I don't know if this topic have been done before, but would you guys mind Ads in this game if it was free or reduced (to $5 bucks) to play online?

I wouldn't. A few Nike and Gap ads wouldn't hurt for free online play!

Sychosis

I'd much rather companies be given advertisement in game in exchange for NA/EU event sponsorship.

i fail to understand this.

you mean like having a Nike` Rifle?

Siertes

As long as De Ragan doesn't start spitting Pepsi out of its mouth, I wouldn't mind ads at all. Easily ignorable...

Actually, a Pepsi Rappy might be kind of cool.

I wouldn't mind as long as they fit into the PSU style of things. If the ad is in Parum have it fit in to its environment, etc.. >_<

He means like replacing the already existent advertisements, like the one for "Comsic Selects" and replacing it was a Nike advertisement.

stuff like this i wouldn't mind at all. I don't mind as long as they make it fit in and we actually get a benefit from it (rather than ST just taking the extra cash for themselves).

Actually, I'd rather pay more than to see ads. I play a game to get away form every day life. And ads are really annoying nowadays. No thanks!

That might be acceptable, depending on amount of ads and ad targeting. I just dont want to have to run ad-aware before and after i run psu.

I think it would mess with the "immersion", myself. Why have real-life ads in a futuristic alternate universe?

As stated before, I wouldn't mind it as long we got something out of it.

And I thought I was just joking when I said S-class monsters often wear Reebok, Nikes, and Converse All-Stars while the Players are stuck with Buster Browns, when it came to many monsters having fantastic movement.

This somehow put that perspective into literal meaning. A reality where Go Vahras really do wear Nikes in order to explain how they move about, so well.

I wouldn't mind having ads for free online in psu..as long as they didn't interfere with gameplay..as it stands currently i don't think i'm gonna pay for continuing my account when my 180 days are up (i've always had an issue with pay to play anyway)

I think that real world ads are more appropriate in real world type games. Like The Sims, The Movies, and Grand Theft Auto.

Akaimizu
Apr 3, 2007, 02:29 PM
GTA only works depending on the Ads, and its Era. Even GTA thives off of staying *true* to the Era that it belongs to. So if the Era is 80s, or a particular time in the 90s; the ads would probably best reflect the ads that existed at the time. If GTAIV is more like Saints Row (where the time period and era is ficticious but assumed to be today), then they can use anything.

I think you nailed it with The Sims, though. They also pretty much assume no time period. It could be today. With the Movies, that actually could be very interesting. I mean, it would make an interesting choice. (While you might produce a movie that is stuck in an era), it's actually nice to have Ad material for scenes you want. Ads like that can actually breathe some life into a scene you create, adding a dose of reality to a scene.

I don't want to imagine how the colony's 4th floor would look like if online playing was free...

And it would ruin all the atmosphere to see real ads inside a fiction world IMO

Sonic did wear SOAP shoes at one point.

And I'm not sure if it was shop'd or not, but I remember seeing a screenshot from PSO BB where someone had a MAG with the Yahoo logo on it.

Anyhow this is something I wouldn't mind, it could actually be neat so long as the advertisements stayed futuristic.

Agreed. There is reason I pay for spyware and pop up blockers on my PC...I'm sick of being bombarded with ads everywhere I go. I too play the game for everyday life escapism. No thanks to ads too.

Although I suppose there could be seperate servers made, one that is free with ads, the other without ads which people have to pay to access. I know which one I'll be playing on.

If they somehow fit the ads into the PSU environment that would be a price I'd be willing to pay for a decreased monthly fee.

I said yes, but as long as it doesn't get like, unbearably intense. I don't want any monsters wearing Aeropostale, or An AMF tank covered in Jiffy Lube stickers, or worse yet, a PM with an ad for condoms!

Why do kids think this game is expensive?

Even when I was 16 I was earning $100 a week, that was in fucking 1991 and I bought my own bloody SNES games at $140 a throw.

Why do you find this game expensive?

Not to mention it's only like, $10 a month. Most people would spend $20-40 at a movie theatre for one short night, yet $10 a month is somehow too much for them. XD

advertising is destroying this country. Yes, let's all be brainwashed sheep and let advertisers put their fucking crap everywhere AFTER I paid 50 bucks for the game. I pay extra money a month just to use a DVR, so I can never EVER be forced to watch a commercial. When I get advertisements in the mail telling me to come to this and that restaurant, I don't ever go to that restaurant. Sega doesn't need money from advertising,l for God's sake. They need more programmers and bug testers. And they can use my 10 bucks a month to pay em with.

Kerschweiser

I hate ads. I mean I REALLY hate ads. They're on my drive to work every day, they interrupt my music, my television, I'm brainwashed before the theatre movie I want to see, they're calling me on my phone and knocking on my f***ing front door. I have had entirely ENOUGH of ads. The last thing I want to do is plunker down in front of my PS3 and start smacking Go Vahras only to see them brandishing Nike apparel.

I vote no. Or in this case, yes, since the question was whether I minded or not.

I'm totally for this! PSO just seemed "different" ever since the Dreamcast ver1 days where it was free to play for all. It trully felt like a proper global community like it should. Without hinderances like monthly payments. A PSO gamer, should NOT be denied to join in and play!

Yes, you get more casual gamers and silly idlers or what not. But I'd still like to meet and play with more various ppl out there!

If that means that I'll see ads thrown about bulletin boards in lobbies, then so be it!

Well, since clothing is a big part of PSU, maybe like 'Nike' shoes or 'Gap'/'Sean John' outfits.

And while PSU may be in the future, many movies/T.V. shows have in the past incorparated current products into Future worlds (Back to the Future 2 comes to mind).

And no pop-ups! The only thing I want is in-game ads, like certain billboards, clothing and maybe some weapons.

no, no, no and NO

I do not want advertisements in any game. It's a sell-out to crass corporate shills.

Next thing you know, advertisers will threaten to pull ads due to content they 'find objectible' and suddenly, it's not the developers that are making descisions about content, but Coca-Cola or McDonalds.

Sprint stuff in Madden

That's because you play those games and are willing to accept their advertisements. I used to have a TIVO until they started putting advertisements on the Now Playing menu (some weekend beta test). I'm not sure if their test showed that I sold my Tivos the next week to a neighbor who doesn't mind paying money to see advertisements. But I did. Now Tivo has lost the revunue of 2 boxes. It's a shame because I liked their networking feature. But I did't like it THAT much. Most of us play PSU to go to another world and escape and have fun, not to be reminded of marketing jackasses in the real world and the sheep-like people that lap at their heels for more. Oo, more gibblets of advertising goodness spilling on the floor for the masses to gobble up and emulate their peers. Gotta have the next best thing. Gotta get that Adidas Sword and that Black Heart. After all, everybody else is hunting one. What are all the trendy kids hunting now in PSU?

I have to agree, it depends on what kind of advertising there was. But seriously PSU is one of the cheaper MMORPG's out there. You can't afford $10 a month? Most gamers spend more than $100 dollars a month on games, what's an extra $10.

It's not that $10 is too expensive, but the ease of game play. Signing up for a sega account, needing a credit card/game card, etc.

It was less of a head ache back in PSO/DC ver.1 days. I want other PSU players to pop the disc in, connect their wire from the back, and just go online to play. And I kinda miss that aspect of it.
