1. What do you need to sign up for the beta?
The only thing you truly need is a japanese copy of the game for PS2 or PC. But in order to qualify, you need to have your account switched to the ISAO system. But your account does not need to be paid for.

2. How do I switch my account to the ISAO system?
First, go to the Isao login page, here:
https://ipas.isao.net/signup_psu/psu/login.htm

You will need your segalink id and password, which is what you used when you first signed up for PSU. After entering, you will be asked to accept the EULA and other agreements. And asked to input your personal information. Name needs to be in kanji (or atleast kana). And the address needs to be in the form of a japanese address (like the example *wink wink nudge nudge*)

3. How do I download the client?
http://illuminus-trial.phantasystaruniverse.jp/start/download.html
Big blue button in the middle of the page. You then use the first 12 numbers in your cd-key (back of your manual) without hyphens as your username, and last 4 as your password.

4. I'm having trouble using the client downloader or I can't find my manual, can you help me?
Step 1: Log into the Isao system:
https://ipas.isao.net/signup_psu/psu/login.htm

Step 2: Find your cd-key
On the isao website, after loging in, the page it brings you to (if you have correctly switched to the isao system), displays your name, whether your account is active, your cd-key, and the date you signed up.

The cd-key will be in the form:
1234-5678-9012-3456-7890

The information you will use is:
Username: 123456789012
Pass: 7890

Step 3: Download the client
If the downloader isn't working for you, you can follow a direct link, using your username and password from above:
http://dl.segaonline.jp/illuminus_setup.exe

5. How big is the client, and what are the system reqs?
The initial client download is 833MB. You will need atleast an additional 1GB (1.5GB to be safe), on top of your PSU install if you have PSU installed.

System reqs are the same as PSUs. If you can run PSU, you can run Illumines. The system reqs can be found here:
http://illuminus-trial.phantasystaruniverse.jp/start/spec.html

Or you can use PSU's system reqs, found in english here:
http://phantasystaruniverse.com/support_sysreq.php

6. How long does the beta last?
It will start after the April 5th scheduled maintenance. This is from JST (GMT+9) 9:00am - 6:00pm. Thats from EST (GMT-5) (+1 for DST) April 4th, 8:00pm - April 5th 5:00am. And will end after the maintenance on April 26th.

7. Will you need the original version of the game?
A lot of the content appears to be from the original version of the game, I would suspect you would. For the beta, you do not need the original version installed (though you need to own it).

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesSpacer01.jpg

2. Will I be able to use my characters from the original game?
There is a selector that selects which world you want to pull data from. The data is copied from the original servers as of 3/29. Its important to note taht they are copies, and that what happens in the beta stays in the beta.

After the beta, World 1 and World 2 of the japanese server will be combined into a single server. Once Illumines is released, you will be able to use your old character, but only people will illumines will be able to access illumines content (which is color coded in yellow).

3. What are some of the class changes?

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesStats2.png

4. What are the 2 new classes?
(no prereqs for either right now, and both of them level like basic classes. Nobody thinks it will stay this way in the final version)
Acrofighter:
S-ranks - twin sabers, saber, dagger, claw, slicer, handgun, shadoog
A-ranks - twin handgun, card
Level 40 Skills, Level 30 bullets
20% faster with twin sabers
Description: Acrofighter plays much like a figunner. The class is based on swift melee combat complemented by shadoogs. The class has similar stats to figunner aswell, except for an increase amount of evade and defence at the sacrafice of weapon selection.

Acrotecher:
S-rank - Twin dagger, saber, dagger, whip, handgun, card, madoog
A-rank - twin handgun, wand
Level 20 skills, level 30 bullets, level 30 attack techs, Level 50 support techs.
20% faster with twin daggers
Description: Acrotechers are primarily a tech based class, that can be complemented by single handed melee ability. They achieve this through the use of Madoogs. While not built to rely on melee, even as a beast or cast, the class tries to balance damage potential through techs and swiftness with melee weapons. It also boasts the best support ability, though focusing only on support is cutting an acrotechers abilities short.

