That exact thing happened once before, on the 360. The Servers, themselves, are still up. You probably wont see a change on the page, for that, either. However, that was explained before as some temporary problem with the authentication servers, keeping people from logging back in.

Currently the authentication servers are down for maintenance to resolve and electrical issue. It should be resolved shortly and we will let you know when everything is back to normal.

Players who are trying to get online will experience issues with logging in, while players that are already online should not be affected unless they log off and try to log back on.

no system file update for me on ps2.... then again I was online when it the the problem arose and went off to go bck on when it was fixed.... unles it downloaded in the background which is kinda unlikely for the ps2 I thinks.
