That's just plain awesome. They should work on a co-lab.

I just went from In My Life spoken by Sean Conery to King of Rock by Run DMC. Not as crazy, but it's still awesome. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Ecclecticism is no sin.

The only thing better than playing two extaordinarily dissimilar artists one after the other is playing them at the same time.

Being eclectic is one thing. Being wishy washy is another. So is claiming to like everything, which just makes you too easily pleased, and therefore a pushover.

Also, listening to any two songs at the same time? Seriously, sit there and think about how dumb that concept sounds. Maybe that's not what you meant, but if not, then you should have worded it better.

I wouldn't say that. Having an open mind helps you expand your horizons. If you don't experiment with different types of genres you may never find out what you REALLY like. For the longest time I was heavily into rap and RnB, but after listening to other things I've expanded somewhat. (However there are still some genres I will not listen to...I'm looking at you country!)

Aren't they the ones who did the OP for Rozen Maiden ?
Mitsumune Shinkichi - Bara no jubai, most epicest battle music, ever.

Anyways, I need to be more diverse in my musics, I go from Hip Hop to the occasional anime/game soundtrack.

I was always curious. Ask anybody what they like, and it's often
"Oh, I like all music. Except rap and country"
or "Ehh, mostly rock, some alternative. Just not country."
or "jazz, classical, some altrock, but not country"

... people can like jazz, blues, but not country? What makes it so different? And someone define "country" as a genre for me. plzkthx

I like what I like and don't bind myself to genres. Just because I like songs that are scattered genres doesn't mean that I'd be too easily pleased since there's plenty of songs I do not like, even of genres I 'prefer'.

I'm also not sure how two songs at the same time would be a dumb concept. Naturally it depends on the songs but you could claim limiting yourself to a single strand at a time all the time arbritarily would be narrow-minded just as easily. Depending, you could find interesting combinations to form a sound experience that would not only be unique to your collection, but allow you to experiment on your own with your tastes in mind.

While it may not be as imaginative as creating original music from scratch to call your own, I don't see how there'd be anything bad or offensive about it. Big deal.

Country is basically southern pop/rock with a country accent and references to rural southern culture.

I just don't dig it.

Re: "Two songs at once" Mashups, baby. They're like aural collage, and when they're inspired, they're fantastic. True, they're not for everyone, especially if you can't get past the fact that mashups sound "wrong" compared to the original parts. Some people would argue otherwise, but I believe creating a complex, successful mashup requires talent--maybe not the same kind of talent it takes to compose or perform a completely "original" piece, but definite talent nonetheless.

Re: Country I need someone to rec me some good stuff, because I don't even know where to start listening. I think I can find something I like from every genre--not the same thing as "liking everything"--if I search long enough. And I don't think that's a bad thing at all. So anyone who digs country, I need your help.

As ast has explained, it's more like the tracks laid on top of each other. Not listening to two different sound sources, one in each ear. Which yeah, would be a lot more unusual.

Besides, who died and made you king of how people can like music?

I'm just pointing out the obvious. Someone could say they enjoyed the taste of feces, and you'd say I was wrong for telling them that it's dumb, not to mention gross and fucked up.

Edit: You can call your dumb concept music, but that doesn't make it so. I could digitally blend images of a Dali painting with images of the Mona Lisa and call it art, by your logic. I'd be wrong, though. It would just be a jumbled mess.

For the record, I don't listen to it, I just have an open mind.
And as has been said many, many times, it's not automatically good. It depends on what you're mixing together. You're right, most combinations would turn out horribly. And whether it'd be called music or not, there's some combinations that'd be nice to listen to, you'll have to admit that. Like your art analogy, you couldn't do it with just anything, but I can bet there's been a few art combinations that'd bring out some form of interest.

I'm not saying that it's common for there to be combinations or that you can just pop two random songs together and call it good. I'm just open minded enough to see it's not an impossibility.

You're welcome to call the concept dumb though, if you want.

I prefer pop/rock most but I like music from just about any genre. Still, I lean towards rock and instrumentals most and to rap and the 'wild' jazz the least. Smooth jazz I love and there was an awesome smooth jazz station in Florida (http://www.wsbz.com/) where I lived that had some of the best jazz tunes in the Panhandle. Still, I like everything from MC Hammer to Bach to Lee Greenwood and Lynyrd Skynyrd all the way to O-Zone and Utada Hikaru. I'm hardly indecisive as the vast majority of music produced I don't enjoy but when I hear a song I do, I try to get it.

It would be unfair of me to single out genres or even nationalities from my enjoyment. I'll listen to anything once if just to experience that particular sound of music. In many cases that once is the only time I hear it (or want to hear it in some cases). So I've amassed a collection spanning both countries and genres and I listen to it all on a regular basis through random playing in most cases. All countries have brilliant musicians spanning all generes of music and to limit oneself to a single type of music or a single nationality is simply closing oneself off from the wonderful world of music.
