About a week ago, I started logging character data for a statistical compilation of data. Today I stopped logging and compiled the results.
Here are those results. I found a total of 2390 unique characters online.
Interesting facts:
Highest level: 157, owned by *Lena*, a HUnewearl
Average level: 53.2724
Average guild card number: 340135217
Most popular class: HUmar, a whopping 32%!
Least popular class: RAcaseal, which had only 30 total!
Most popular job: Hunter, a ridiculous 58%!
Least popular job: Ranger, with 492 characters
Most popular section ID: tie between Skyly and Redria, at 340 apiece
Least popular section ID: Yellowboze, at only 169 users
Most common name: Shadow, which appeared 7 times
Most common name prefix: Dark, which appeared 46 (!) times, including 3 whose name was simply "Dark"
There are more people whose name starts with "Dark" than RAcaseals.
70% of characters are male. At least in theory - I wouldn't count some FOmars in that category http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
*Lena*, 157, is 7 levels ahead of second place EricZLink, who is 150.
Here are some nice charts that Excel made for me and Lolita posted online:

Lol, I know *Lena* Last night she was well over level 160 I think. She plays with Eric a lot too, guess thats why they're both so high hehe
Aghh! I'm part of the SKYLY/HUmar majority. It be cool if you could figure our the percentages of MAGs being used.

ah HAHA. I'm a Yellowboze RAcaseal. I guess I'm the Minority in every way. Good thing my name doesn't have Dark in it...

Wow, nice stats. Poor RAcaseal are nearly exinct.
I didn't think rangers would be the least popular job.. time to play my RAmar more!
LOL, Yellowboze RAcaseal.
Oh, did you look for how many people had names like: sephiroth, vegita, goku, and other lame overused names?

Even though Sonic Team detuned HUmars, it seems to have had little to no effect, on the popularity of the class.

interesting... was there a specific ship/block that this information was aquired? or was it from many different ones?

HUmars being the majority makes sense if you think about it. People generally like to role play themselves in their characters. The majority of PSO players are male in real life, and hopefully they're all human. Also the tendency is to go with the strongest of the classes since so many are offensive minded. Also keep in mind that many GC PSOers have never played DC PSO so they'll tend to choose the HUmar as they're first character. This is similar in pattern to what happened when DC PSO first came out. I'd be curious to know what the stats would be on the Japanese servers seeings that the Japanese tend to choose short, cute females as their characters.

I wonder how posting that information will affect future statistics...
I really, really appreciate it, Barubary. ^_^
Those are incredibly interesting.

Cool, thanks! Wow... Figured HUcasts would be higher up there... I'm a Skyly, though. O.o;; Poor Caseals! RAcaseals are about as rare as a cool person with a DBZ name, now, and even though yer percentage has HUcaseals pretty high up, I almost never see them. That kinda' sucks... Caseals rule. All that info is interesting, cool that you recorded it. Howabout you keep a running total, and update every month or so? Unless that's too much work, then I'll completely understand. But it'd be cool to keep a monthly total, then compare it month to month. I bet HUmar population will eventually shrink. Honestly, though, I think HUcasts are the easiest character to play, especially for newbies. Well, starting out, anyway... Cuz' successful trapping aint' easy, and you can't use magic... But whatever.

Hmm weird... I have one of the most common names(with a blade of course) and yet I have the least popular id. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
It would be fun to make statistics like those up.

Doesnt surprise me one bit that HUmars are the most popular They were on DC too The RAcaseals dont surprise me either they were super rare on DC also. I thought there would be alot more FOmars though

Interesting, very good stats! I had a feeling HUmar would have been the most popular. Although, I am starting to get sick of seeing HUmars everywhere.

Many different ones. I intentionally covered the blocks with the most people on them.

How did you do this?
I modified my cheat program to record the character information of everyone I saw online, including ones I "see" by pressing X while highlighting a team.
Once I had collected enough information, I wrote a program to eliminate duplicates as best as possible and spit out the raw statistics. My methods have inherent inaccuracies, primarily due to the fact that I can only get incomplete information by hitting X on a team listing. I tried to account for these problems. If you *really* want to know the specific rules I used, I can say them, but this was never intended to be a scientific study.
A little more than half the entries were duplicates and were cancelled during analysis. When I cancelled a duplicate, I used the highest level among the duplicates for statistics (the natural way to do it).
Melissa (me) appeared in the raw data about 150 times. All except one of those copies were cancelled in the same way as everyone else (leaving a single level 43 Pinkal FOmarl), except that I manually deleted the times I showed up as level 199 so as to not screw up the max level/average statistics.

Interesting, I was wondering about that. Does this mean that you get the guild card number of everyone in a team when you press X on it though? I'm just guessing the guild card number is what you used to find duplicates though, but it would make the most sense since its the only way to tell two HUcasts named Shadow apart, right?

Im a bit surprised to see that HUmars are the most popular, i figured HUnewearls would be because of their ability to use level 20 techs and still pack a decent punch while at it too. oh well i still prefer my HUnny to the HUmar

Thank you Barubary, that was a very pleasent way to use your program, at least for the rest of us. Will you be doing future studies? As you can see most of us that have replied want to see more!