5. How do you autorun?
On controllers you press left, on keyboards you press r. You just run straight, endlessly till you press the button again. You can also press down or up to cycle targeting the players in party. And then press left to autro run towards that player. This causes a green line to show up connecting you to the other player.

6. How do looking for party flags work?
One of the "above head" views that you can switch through has a Looking for Party section. In this you can have a variety of things, such as actively looking for party, solo player, not looking for party, etc.

7. How do My Room away messages work?
You can set a message for your PM to say as people enter your room. This is done at your PM. Theres two options for this, I think one might be a "Thank you for shopping" style message. More info later.

8. How do the new weapons work?
Shadoogs - Shadoogs are basically like autofire mechguns. They have no PP and just fire at will when monsters are in front of you and within range. They also have the chance of dealing level 4 status effects, most of which are of better type than can be achieved using guns (such as stun, sleep, and down).

Madoogs - Madoogs are basically off-hand wands. They have about the same TP as a youmei wand, but have roughly half the PP. They regen slower than wands aswell. This makes it so you can't rely on them for support unless there is other support in party. They don't replace wands, but allow you to supplement your offensive ability while in melee range.

Whips - Whips are the most unique weapon in AoI. They function as status effect dealing melee weapons. they have a very large AoE. It has a very fluid movement, but its hard to tell how far it hits and takes some getting used to. Overall, its speed and damage aren't very great, but it can hit a very large number of enemies and its current PA is very effective crowd control. The normal combo is 4 hits, the first 2 coming out slow and wide, while the second 2 come out fast and deep. The PA consists of 4 hits on the first combo, and 3 hits on the second. The second combo has a small pause after the first hit but before the last 2 hits make it have an akward speed. The last hit has knockback.

Slicers - Slicers function similarly to slicers in PSO, but can better be described as melee lasers. They are melee weapons and deal melee damage. You can lock onto what ever is in front of you and the cutters may make what appears to be small curve but is overall still straight. The actual range they can lock on is rather large, but the standard combo for them has a very long traveling distance that can easily make you lose your lock on (especially against flying targets). The normal combo is 3 hits. The PA is 1 large boomerang for the first combo, 2 large boomerangs for the second combo. These boomerangs have increase range and AoE, but take a long time to come out. You also have a sort of lock on effect while charging them, which can make it extraordinarily hard to aim.

9. How does the Casino work?
Each day you are given 100 Bronze to play with. I would expect the actual release amount will be lower.

Theres 3 main things to do in the casino. The first is Roulette, which you're bombarded with as soon as you enter the room. The entire floor is a gigantic Roulette board. The games start when outer circle slowly starts becoming highlighted. During this time you can place your bets by standing on the spaces you wish to be and selected them. After its fully highlight the game begins, betting is disabled, and the wheel spins. You win multiples of bronze based on the rarity of your bet spaces.

2nd, you can do slot machines. You press use to add coins, then press alt attack to pull the lever. You win by getting 3 in a row. Amounts are shown on the left hand side of the screen.

3rd, you can spend your bronze on items.

10. How was the death penalty changed?
If someone dies in party and is revived, then it does not get counted against the death penalty. This means theres only 2 situations where you can lose rank based on death.
- You die and respawn to town
- An NPC dies

11. How was the grinding system changed?
The grind rate was lowered significantly, but the weapon is no longer destroyed when you fail a grind. This doesn't necessarily increase the number of highly grinded weapons because of the lower rate.

12. Do PAs over level 30 get new additions?
Skills do not get any added combos to them, but do get increased damage.
Bullets do not get any added bullets to them, but get increases ATA, ATP, and elemental %s.
Techs do get larger effect areas, and increased damage, and new graphical effects.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesSpacer02.jpg

2. New clothes?
Female 1 (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes01.jpg) ( Colors (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes09.jpg) )
Female 2 (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes02.jpg) ( Colors (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes10.jpg) )
Male 1 (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes03.jpg) ( Colors (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes12.jpg) )
Male 2 (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes04.jpg) ( Colors (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes13.jpg) )
Cast Female (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes05.jpg)
Cast Male (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes06.jpg)
Both female (one piece) (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes07.jpg) ( Colors (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes11.jpg) )
Both Male(one piece) (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes08.jpg) ( Colors (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesClothes14.jpg) )

