Is there a way to switch the music in PSU with music that you want to play in it for the PC ver.? (if this has anything to do with hacking, i'm totally sorry)

Perhaps you could turn the music volume (in game) down to 0 and play something in the background? Not sure if that would work but I'd give it a try.

Well I know one cheap way turn of your computer's volume and insert a CD/Cassette/MP3 player into your stereo.

EDIT: Then again any videogame's music will get annoying except Virtural-On for Dreamcast best soundtrack ever!

it certainly does work. just fire up winamp and you're set.

It's not really the same, though. The music from videogames adds a certain atmosphere to the area. Having new music adds new atmosphere. Just having a song or group of songs playing may subtract from atmosphere in this case. But really, when playing with no music give a better gaming experience than having the in game music, nothing can hurt.

I always play with the PSU music off (volume 0) and then just fire up something else in the background. As far as atmosphere, this is kinda true, but when the music is as mediocre as some of the PSU tracks the atmosphere can only get better. Maybe playing (vastly superior IMO) PSO music might improve the experience.

Back on BB I had a friend of mine encode "Express Love" which I used as lobby music, lol

What he did was encode it into the correct file type, then i saved it as the name of the original lobby music file, but KEPT the original (saved as lobbyoriginal) just in case i wanted the original music again

but im not sure if you can do it with PSU and you also need the right program to encode the music you want

I looked in the folders for PSU (yes, the PC version) and didn't see anything that looked like music files, so I'm not sure if that's reasonably possible even.

Hey, hey hey, Do not EVER complain.

If you have ever heard the Caves music....well then PSU's music sounds like a symphony.

Personally, I usually play some DragonForce in the background with the entire sound system muted, but that's me.

Good man.

I just keep the volume off, or with very low sound (2 is usually alright), and leave iTunes running in the background on shuffle. Works like a charm. No hacks involved.

I don't know what all the hate is on the PSU version, sure it's not "Ambient" enough for you, so what? It doesn't have to be ambient to be good XD

Part of the problem is that even if you could locate the music file you wanted to replace and could convert it to a .adx as all of the music and audio files are, there's no way you could add the file corruption that sega put in to the file to make it play right.

I wouldn't know what the music sounds like, to be honest. I just have listened the stuff I own in my library since day 1. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I have about 15 cd'S of all the Phantasy Star music soundtracks from the first all the way to PSU burned on the 360 hd so I just set those to random and bam! Talk about atmosphere.

Can't do that in PSU. First of all, you'd never find the correct file (have you looked at the file names?), and, even if you did find, GameGuard would surely force you to redownload the correct file when you start the game.

when i played PSO offline, the music in Caves would put me to sleep, even when I was wide awake and not even remotely tired.

I started listening to the Album "Down With the Sickness" from Disturbed. Cave actually became *fun* for me to play through then! Seriously! ^_^

Pics or it didn't happen.

The music sounds fine to me! Though I have a few favorites (like Mizuraki C.D. and Galenigare) the rest of them are all right. But yes, best option would be to just shut the music off and play your own. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif Thank goodness they have such options - sometimes hearing sound effects can get annoying.

I've had the music off from day one, catching snippets here and there out of curiosity. Ah! That's what I'll do. I'm going through all the areas to check out the music! Who's with me?! Uni 2, Ula is my character, starting at Moatoob!

COME ON LET'S HEAR TERRIBLE!

Dragonforce? The game isn't that fast. Maybe with some Sonic, but damn. I play Hip-Hop.

Yay for hip hop! De La Ragen? Stakes is high with De La Ragen.

Heh when I saw that I thought "De La Soul". Good stuff ^_^

I have the song "Much More" on the link in my sig.

Here's what I do.

Turn off in-game music (it improves preformance anyhow).

Fire up Nintendo DS w/ Phantasy Star Collection in it.

Jam out to some classic 8 & 16 bit tunes while playing PSU. Play PSIV on the PC via emulator and use it's jukebox/music test to select the tunes I want. Use Music Match to play PSO tunes on ocassion.

I don't mind most of PSU's music (Madness the Machine Sparx is probably my favourite (Adahna/Magas theme) ), but there is some more boring music I admit. Personally, I hate the Endrum Remnants music..

Most of the time I just use my own music. Dragonforce, Iron Maiden, etc. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

there's nothing wrong with the music. i listen to it sometimes when im soloing. when im in a party i shut it off to reduce lag. and im on ps2, so with my laptop next to me its very easy to have a playlist up and change songs to suit the mood. and besides, when im fighting its non-stop, so listening to the 2 Black Mages albums works just fine ^.^ that music makes PSU shine

I'm not bothered by the music. I usually set the valume options low when I want to hear people's voices through my speakers sometimes or I just go to my HD and listen to some Hip Hop..

Sega should start outsourcing its music creation.

There is not a single song in PSU I care for, and they all loop so horribly quickly... over, and over, and over, and over again.

Spending 10 minutes on a mission soloing feels like half an hour, because of the music. :/

If anyone ever finds the files where the music is located, we should try tampering with them, just to see if GameGuard will notice or not. Good luck finding those files, though.

Sometimes I play psu to the Panzer Dragoon OST. The tone gives the game an entirely different experience.

That was a good one.
I was always partial to the music in Simon's Quest, myself....
