Xbox Demo

Quick question, my friend has the Xbox 360 Demo of PSU, and I have the game itself, does this mean we cant meet up online? do the Demo users have different servers? we tried meeting up but it didnt work, I just wanted to find out if theres a way we can meet up without me downloading the Demo.