3. New Hairstyles?
The new hairstyles fit into a basic system. You have a "front" of hair, and a "back" of hair. Then they are combined together in different ways. I will get male hairstyles up later, but for now:
Female Front (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesHair01.jpg)
Female Back (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesHair02.jpg)

There is also a new system for choosing hair styles, that allows you to chose the hair style first, then the accessory, so you don't need to flip through the 250-ish choices. Keep in mind though, this does not ADD any previously unattainable combinations, its only a way of organizing what was already there.

4. Do class levels go over 10?
The beta's current cap is 20. But, due to a bug, it was found that the actual cap is 30.

5. What new monsters are online?
There are 2 reskins of Gaozoran in Rozenom (on parum).
Grass assassins as well as a variation of Kamatouze are mini bosses in the Rozenom area.
There are 2 variations of Vanda in the De Rol Le mission.
De Rol Le is a boss on Moatoob.
There are ice variations of most moatoob monsters in the ice cave on moatoob.
Booma, Gigobooma, and a variation of Rappy make an appearance in PSO Forest.
There are 2 new monsters and a reskin of Gaozoran in the Neudaiz Shrine level.
A variation of De Ragnus is a boss on Neudaiz.

6. How is the My Room system changed?
There are new reform tickets available from the store. After using one of these, you get an episode 2 style room. These don't have the little boxes on the ground, and you can turn what is called the "room grid" on and off through your PM. When the room grid is on, you may add and remove my room items. Items are 2x2 blocks on the grid, and theres even grid on the walls, shelves, and even on some of the room items you put in (you can put more items onto a table or shelf you buy). You have a limit to the number of spaces you can use up in the room and each My room item you place takes up a certain number of this limit. Once you reach the limit, even if you have empty spaces on the grid, you may no longer add to your room.
Grid Examples:
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesRoom01.jpg
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesRoom02.jpg
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesRoom03.jpg
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesRoom04.jpg
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesRoom05.jpg

There are also interactive my room items such as the infamous fan and the bell series, including chairs and seating that you can place in your room.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesRoom06.jpg

7. Why are you obsessed with green green farm boxes?
Because they are AWESOME. No seriously. Heres the low down on them:
They are a my room item. You can plant them in somebodies room, then add one item and a message to them. Then the owner of the room may open them like a present. So they are a sort of way to leave gifts. A mailbox of sorts. Its something thats probably largely overlooked, but a very good addition to PSU.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesSpacer03.jpg
1. Hows Shadow Mapping work?
In the options menu, you can choose between having shadown mapping for you, your party, or enemies (which I assume includes your party). This is a real time shadow, that is actually in the form of your body. Runs with you, bends over walls, etc. It adds a nice little touch.
Shadow map set to self:
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesGraphics01.jpg

2. Is the text still distorted / hard to read?
Yes, but its far easier to read. They're using a new filter on it that makes everything look crisper and easier to read.

3. How do the new facial expressions work?
The facial expressions are a reskinning of the actual in game face of your character to immitate the cut in chats. Every emote in the game has a default expression associated with it, and this can be further changed by hard coding the emotes. For example, alt+1 has a wide smile emote (@7 I think). But you can change this by typing out "/alt1@4" or something to that nature. You need to have some text after it so you say something, or else the emote won't work. Also, while in a mission, the @ commands will not actually change your facial expresion.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesGraphics04.jpg

4. How are rarity stars handled now?
The stars are actually smaller and color coded. The first 3 will always be dark blue, the next 3 will always be light blue, the next 3 green, etc. This makes it easier to read how many stars it is by just glancing, and it also makes most of the on screen windows smaller, since the actual stars are smaller.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesGraphics02.jpg

5. How are new items to shops handled?
New items in shops have flashing yellow exclamation points next to them. This makes it easy to distinguish if something is new. Especially in situations where the new items are mixed in with old ones.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/IlluminesGraphics03.jpg

6. How can you tell what is illumines stuff?
All illumines content appears is yellow text. It is assumed that in the final version of the game, people who own the illumines version will have yellow names, and those who have not will have white names. And only those who have illumines (yellow names) can access illumines areas (yellow areas).

