What are you trying to accomplish here?

Tricky.

The first thing is to find the right URL. I've never used ImageShack, myself, but getting the location of the image from its display on the page you liked seems to work. ImageShack may provide the BBCode for you upon uploading (as many similar services do), which I would reccomend taking advantage of.

In any case, the "moving" is a property of the image, not so much a trick accomplished on the forum. Simply enough it's an animated gif. You can use the IMG tags to display your images, by placing the closing IMG tag, [/img], after the URL, and the opening tag, [img] before the URL. You can use the Reply With Quote button on this post for an example.

Plus there is that nifty 'Post preview option'.

Granted it wont increase your post count, or get your name out there. But it will let you see if your BB code is working... which is what you're trying to do, right?

Click the 'Post Reply' button in a topic. It looks like this http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/reply-dark.jpg

Then type your post attempt, and click the 'Preview' button at the bottom of the page. It's right in between 'Submit' and 'Cancel Post'.

If you really really need to have it effect something permenantly on the fourm with every attempt you make, you can always just PM yourself. Keeps things nice and tidy for the people who already know how to post images.

Frostheart:

The first thing you need to understand, is that you're working with two pictures here, not one. The one you're interested in is a full-sized, animated gif. The one you've been getting the URL for is what we call a "thumbnail". A Thumbnail is a scaled down version of another picture, used for previewing larger pictures, that, supposedly, would take up too much space on the page, and take too long to download in full. They were originally developed so that a whole gallery of images could be displayed on a single page. Furthermore, it appears that the BBcode that Imageshack is supplying you with is a neat package of the thumbnail and a webpage displaying the full image.

So here's what you do to get the URL for the full image:

Follow the link that Imageshack supplied for the BBcode on the picture you've been posting. You can do this by copy and pasting the BBcode into a reply window and pressing the Preview button that geewj described for you, and then clicking on the picture. It will open in a new window.

Now you will see the full-size version of the picture. Right-click on it, and a menu will appear. At the bottom of the menu, you will see an option that reads, "Properties". Click there.

A little window will appear, listing various information about the picture. Among this information, you will find a URL. In the specific case of the image you are trying to post, it will look like this:

http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/3207/feathertailbannerql7.gif

Use your mouse to highlight the URL on the properties page. Copy it by pressing Ctrl+C, and paste it in the reply box where you are typing your post, by clicking on the reply box and pressing Ctrl+V.

Now you have the right URL. The next thing is to work out the BBcode you need.

There are two tags you will need to use to add an image to a post. The first is and it is placed directly in front of the URL of the image, with no space between them. The second tag is and it is placed on the otherside of the URL of the image. When you hit the "Submit" button, this will cause that URL to be displayed as an image in your post. The BBcode in question will look like this:

http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/3207/feathertailbannerql7.gif

It is a convention in BBcode that to end a command, you enter the same command between brackets [] with a slash / in front of it. So can be read as "Start image URL" and can be read as "End image URL". Just the same, and can be read as "Start bold text" and "End bold text", and , "Start italic text" and "End italic text", and so on.

The basic point of the exercise is to find the correct URL for the image you want to post, and place it between and . Press the Preview button to see if it worked, and if the image you see is not the image you intended, then unless you are otherwise informed, you have used the wrong URL. Look for other ways to get the URL you want. Typically, the simplest method is to just get the specific image displayed in your web browser window, right-click on it, select properties, and copy it from there. Some web browsers, when you right-click on an image, provide an option that will say something to the effect of, "Copy image location", and in such an event, you may simply click that instead of opening the Properties window. Clicking that will copy the URL of the image to your clipboard, so that you can paste it elsewhere.

Now try it again.

You're getting closer, but you appear to have gotten the URL from the wrong place. Go to this (http://img375.imageshack.us/my.php?image=squirrelpawbannercu5.gif) page, and right-click on the image and get the correct URL from the Properties menu. Remember, when the image is part of a page, such as what you see there (deceptively, the filename for that page ends in the .php rather than the .gif; everything beyond the ? is an argument that the .php file uses to generates that page), copying the URL straight out of the address bar will not work. It was a good guess, though, I'll give you that.

Also, please take advantage of the Edit button ( http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/edit.gif ) found underneath your posts; this will prevent you from having to post multiple times consecutively. We prefer that you use the Edit button instead of posting again when the last post in the thread is your own.

Make sure that it is the specific picture that you want to post, not just the thumbnail. The Pikachu picture worked because it wasn't a thumbnail that you got the URL from. Remember that the thumbnail and the actual picture are two different files sitting on a server, and you'll have to find the full size image to get the URL from.

This is hardly site related, and entirely something else that has a definite place (testing sigs and images). Hence, this shall go where it belongs.
