Does The Mad Beasts have 'safe spots'?

Just wondering, are these safe spots Overlord only or are they in other areas?

anytime you see those small alcoves on the side off the side of the map

There's also some in Mad Creatures. You can kinda see lines on the ground near the little alcove things...those seem to all be safe spots.