7. How does Skill color coding work?
Every time a skill breaks into the next teir up, it gains a new color. These folow the same color patterns as PSO weapons. Lvl 1 through 10 have green, 11 through 20 have blue, etc.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f369/Akukame/image00001556.jpg

----- Questions about things Unique to the Beta -----
1. Is there an offline mode?
There is an offline mode, but you are unable to select it, and the content for it is not in the client downloaded.

2. Are PAs expected to be different in the beta?
The new weapons level at crazy speeds, the new classes aswell. This is most likely only because they want people to try out these new things.

Also, in the beta, it doesn't appear to have skill caps on. That means a guntecher can spam level 30 skills if they so choose. And all classes can just continuously level PAs. Not that PAs level that fast.

3. Whats this about you having free warps?
The warp ladies right now are giving free warps to the lobbies. Supposedly, in interviews, it was said that these will eventually cost money. But for now, you don't even need a friend in the lobby, you can warp there for free from the lady.

4. The beta is PC only, but is Illumines expected to be for other systems?
All of the advertisements say PC / PS2 / X360. Its assumed it will be for all 3.

So if i've read correctly you will be able to use your character data they copied during the March 23rd update for this beta? Hopefully this bit of info will squash any character tranferability worries some of us have.

Itsuki
Apr 4, 2007, 05:01 PM
The website states that your data will be copied. So yes, characters are probably transferable. But items and meseta are up in the air. I'll add information on the items, meseta, etc. once the beta starts.

You do know full well that they will most likely delay server up again right? Historical evidence dictates that the chance of delay is proportional to the size of the update/maintenance. This being the start of a new beta, I'd say the chances are pretty high XD

Itsuki
Apr 4, 2007, 05:23 PM
Chances are, most of what I'm doing will be posted in a thread... in the contributors forum. I'll see how things pan out a bit, and will probably be taking lots of screenshots. How many of them make it out is questionable right now though http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif At the very least, I plan on taking screenshots of every piece of clothing released in several angles at very high res for the fashion thread.

EDIT: Lyrise: Ya, I know. Historically speaking, 9 hour maintenance, we can expect servers back up in 15 hours at the earliest. But... I'm hoping for the best here. They haven't really worked on anything in PSU during March. So they damn well better have been working on Illumines.

Yeah. Though I really wouldn't mind if they delayed it. Just gives me a chance to sleep properly, rather than wake up at like, 3AM my time just to see the server go up.

Depends on what classes can use them. Though there is some plans to make bondagy pictures with the whips. And since this doesn't effect the real game, everyone is going to be more than willing to blow their meseta on everything (assuming meseta transfers)

Yes, indeed. I'll be looking forward to this information as it'll (begin to) put a stop to the endless arguments over who can use what. (Of course, it probably won't affect the arguments over what weapon different people think a battle type should be able to use. But, ah well.)

Oh, yeah. And my usual concern: the music. How is it? (I know, matter of opinion, etc.) How does it compare to our current soundtrack? Were the menu themes or title theme changed?

It is unknown at this time how they will handle the 2 worlds and how exactly the characters will be copied over. Once the beta starts, I'll update with more info.

I believe the case at the moment its everyone on the same set of servers. How they handle the 2 worlds is that there will be 2 "Entrances" to pick from, each one corresponding to one of the worlds from PSU. Choose the entrance that corresponds with your world, then log in.

Going by shots of the title screen I've seen at the JP image uploader (http://moemi.mithra.to/~psu/uploader/index.html), it shows an (unselectable) option for story mode, which we can assume is offline.

Ah, looks like they're still missing the buzz cut option for guys. Well, maybe there will be something in those that I really like. I can't tell too well from the scan since the blond hair blends in with the character's skin tone. But, I imagine by tomorrow we'll be seeing hi-res screens of all the hair styles available in the trial, so that problem will be fixed.

