It's official GC has been fried by the great PSO. This happened 4 times with me on Sega Dreamcast. Yes, I had to buy 4 new dreamcasts each time. Well today I was playing and then it was loading and then BOOM the screen went black and it said:
"An error has occurred.
Turn the power OFF and check the Nintendo GameCube Instruction Booklet for further instructions."
Yes this means you have to get it repaired. It cost more money getting it repaired then it will to get a new system!!!! I'm just going to go buy a Platinum Gamecube tommorow, I mean it's not like I could play PSO tonight with the maintanence! Hey its better getting it tommorow then waiting a month or two for my old one to get fixed lol.

Say what?! Dude, how long do you leave your systems on? If you leave the thing on too long it'll overheat. Do it repeatedly and you'll break it, as you may already know. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I got that message when starting the web browser. But four Dreamcasts?! Do you ever take a break?

Doesn't that mean you had to start over 4 times?

Eh? I got that message once. I rebooted it and everything was fine. Read between the lines, man. Do you buy a new computer everytime you get a blue screen?

I've never even seen a console system break...
Are you storing yours in your oven or something?
Since you have had so many systems break, I am guessing your doing something to it.
Most likely keeping it in a cramped area so the fans can't circulate cool air in and your overheating it.
Theres nothing else that would make so many systems randomly die.

I had three dreamcast, my first one broke, sent my second one to sega give me a new dreamcast. Anyways I still got my first dreamcast, the systems works but the plug or somewhere on the dreamcast doesn't work.
Well I got 2 gamecube, the jet black and the blue, purple one, I got 2 a/c adapters so if one is over heated, I'll use my other gcn.

Uh. I get that message sorta often. Never when anything important is happening. Usually when joining a lobby or a game. I have two gamecubes. The one that does that, I bought for cheaper because it was a refurbished one.

That shouldn't happen unless you duct tape the ventilation dealies shut. I sense fowl play...

My GC has frozen twice and let out this horrible buzzing noise. Once in Metroid, and the other PSO. I powered off, sat back and prayed for 5 minutes, turned it on and everything was fine. Thankfully.

It works OK now but it scared the $hit outta me. Talked to my dad on the phone about it (he's an electrician), he said static probably built up over a period of time.

Not to worry. The same thing happened to me and I called Nintendo.
They told me to unplug everything (even the power cord) then plug in the power cord only and boot it up. Then plugin things one by one to see if anything got fried. I did tgat and it worked. The tech told me that the gamecube sets some failsafe if it detects something that it doesn't like.
On the other hand, my friend's just died completely. If you are not a bandwagon jumper like I was, it is still under warranty. Give Nintedo a call, they will replace it.

Same thing happened to me once when I went to buy an hl. Called Nintendo and the only thing the ysuggested to me was to clean the disc. I did and everything has been fine and dandy except for one freeze o_O

one day my old GC simply refused to switch on...
then i realised that the transformer was stuck behind my radiator and must have overheated but the nintendo customer services(UK) were very efficient when it came to dealing with me. all it took was one phonecall, i sent the plug/transformer off and 3 days later i was playing again http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif !
i guess now that im using an imported US system im stuck right? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_cry.gif oh well... at least i have resident evil 0 months before any of my friends http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Heh, I got the same message a couple days ago, turns out my GC PSO disc had finger prints on it, wiped it clean and never got the message again. Just make sure your game is clean, your memory card is all the way in, and that you dont abuse your Gamecube, show that little box some love and turn it off for a few hours.

Yikes. And definitely make sure that BOTH sides of the GCN aren't blocked and have plenty of room to "breathe". The right side (I believe) is the air intake, and left side is the fan. Had mine for almost a year and no problems.
Dreamcast however was ANOTHER story altogether. Went through two of them, sadly. The second time I thought it would be PSOv2's HORRIBLE loading (us V2 people all know about the GD-ROM craziness with the character and music data on opposite sides of the disk, ugh) that would do it in, but somehow my controller ports suddenly died one day. I'm hoping it'll bring itself back to life one day and work miraculously, but... I think it's dead. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

THeres a fix for the broken controler ports somewhere on the sega.com/hardware boards, it involves opening up your DC and removing the controler bard, the replacing a blue resistor with another identical component.

Ok guys let me just give you guys the situation I'm in. Last week my friend and I decided that this coming saturday (2 days from now) we were going to CompUSA (1 hour drive) to get this energy drink called Bawls. I've heard about it and wanted to get it for a long time. Well my PC headset broke so I can't really play Counterstrike anymore. So we decided this Saturday we would get a headset for the comp and some energy drinks. That total is going to be about $50.00. Well now my GC breaks. It's $150.00 to buy a new one. I have no problem with that but now I have to wait super long considering there is about a foot of snow on the ground (I live in northern NJ). OH JOY!

Turn the power OFF and check the Nintendo GameCube Instruction Booklet for further instructions
Happened to me one day playing online... all i did was turn it off and start it back up nothin wrong with my GC.. runs clearer than ever
Don't worry Tiger, you're not the only one. My first cube crapped out on me over the Thanksgiving holiday. I've been getting that same exact error message for quite some time now, but it usually ran just fine after I restarted the system. Last weekend my cube decided that it was done. Won't read anymore disks at all.
I went out and got a new one the same night. Couldn't stand a night without PSO heheh. So far so good.
If you're low on funds and passed the one year warranty, you can always go with that $75 replacement policy. It takes 4-5 days for them to send back a replacement... but I would think it's refurbished.

It's happened once last night, and three times today. It's just about over lol

Sorry to take things offtopic. And sorry about the GCN, Tiger. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif Good thing it's the cheapest console out of the 3.

What the hell are you guys doing to your Gamecubes....keep both sides well ventilated, dont drop the system on a regular basis, keep the system plugged into a reliable power source, such as surge protector's, make sure your disc is clean, and that the memory card is properly inserted. This is gonna seem like an insult but sorry but it's true, my seven yr old nephew owns a Gamecube, plays games on it frequently, and even spilt a lil' kool-aid on it, still works and he has had it since 2 weeks after the Cubes release. I play PSO on it and ive gotten that error message once, the disc had fingerprints. Well not to say shame on yourself, and i think it's cool you play Counter-Strike, Tiger, but if a 7 yr old can take care of a Gamecube why cant anyone over that age! Well I guess i can accept the fact that the Gamecube you guys got was defective. But other than that... My 2 cents, Peace.

My NES and Genesis work as good as ever (and are still played on a regular basis).
I've never had a broken video game system, and that's probably because of the fact that I know how to maintain my systems to insure proper functioning... Without even opening them up!
First off, for every hour that your system is running, you should give it at least 15 minutes for a break (to cool down, mainly).
Second, always ensure proper ventilation for the system. This means make sure the vents are not blocked and there is nothing in them. Proper ventilation is key to ensure a system's survival, for if there were no passages for all that heat to flow out of, that thing's processor would completely melt (melt as in liquid silicon and metal fused to the motherboard) in a matter of seconds (yes, I have tested it, CPUs can melt in about 5-10 seconds by the heat they produce).

I had my gamecube for like 2 weeks and it broke down. For some reason it kept telling me to insert disk when I had already done that. Anyway, I send it in to Nintendo, and it was like 4 days later I got it back and running. It's better to call up tech support and get help. It's probably alot cheaper to repair your system than to buy a whole new one. Seriously, if it's problematic just call them up.
