I was wondering if SEGA made any annoucements regarding how long they'd be supporting PSU with patches and updates.

The game's only a few months old. It's a bit early to start worrying if they're going to pull the plug. Then again, we are talking about Sega....

I just wonder what's going to happen after they finish "unlocking" all of the content..

hmmm....maybe they'll drag it on for a while releasing less and less each update...

That's exactly what my concern is.

There's alot they can do after unlocking content even without reshuffling things or the ability to add color filtering to have recolored/retextured areas for 'new' content. Rebalancing, adjusting prices, adding weapons that're sorta alike but have a different color, trust me, even after all the 'freash' content is done, sega will be quite capible of dragging the update train along for awhile. However i'm hoping they'll let thigns sit a few months and see how the server plays out before doing any rebalancing/adjusting.

I'm gonna bet it's gonna be like PSO, where not every single bit of content was released.

Until the new Phantasty Star comes out or I shank ST and reboot the series. Bring your fuzzy shirts.

ahahahahahaha

Shut up.

On a serious note, PSO for Gamecube got supported for years (4), and some for JP PSODC. SEGA will be working on this for a long time.

It wouldn't be TOO hard for them to just make interesting missions (Imagine a ton of missions KIND of like Bruces dungeon, not to mention all the seed infection missions.)

Coming this summer. The event Phantasy Star fans have been eagerly anticipating since Universe was released.

Phantasy Star Universe
MAXIMUM ATTACK 2

Miss this, and be a cronub forever.

I thought I heard/read a "five year plan" somewhere, but I've got no linky to support it.

If they plan on updating for years they need an expansion disc. For the PS2/360 they don't require a HDD and memory cards are not that large so there is only so much you can update before you would use up an entire card so they really can't just continually add content for the next 4 years or so unless they start only updating the PC version, which is impossible, there needs to be some kind of a disc.

I think they just need to let PSU die since it's a disgrace to the Phantasy Star series. And they should start working on a next gen PS, none of this ps2 port bullshit.

Hm, considering it started on PS2 to begin with it was the intention all along.

it actually started on master system.
and pso started on dreamcast >.>

the only ps games that hit playstation2 were the rehashed phantasy star 1 and 2 and psu.

The Japanese DC server is still up, the North America one was shut down years ago. You can still play the Gamecube version, it will be free for one month before the shut down.

There is no way they will have a sega psu server for US 5 years from now. We barely get one full universe as it is just think of all the money they are wasting for only using 5% of their servers.

Would be easy if it allowed us to visit the Jpn servers. But since we acted like spoiled children on the previous versions fat chance of that happening. If we were able to link up to jpn server then Im sure it would supported for a while. 5 years, doubtful, but a couple of years yes its feasible.

I would imagine they'd just kill a few unpopular Universes. I think they killed off some of the "ships" in PSO in it's last year or so.

I'll have to bring NPCs along and make then run into the stupid nodes so I don't have to reflect and erase. But the goggles... the goggles.

You probably don't have enough time to see what makes it truly awesome. Although some of what makes PSO awesome isn't yet unlocked on PSU...

They need to make some kind of update for a split screen mode when they do put an end to it. Like give us an option to take online characters into offline mode (permanently that is) with some kind of split screen mode that has all of the same content as online mode. Extra is nowhere near as good as network, after trying both.

That, and add NEW levels soon. None of this "unlocking extra mode content with different enemy spawn patterns" bullshit. NEW areas that we haven't seen yet, with new enemies. Like some jungle or city action. They told us to beat story mode first, but all that did was make network mode get old faster.

The PC version is the only version that could handle a split-screen mode, but what would be the point? PS2 can barely draw the game on the screen once, don't ask it to do it twice. 360 isn't much better.

New missions? Heck yeah, we have all the textures stored locally, then can design any kinda terrain they want with the current textures. Honestly though, do you think it will happen?

i've had PSO for 4 years and loved it but when i played PSU everything on PSO was limited and sometimes annoying(you people cannot lie to me and tell me that thing where you locked on to a target and you walked slow was not annoying espically with traps). i know what makes PSO awesome and for me that thing was increased on PSU.

it would be nice if they did like D2 did, and make a "secret level"

Graven_Vaduex

I know someone probably already said something along these lines or so, but adding in more missons like Bruces Dungeon would be nice... Or.. who is to say, with all that spass in the PPT port that they cant say, you know... add another gate that leads to Ragol, which would be cool to say do stages from PSO or even fight Faltz and what not again, though this is mearly a dream I suppose.