Very nice! For those who don't want to be bothered jamming the page in google:

Rozenom City Mission 1 (Parum)
Start Counter: Holtes City Flyer Base

Shucks, I was hoping for new hubs. Oh well. Apparently, [spoiler]the SEED Virus was leaked from a GRM laboratory causing the local fauna to become infected and attack?

Rozenom City Mission 2 (Parum)
Start Counter: Old Rozenom City Parakabana (Pala Cabana?) towards the coast

Mission description mentions a new enemy called "Gainoceros" (or something close).

Garanigus Mine Mission 1
Start Counter: Northern Continent: Vio Tonga towards Garanigus (not Galenigare?) Mine

I guess this answers what exactly is behind that laser fence. Apparently there were creatures here that got infected during the first invasion, left undiscovered because, well, it's the Northern Continent, freezing as hell, and miles away from any civilization. It's your job to clean out the infected creatures.

Garanigus Mine Mission 2
Start Counter: Northern Continent: Garanigus Mine towards "boruwaiyaru?"

There's an underground lake here, too... with apparently a large creature frozen in the ice, awakened by the SEED Virus which has been spread there by the Illuminus. The creatures name is... De Rolei. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif (The name is skewed in much the same way we went from "Dragon" in PSO to "De Ragan" in PSU) I'm looking forward to an orchestral version of "From seeing the rough wave".

In addition to the missions listed, a few original PSU missions are also on the servers, though not all:

- Guardians Colony: Linear Line (both)
- Parum: Raffon Meadow 1, De Ragan
- Neudaiz: Mizuraki CD 1, Onmagoug
- Moatoob: Galenigare Canyon 1 & 2, Tunnel Recapture, and also Bruce's Dungeon

I think you may have answered your own question there. I imagine they received S ranks now mainly because with the class types going past 10 they can actually equip them now?

That said, work in progress, and whatnot. There's a distinct possibility that a lot of this could be changed/rebalanced for the retail version--heck, even before the trial is over, even.

Hmm. Nice Protranser stuff. Then again, I think that's the point. They make you work fairly hard for being a Protranser, so I guess they want the end-game of them to be as cool as possible.

Hmm. In addition to their old, they give GTs S-rank Bows now. More incentive to keep my Bow arts along with my Rifle ones. The highly increased Support Techs for GTs also given them the option of sharing the primary buff/debuff role. Especially as monsters get stronger and some of the most powerful aids are anything that works on a percentage instead of flat numbers.

How this balances out? Too hard to tell. But I'm glad to see anything that increases a class' potential and further promotes the specific role they've been advertised for.

And just like a line from a "Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction" commercial. I will get a whip just because I can!! (That, and it would be so cool to use the item Tynselle's Father used in her backstory, long before in-game photon whips were even known as a reality)

How's the cast time on the Madoog, Itsuki-chan?

Slower than a wand but faster than a rod?

An Acrotecher (high EVP), with an S rank saber and a Madoog (w/resta, reverser)...would make for an awesome solo character.

I understand guntechters getting whips, but slicers? C'mon, that fits more with fortegunners. :/ Totally unecessary, and now with bows, seemingly just unfair. I really hope some more changes are made to classes, and hope someone releases information about post-Lv10 stats. Even if forteclasses get major boosts in stats to make up for the hybrid classes getting more weapons, they still miss out on one very important thing that getting new weapons adds: fun

The biggest uses for fortegunners and fotetechers are being replaced with another class. I'd say they are equally screwed if things don't change.

Fortefighters still have their melee supremacy it seems.

The cast times for the floating mag is faster than the wand I found.

But it has much less PP, about 280 for the 2* one and less TP.

Good for quick fire resta/reverser.

As for the forte classes getting shafted, I dunno. ST could remedy this by making the requirements for high-class (15*+) S-rank weapons so high that only the forte classes have the ATP, ATA and TP necessary to use them. Easy answer for the non-forte love.

