PSOW, explain this clusterfuck.

Why is it that the Wii Classic controller, which is designed with exactly the same buttons as a GameCube controller, is compatible with Wii games, VC games... But NOT the GameCube games?

...I mean... Christ, how fucking stupid is that?

Shit, that's a good question...

One thing I did notice is that when you do play a GC game on the Wii, the Wii Remote cannot be used at all. It's as if it completely becomes a GC (oh wait http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif ), which also means that it is virtually impossible to return to the Wii Menu...

Hopefully, Nintendo will release a patch/update that will allow you to return to the Wii Menu once you're done with GC games...

...Hopefully...

Yeah, the not being able to return to the Wii menu kind of bugged me when I was going through Ocarina of Time for the GC. Less than two weeks later, Ninetendo released Ocarina on the fricking virtual console, which kind of left me miffed, as I'd just went through it.

Actually. Perhaps I misinterpreted the OP.

Why would cube games (assumed 2001~2006) be designed with a controller released in 2006/7?

if anything, common sense tells us that the classic controller was intended to function with the virtual console's games.

Yeah, but just think about it:

I have an A button, a B button, an X button, a Y button, a pair of Z buttons, a pair of shoulder triggers, a Start button, a Select button, a D-Pad, and even a pair of analog sticks, one of which could very well be used as a C-stick.

It has everything needed to properly operate a GameCube game... but it doesn't work.

... Yeah. It works buttonwise.

Well. The way I'm thinking about it is that you're plugging [deviceA] into the .ext port of the wii remote, and expecting the same functions as [deviceB] that normally plugs directly into the wii. My mind thinks ins strange ways. shutup. <_<

And judging from Nintendo's love for proprietary ports, everything must work differently.
