View Full Version : PSU-XBox 360: How is the Xbox 360 Community?

MrPOW
Mar 5, 2007, 12:17 PM
I put thousands of hours into PSO on Gamecube before but I'm just now making it over to PSU. My PS2 broke right before it came out and my PC sucks (gaming wise) so those weren't really an option. So I pretty much quarantined myself from any PSU-related info during this time. Trust me, I wanted the game BAD, and reading about people who were playing it didn't make me feel any better.

Fast foward to now. Last week I was finally able to afford to get a video card for my PC and get PSU. However after doing a little research on forums it seems that the PC/PS2 version is suffering from cheating and the community (VERY much to my suprise) is actually bigger on Xbox 360. So after mulling it over I have ordered an Xbox 360 off of Amazon.com. It'll be here Wednesday. So here I am, literally biting my fingernails off in anticipation. My g/f is supposed to get me the game for my birthday which isn't until next Monday, so I'm not sure when I'll get the game. I will be playing the XBL demo until that time though.

So PSOW...how is the Xbox 360 PSU community? Did I make the right choice? Is there any cheating at all? How active is the comminity? Did I wait too long to start? What advantages/disadvantages does the 360 version have over the others? Oh, and does anyone know if the game runs at 60fps on the 360 (seems like ti should)? Thanks!!!

We're great.
Yes.
An exceedingly small amount, if any.
Very.
Not at all.
Your other questions answer this, oh and HDTV http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif.

You do realize you opened another pandoras box (lol, Dark Falz) of flame warring, right?

With that in mind, you've already set your sites on the 360 version pretty much, I'd say stick with it.

I didn't mean to start a flame war, I'm just looking for some info. And yeah, I have already settled on the 360 version. Now that I know I'm about to get it I'm just really excited and want to get an idea of what I'm in store for community-wise.

Why would this start a flame war anyway? I mean I really just want to know what 360 players think.

As a community, the 360 PSOWers are becoming a tight knit bunch. With Live, we're able to communicate easily and bounce around between games easily.

As for the flame war, it isn't what 360 users think, it's what PC/PS2 users think.

CyarVictor

It's a pretty active platform. Uni1-2 a full pretty much everyday, even 3 gets 3-4 stars full. Also people flock to other unis like 29(I'm usually there with my parties), uni15, and uni16. Just have to get past some of the idiots and lazy players.

Better not become a flame war since this was a topic about the 360 and not which platform, even then: Play with what you want to play on. They are all the same damn game.

Anyway, we do have an active environment on PSU.

MrPOW
Mar 5, 2007, 12:35 PM
So I take it PC/PS2 players are the majority in the PSOW forums? Ah well, I don't care what they think in this thread anyway. Like I said I'm just looking for what people who have been playing the 360 version think. The dwindling community and cheating is what drove me from PSO on the Cube. The whole little-to-no-cheating thing, if true, was really the dealbreaker for me. I just wanted to make sure that there are plenty of people to play with as well.

Are the US/JP/EU 360 PSU servers all linked?

Just a fair warning when on Uni1-2: Watch out for scammers(they usually spam 'deals' on sonics) and the slow down when in crowds of people usually infront of Dagora City Guardians and 4th Floor of the Colony. I hope you enjoy the game when you have it http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif.

Rather nice. We have a large amount of people on all hours of the day from North America, Europe, and Japan. There is a sizeable amount of content...certainly much more than what the demo offers with updates every week to bi-weekly. There are no hacks/cheats to be regularly found as MS is quick to ban Xbox Live accounts...arguably much worse than simply having an account banned for a single game. Not entirely sure what the framerate is on 360, although it seems to run fine at 1080i with minimal slowdown.

If and when you do get online with tha 360....drop me a line. Im always down for getting ppl up to speed and theres alot of us from PSO-W usually available to help...

For the first quote, that was a joke in response to omega's post. I'll be sure to repress my sense of humor in your presence, my apologies.

For the second, it's the honest truth. Seeing as this topic has absolutely nothing to do with PC/PS2 users, this discussion on the state of the 360 community, would remain 100% flame war free unless a PC/PS2 user came in and started something.

The 360 community is great. Live lets us migrate from game to game. We just have to get Shadow to buy Gears or MayLee to get PDZ and we'll have TWO games everyone owns XD.

This isn't a DoA forum?? Hmm...led astray again!

I will eventually get a new headset, but I do enjoy typing better! Anyhow, I think this topic has been derailed enough. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif Oh and I didn't answer the question.

- The community is (for the most part) great.
- Only you can answer that question, however, I enjoy the 360 version.
- Not AFAIK, the only report of cheating that I'm aware of was a photoshopped image.
- There are usually at least 2 full universes daily.
- No, PSU is also easy enough to solo a bit if you can't find many parties.
- The advantages is simply little to no cheating, voice chat/Xbox live features, and (to some) a stable economy. The disadvantages are pretty much the reverse of the advantages...no cheating means making money isn't as easy as it is on the PC/PS2 servers and also the Xbox has a bit of slowdown that (I would guess) is not a problem on a good PC.
- I'm not sure on this one...

We need to wait a little longer on some of the minor fixes, like wacky AI (points at GH 450) and clothing glitches (none were harmful. It simply allowed you to equip clothing combinations that normally wouldn't work.)

Will do. I'm getting my 360 in the mail tomorrow but I just found out I won't be getting PSu until Friday. And then Friday, Saturday and Sunday I have to go out of town with my girlfriend... So it will probably be Monday or so before I actually get online http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

When I get it tomorrow I'll probably d/l the demo and play that until Friday. What all is unlocked? Also I just found out that voice-chat doesn't work in lobbies so I'm trying to find a cheap usb keyboard on Newwegg.com, but it'll be a few weeks before i can get it. How big of an issue will that be for me, as far as joining parties? Can I just jump into games uninvited?

Sychosis
Mar 6, 2007, 11:37 AM
Yeah you can jump into public games uninvited pretty easily. As long as you area decent level for the particular mission you are attempting. You might get removed from the party if you jump in after just barely making the requirements.

One word of advice though--do not let the demo users give you the wrong impression of the community. One of the beauties of paying to play is the removal of your general asshats.

There are a bunch of us from the NTSC-UK forums that play quite regularly and have a small community going on this.

If you see either me, Re-l Kano, Elaniel, Dogsout or Melenko, say Hi.

There's a surprisingly good and popular community on the 360 version.

Has there been any talk of organizing an event for PSOW members on 360? I want to meet some people online so I can actually have people in my friends list that try to play the game instead of PL'ing people all the time.

There have been a few already.

I'll send you a FR and hopefully we can meet up and get you partying with some PSOWers.