In addition to the autorun, you can also follow a party member by pressing down. Pressing up will change to another person. It seems it only work at certain distances. You can also do this outside of missions. You will continue to follow until you either cancel it or the person you're following is out of range.

Does anyone have/is making a video of all the new weapons in action?

Do PAs get anything at 31? This would go for BAs too(Rifle status 5? More crossbow/shot bullets)

Techs get new effects at 31+?

Looks like Wartecher gets a much-needed buffing up for the Expansion- so much so I'm considering changing my fF to WT as a primary job.

Also, I'm wondering if fF gets any notable increases (other than the Lv40 skills)- aside from that they seem (in addition to the fG and fT) to be a bit shafted compared to some of the classes.

Mind, I guess fT makes up for it with the TP(I don't think Arcotecher gets as high TP?)

Maybe Bullets and Techs will get new effects, but I honestly doubt PAs will. Most if not all of the PAs last hits are finishers and really leave no room for a follow up. I'm guessing they will just get a better att and ata boost. Who knows though sega could change it so those last hits arent finishers anymore and add on new stuff.

I don't think anyone is capable of contrasting the two yet. We don't know what the stats will be for Fortetecher past level 10 or the stat growth for the AcroTecher. Also, we don't know what tech growth is like past 30.

I agree. I would definitely risk more grinds if it simply reverted the weapon back to 0 on a fail. I can lose grinders, but losing the weapon just seems that much more costly. Keeping it to a sting instead of a true detriment where you can't afford to lose it, is much better, IMO.

I, for one, don't like the idea of losing a weapon, in one grind, that took me a month and a half to get.

Break-free grinding doesn't make it any easier.

Prices on +10 grinders are gonna skyrocket.

With it being break-free that turns grinding into something I could do, rather than something I'd avoid doing.

As *popular* Guntecher is. You think they could afford to lose anything? They get the S-bow, yes, but then again, it's probably because they want to promote them on doing what they can to bosses without getting killed. The Attack techs are still the cat's meow, but putting the GT in such a bad DFP/MST category, they probably want to give them more incentive in staying out of range.

Me thinks this only leads to one possibility. That we're about to see some more Bullet Resistant big guys, in the future. I think it's possibly because they really wanted the GTs to use support techs more, and screwed up the class, in the first place, by making all the other techer classes get better ones. Thus the separation of Attack/Support Tech stats sounds more like a fix, to be able to better promote what they defined the class for, in the first place.

I doubt it's really taking a job when it seems it's quite good to have multiple techers, in there, in the first place. Techers can cover for other techers, you know. I've already often seen a double techer spread, where I agree to pace the other Techer (across the way) so we can cover as much ground as possible.

I'll have to see how they work, myself. I wasn't a Slicer Fan, in the first PSO, because of the slow movement and *recovery time* from using the Slicers then. If they add some real mobility to it, it might be tastier.

Still, Acrotecher would be interesting to use. No S-Rank Twin-Gunnies, but they do get A-ranks. That could definitely be a nice secondary-job for Tynselle. Very characteristic, at least.

It'll definitely be a secondary job for Mufonna as I lead the story of the Six Square Circus on. Heck, it might even become her primary depending on how it balances out. However, that's way in the future, and so much will have to happen to show her character alter from the way it is now.

Everything in the expansion looks wonderful, I mean, I was holding my breath for S-rank bows for my GT, which I have been working so hard on.

But shes a Cast, I wonder if with the new job lvls + racial bonuses I will be stuck with one job as a cast - fortegunner. That would be the only thing to make me angry, I like having choices. And I wonder who gets bonuses for the new classes. As it is beast and cast only get bonuses for one job, does that mean thats the only job we can excel at. =(

That might be a change in some way. It seems they really do want the Acrotechers to gain the high form for Support Techs only. 50 seems amazing. It's like they can buff or debuff the whole room with that. (I like to see how slow the climb is from 40 to 50, even if they spam the buffs/debuffs). It's like they suddenly became the *bards* of the group. (A potentially very sought-after class)

Makes me wonder how things fall into place as we party with variations of these classes. I'm sure a lot of things are being retooled, that we don't see with this information. I'm good with a little role-sharing, as it seems that we'll have plenty of cases where more than one filling out a role has its place.

