From PhantasyStarUniverse.com
I heard PC and Playstation 2 subscribers have the option to choose subscription types, what's up with that?(2-16)
You heard right, PC and PlayStation 2 users have the option of choosing between two different subscription types when purchasing a Guardians License. Be sure to pick the option that is right for you!

$9.99 per month recurring option, your account will be charged every 30 days. First time subscribers will be gifted with an additional 2 weeks free - that's 45 more days until you are billed again!

A one time charge of $49.99 for 180 days. At the end of the 180 day period, you'll need to head back and purchase another subscription. First time subscribers will be gifted 30 days up front - that's 210 days of Phantasy Star Universe!

Now... 9.99 divided by 30 days.. that's 33 cents a day. If you include the 15 days free, its 9.99 divided by 45... that's 22 cents per day.

However look at this way... 49.99 divided by 180 days equals 28 cents! You save 5 cents a day. But with the 30 day bonus, you only pay 24 cents. You save 4 cents a day and 9 cents in the long run. To compare to the 9.99 package... 49.99 divided by (210 divided by 30) equals 7.14 per month. You save about 3 bucks a month over a period of 7 months. Even then, 49.99 divided by (180 divided by 30) equals 8.33 per month, you still save money.

Now my curiousity... those people are still playing... but yet paying the more expensive option... why? =/ Its been about 4 months+ already and 9.99 times 4 equals 39.96... for 10 bucks more... you would've saved money >_>

The reason people pay the monthly fee (although higher) is because at any given time they could stop paying within a month. If you pay the 180 day period and you stop playing after the first month then you will in the end pay more than the monthly fee.

If you know you are going to stay and play for a while then it may make more sense to pay the 180 day suscription fee.

Well the plus side is that you don't need to deal with the renewal bs.

Indeed, rounding up 10 bucks is a lot easier than 50. Why? Because psycologically gamers are prepped to spend more or less than an extra $10-$15 a month, but $50 seems like a large amount('Why not just buy a new game?' is the usual thought process, I believe), even stretched over a few months.

Plus, for those who depend on parents for supporting their gaming habits, borrowing $10 is a lot easier for almost the same reasons.

I went with the montly option because I was shit-broke when I bought the game and had to scrape enough change together to deposit in my checking account just to pay for that first month. Since then, I get spurts of thinking of quitting and a four month investment would only tie me to that.

And it's ten bucks. Meh.

I got the 6 month one the first time I got the game. I like no muss no fuss.

I go with the $9.99 option right now because I'm currently out of a job and piss poor broke. Once I start another one(which should be soon) and retain a good cash flow I'll happily dish out the $49.99 for 6 months.

another thing you forgot is that the 180day one you also get free period each time you renew. with the 1 month one you only get it once.

also every time you charge something it costs money to charge...not just the price of the item your buying but an actual charge for charging.

so overall the longer period one is far more of a deal than most realize ^.^
