girls, anyway.

Some couples met elsewhere and have transfered into playing PSU. I just don't think online couples should get such a bum rap. I'm madly in love with Skuda, but at the moment, we're living far apart while he goes to school. I've had people make fun of me for that, about the whole "lol internet relationship." Well, I plan to move sometime this year, so it won't even be the case anymore. It just burns me up when 1) people mock all relationships like that or 2) stupid people "get together" in an MMO and act like retards about it. And for all you couples out there, COURAGE. <3 If you're in love, you're in love. :3

*takes deep breath*

Okay, phew. I feel better now. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif So anyway, no, I don't think we'll ever get that option in PSU, that's way too complex for sonic team to process. It sure was fun in RO, though. And EXPENSIVE AS ALL HELL. what pissed ME off is that you couldn't wear your wedding dresses or tuxs into battle. You better be able to wear the formalwear in PSU into battle, or I'm gonna be.. mad. ;<

I'm with someone, but I think the "L word" is too early to be saying. In all relationships I've had, that word is thrown out too early, and the relationship faulters too quickly.

It'll come when you're ready, Ryuki. When it's right, you'll just know. :3

"Every kiss begins with K!"

I couldn't help but think of those cheesy commercials when I read that. People really like to throw around that "You'll know" line as if it's some scientific law. Maybe he'll never know. Perhaps he'll just have to settle for what he has and call it love...just like everyone else.

Anyway, a little more on topic. I didn't know about other games having the wedding stuff. That just freaks me out.

I know a couple thats married outside of the game but they don't do much special inside, just party together and allow me to make comments on their love life.... like the time I got a mail from the wife saying "I can follow directions" (concerning Bruce)

No no, I know what the word is. I breathed that word with one significant person, and all the other people I've said the word to, it just never seemed "fit". Unfortunately, that person's no longer.. here.

So uh. Yeah. No "L word" for me yet XD

In this day and age, people do meet online. Be it from video games, message boards or those weird matching/dating sites. People sometimes are to busy to just go out there and cast their line and see who nibbles. The advantage of online is that you get to know the person a little bit better before having to meet them. The disadvantage of that is their online persona can be different from their real life persona but that is a risk people will have to take.

Gothic and I met in FFXI. *shrug* We didn't plan on hooking up but it just happened. He also lives far from me too and we do plan on commuting to see each other more. With the possiblity of either of us moving closer.

It just happens ya know? As for the "L-word"...It's a hard feeling to discribe. And as Maridia said, eventually you'll know it. As corny as it sounds, it is true. No one can tell you that your in love with someone. So who else is to tell you? Gothic and I were dating for a few months before we considered our feelings for each other and figured what we felt for each other was love. *shrug*

I'd like to point out that there was in fact a marriage conducted on PSO, with Yuji Naka supervising it. That's where the Bouquet of Flowers came from... but I aint got no links.