Lyrise
Apr 5, 2007, 10:52 AM
Just to clarify, ATs have 2 special roles. 1. They are designed for being the ULTIMATE support. You cannot get better than this as far as support. Even the game's description of the class states this fact. And 2. This class is as close as you can get to a HUnewearl in PSO, due to the versatility of your attack options.

That said, the Acrotecher class is basically a clone of the wartecher class, and yet it's the polar opposite at the same time. Your defense will suck as an AT, but your evasion will be far higher than anything a WT will generate. Both classes have focus into attack, but AT more on the offensive side and WT on the defensive side.

Don't judge these classes by paper stats, once you play them you'll understand completely what the roles are and where they fit into place.

BTW, early shots of any ATs, the stats are glitched. AT lv1, I had a lot of defense, 119 to be exact
but apparently, ATs aren't supposed to have that much defense, so the moment I hit lv2, I took a nosedive in that area all the way to 76.

I translated it and saw what it said:

Even with when it fails in weapon strengthening as for the weapon way it is not gone, modification
- When it fails in weapon strengthening, it reached the point where strengthening +0 returns to state.

That is some of the BEST news I've heard about this expansion so far. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif Yes, strengthening all those 44-50% weapons won't be such a pain anymore. Just gotta collect a TON of grinder+10! Even if I got it to +9, tried one more and it failed, seeing it go back down to (0) and keeping my weapon will hurt a LOT less than losing the weapon all together. I'll take it.

Hmm i have a feeling that a lot of people who were playing Wartecher just to have buffs/resta/reverser will switch over to acrotecher.

S rank bow for guntecher just reinforces my love for guntecher now o_o

Acrofighter just seems... weird. They seem like they were stuck in last minute.

Another thing that worries me... with all these raises in limits... how are they going to rebalance the whole game? I mean if many of us can run through S2 without these increases in caps, wouldnt S2 and S be a joke around for us? I mean where's that "S" feeling. What? S3 S4 S5? x_x;

Actually, I quite surprised that the Forte classes aren't FORCED to be more specialized.
Instead of this:
Fortefighter:
Level 40 Skills, level 20 bullets.

Fortegunner:
A-rank Shadoog
Level 20 Skills, level 40 bullets.

Fortecher:
Level 10 Skills, level 30 bullets, level 40 attack techs, level 40 support techs.
-----------------

Shouldn't the forte classes be more like this?

Fortefighter:
Level 50 Skills, level 10 bullets.

Fortegunner:
A-rank Shadoog
Level 10 Skills, level 50 bullets.

Fortecher:
Level 10 Skills, level 30 bullets, level 50 attack techs, level 30 support techs.

I guess nothing's programmed past 50 except for support techs then.

Yes, they work the same. But because you don't break weapons while grinding (all though grinding rate is abysmal now), high percent weapons are easier to grind.

In all practicality, NONE of the forte classes get Mags. Fortefighter and Fortecher don't get any. And they're completely useless on a Fortegunner. (A weaker "gun" you can't control, that replaces your crossbow, and deals mediocre damage? No thank you)

Well, since Support Spells are the only thing I see even hit 50, maybe 40 is good enough as long as it's the highest. You do have to realize that even though someone else might hit 40, the TP or ATP of the class might make a bigger difference than many would think. There's only a small known group of techs that don't depend on TP. One has to weigh in a lot more than just Skill numbers, to see how this works. We don't even know what the final statistical breakdowns are going to be for all these classes, yet.

for exampleGoing back to the whole "Fortes get 50 skill levels thing", fF should have, HANDS DOWN, the highest ATP in the game, right now lv10 fF is only a little better than lv10HU in most aspects, the first level fF exceeds a HU stat (an important one) is at about job level 8, am I wrong? fF needs MUCH better leveling bonuses for one, and basic dmg that competes (note: NOT exceed) with the damage that Forces/Rangers with SE4 Virus can push out on top of their continued attacking

