View Full Version : So... on ps2/pc how many ppl = 1 star?

So, I'm recently back to PSU.

When I left, Uni1 usually had 4 or 5 stars, Uni2 usually had 2 or 3 stars, and a few others would have 1 star, and the rest empty stars. That was last fall.

Now, the last two nights, Uni2 has three stars and the rest are empty stars.

So, obviously, less people are playing.

But I am wondering: while I was gone all these months, did you all figure out how people = 1 star?

Just wondering.

Apparently it is 200 people per star.

Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus.

also, why did everyone switch from uni 1 to uni2 . I know there wasa problem with uni 1 when i tried to get on a few months ago, but why didn't everyone go backto uni 1? And I really hope the expansion spurs a renewed interest in PSU. like 600-800 people at peak is nothing!

I wonder what the max number of people on PSU servers has been. (over all consoles combined)

Surely it's over nine thousand!

I think that during the absolute PEAK of PSO (Dreamcast, version 1, when it was free and all servers/regions where connected) there were over 100,000 registered players. It was something like 70,000 in Japan, 30,000 in North America, and 10,000 or so from Europe. I don't have a source, I just remember reading that 'back in the day.'

Its never been as big since then, but of course its been pay-to-play since v2 on DC.

So basically, on a weeknight, there's around 600-1000 people on pc/ps2 playing PSU.

I'm guessing there's more on weekends/holidays and right after major updates?

Only 10,000 from Europe? Crikey. I always thought it was way higher than that.

Actually you need to include the half star on every other universe. There could easily be several hundred or even a thousand other people spread through out the 17 other universes on the PC/PS2 version.

Saphion, it might have been more, I'm just going by memory.

Oh, and thanks RedX and Sychosis for the info.

That's a good point. As I've cruised through the Linear Line on various empty-star servers I've seen groups of people on each one. They certainly weren't empty, that's for sure. So, yeah, good point!

I've actually seen an empty star before. Right before maintanance, I was going back to my room and I noticed that Uni. 5 didn't have the half star next to it. That means that there's something less than the half star we always see.

Theres are 17 Unis on PC/PS2? ...pardon my ignorance, im on 360. My third one too! I was a victim of my second ring of death yesterday.

A half star could also mean 1 person.

PMB960
Mar 28, 2007, 07:08 PM
If 1* is 200 people 1/2* probably means atleast 50 people. That would mean there would be around 10 random full parties scattered on each universe which isn't very hard to believe. There are 18 universes on PC/PS2.

Well, If you mean the number of accounts ( not just ppl online at once) of all the consules combined...

I don't know about JP and 360, But on the PS2/PC servers, there are about 35,000 active accounts. (which means about only 2% of the PS2/PC population is online at a time .__.)

I wonder what the total population would be if the servers were cobined?

35,000 active accounts?

I don't see how that is possible.

I highly doubt the 35,000 active account number.

My guesstimate from peak hours and... well pretty much an over all guess... I would say somewhere along the lines of half that. 17,000 seems pretty realistic in my opinion for the US PC/PS2 servers. And honestly, that feels like it is being stretched. There are seldom more then ~2,000 people on at any given time, maybe up to ~5,000 on weekends.

There isn't any real way to get numbers, aside from Sega of America releasing them... which I doubt is going to happen.

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif Ashame we can't do the same thing as FF XI and track Auction House transactions to get a pretty close guess for how many total players there are.

What's the highest serial no. you have ever seen? That might be a guide of how many registered accounts there are.

Seeing as we have no definite starting serial number, and there are people who have recreated their characters countless times (which takes that first number out of circulation)... not to mention there is no way to see who was the last character created.

Yeah, this idea is just made of fail.

lolno

The numbers start at 10000000 (or however many digits there are) for the JP PC/PS2 server, 20000000 for the US PC/PS2, and 30000000 for the 360 server.

Numbers are unique to your account, not your character. Deleting a character does not get you a new number. All four characters on your account share the same ID number.

EDIT: At the very most, I'd say there are 800-1200 people on at any given time, and usually more in the 600-800 range, if not even fewer. Personally, I do not mind in the least. Actually, I wouldn't mind an even smaller community (like that of PSOBB, 150-300), assuming it meant a tighter sense of community.

They really should remove some of the universes :/ Maybe down to 10 or something, 17 is too much and such a weird number.

first part ok
second part pretty sure you are wrong

i remade my char early on((ie first week the game was out))and the number did change between the two. i will check again tomorrow when i get on cause i was going to recreate one of my chars anyways. so i will repost afterward to confirm or refute my own statement

Hes right, the numbers don't change. The simplest way to show this is the fact that the numbers are linked to your card. You only need 1 card for each person, because the numbers never change, even if they change characters.

I wish Sega had allowed us to push the Tab key like in Blue Burst to figure out how many people are on a server as well as # of parties. That was a really cool feature.

That's true, I've seen it happen a couple of times. But I think half a star can mean anything less than 200 people. I could be wrong, but as soon as I went into the uni with no star, there was an empty star. As soon as I got back into uni 2, the star was completely gone =/

Sychosis
Mar 29, 2007, 07:08 AM
A full star isn't always 200 people. Since you can get into Uni 1 when it has 5 full stars, it obviously doesn't mean the server is completely full all the time. I'd say anywhere from 180-200 people per full star.

Meaning a full Uni 1 could have anywhere from 980-1000 people.

When I see a universe with no star, it makes me sad. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif So I go and solo in that universe, and there's an empty star again. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

There is over 35,000 registered accounts. This doesn't equate to 35,000 active accounts. That's just some people in denial telling you that to make it seem like we have a shitload of ACTIVE players.

1 star is probably about 50 people tops. Seriously.

The amount of people quitting has died down a bit so our population has stabelized.

Sychosis
Mar 29, 2007, 07:32 AM
Meh, it's just that if 2% of the population plays during peak, 360 would have about 175,000 registered accounts, we're no where near that. That math just didn't add up.

Well, anyway... I was just wondering. Thanks for all the info and opinions.

It seems like plenty of people are playing. I don't even go to Uni2, I just log in and play. And wherever I go I see people. Not MOBS of people, but there are people in Cylez City (players, not the npc ghosts, lol) no matter which Uni the game puts me in.

So, I'm not worried about it. I was just wondering.
