View Full Version : PSU-PC: Gameguard Upgraded to 959

Para

This morning I couldn't sleep at all because of some drama going through in my head leaving me in a very foul mood so I decided to get on PSU early to bust up De Ragnus...

Turns out nProtect has bumped our gameguard revision to 959 now.

Interesting to note that awhile ago our Revision was at 945... then we got downgraded to 905 (much to every script kiddie and hackers' glee), upgraded to 912 yesterday.. and now.. up to 959 today.

Maybe its a sign of things to come?

Exactly... I'm on PS2, but my mom (YES, dammit...) is on PC... I don't care for GG updates, but they go a bit too far when they get that high... You can't close PSU without GG killing all the background applications. It's ridiculous like this. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

No, but she does come around my friends and embarass me sometimes (no joke)... She mostly plays with her fiancee... Back on topic, http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif basically, it's like this:

Higher number rev. = Less hacking, More stress on your PC

They should have done this, and more, months ago. Might have prevented some of the meseta boon. I would have stayed playing if they were more aggressively trying to deal with cheating back then. Its really a bit late. Probably its in response to Uni crashing, assuming that at least got their attention. Hopefully it helps, but if its merely a small annoyance to hackers and doesnt really prevent them from doing what they want, its not a valid solution to cause more slowdown for those who have remained. SEGA being late and pathetic as usual, though they at least did something.

Despite Gameguard being 'meh-ish' for stopping real hackers, it's good for keeping Script Kiddies out for a bit.

The number is basically denoting an upgraded version. Really, it slows down one's computer, and if it detects a 'certain' file on your Hard Drive, it won't allow you to continue.

one person "whine"ing doesnt make it a whine-fest. and he wasnt whineing, just stating facts that i wanted to know. thanks guys, i understand now. im always seeing people talking about GG and i wonder. its just another reason games should stick to console >.< pc's are too picky

turbo? how is that helpful?

IIRC, Turbo Controllers have a "Macro" feature which allow you to put in a command and have it be used in one push.

I think you could for (for the sake of learning) but in that infamous Konami code ( ^ ^ v v < > < > B A Start ) <- I think that's it. Anyways, I think you can set that to one button, so when you pop it in Macro mode and hit like "B" (assuming you have that button mapped to B), it'd put in that entire set of buttons with just the push of that one.

I've never used it, but I think that's how it works. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

I may have to try and get my mum playing PSU too. But then, I'd never get the computer so I could play http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Dosn't seem to be stressing my PC at all, which is pretty cool. I remember the update before the rollback they did was making my framerate stutter every 5 seconds and crashing to desktop for no reason. I'm also using a different operating system and video card driver now too, so http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif

Off topic: Is your screename Therapist, or TheRapist?

Just wondering. >_>

Even if gameguard updates, isn't it still easily bypassable?

They're basically asking the Hackers to hack them harder by preventing them with a bigger challenge, imo.

That's the joke, you can't tell http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I wonder how bad GG will make it run on my laptop now, considering how badly it played before.

turbo also helps when gun users are sick of jamming down b and just want to hold it down so turn on the turbo switch and hold.