Think of it this way, using the new grass assassin for the sake of argument:

fF does heavy damage just by using a Photon Art (yet somehow still not so much that he kills in 3 hits)

Meanwhile:
A GT, for example, gets SE4 Virus on the same enemy, doing that delicious 45%(?) gradual HP drain, while STILL chipping away at its HP with his bow, adding up to some heavy damage, but still keeping each individual hit relatively low in damage

Hopefully if i explained it right, it would all come down to the player's preference, not "which class does more damage in the long run"

Stuff is going to be tweaked before the final release, christ, they aren't going to make some classes totally useless.

Some people should look up "beta"

I like the idea of a class that can buff better than fortetechers. I hear many complaints about forces who hate buffing, but have to because "that's their job." Now they can focus on what they love (burning things with fire) and still get buffs via the class that's better at buffing than they are.

Everybody wins!

again, Fortetechers are the only ones with level 40 attack techs.

fGs, fF - what do they have?

for those who said they Fortetypes have better stats...you've got to be joking me. An Axe has 1000 ATP, a 8* swords darn near 700. you an extra 100 ATP really makes a difference when combined with weapons that are that strong?

no.

Look this is a beta you know and things change.

Btw.. is the PA limit still at 36?

The PA limit question is probably the most asked one I've come across http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Yes, it is still 36.

I'd rather not have it that way. It sort of pisses me off actually. I mean, some degree of conversation is acceptable, but I don't want to have to search through 200 posts for 10 questions. Same as in the SS thread I don't think people should have to search through 200 posts for 10 posts with pictures. And that is sort of whats happening here. I eventually want to combine the information into the first post, and all the misc. chatter is going to make it difficult.

1) I'm not sure if anyone knows this one, but for PS2 will this expansion require you to have the first disc? I have PC, but my PC sucks and can barely handle PSU now. I know I won't be able to add AoI too it. So really, my quesion is if I can switch over to PS2 for AoI without the first PSU disc.

2) Acrotecher is looking reallllly fine right now. I have a beast, but got unhappy with him and made a newman to make my main as a ft. Now acrotecher is looking better. What race (out of all of them except humans) seems like it would be the most suited for acrotecher?

There is too much stuff to take in. Frankly I'm confused.

1) I think it is unknown as of now

2) probably your Newman, also AT is more so the "White Mage" of Techers as it was put

This is the beta. Nobody knows because everything will probably be changed by the true release.

At least for the most part the same questions are getting asked, so it'll speed up the question finding somewhat at least

Yes, but it gives the "complete" (nuking AND support{yes, we exist!}) fortetechers a conundrum: Do I go for level 40 "attack" techs and level 40 "support" techs or for level 30 "attack" techs and level 50 "support" techs??

Plus, if I do switch to Acrotecher, I'll have to lose some of the spells I have for PA's and more bullets.....

because the only reason anyone wants a FO is for the buffs XD
in before "FO's are more than buffers" war

did Sega (or whoever is responsible for this inflow of info) ever release any info on slicers?

Am I the only one thinking that GTs atp and other stats might "balanced" due to their newly added abilities with lvl 40 bullets and 30 support techs?

Man, we're going to be seeing a lot more GTs, I liked being a rarity among the see of other classes. =

I think some people still forget that fortetechers have a good advantage in PP usage and still have the largest stat bonus for TP. Plus the lack of being able to use S rank FO weaponary is a huge hit on acrotecher in terms of technique offensive power.

One big question. (At least for me...)

What are the level requirements for the 2 new classes? I seem to have my eye on this Aerofighter class...

You guys should be able to check, right? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

The question is answered in the first post. But I'll answer it here aswell. In the beta, there are no reqs for it, and it levels like a basic class. But this is very obviously not how its meantt o be in the final version of the game.

It has to be in the proper address form, like the example.

I guess that means only freshly made characters will be able to choose this sweet cast face.

Anyone check synth rates if they have changed? Especially armor synths. Any new synthesis material converter boards like ore 8*=>9* and Wood A=>S?
