yea the JP version will have a hunter's license fee because its packed in with the XBL starter kit (while we get Whacked! and some other game)

it is unknown, however, if the US version will have a seperate fee, but i assume they will due to the rumors floating about

It's quite unlikely that the US version would need a separate fee since the game will be played across Microsoft's servers (it's doing that in the Japanese version, also) and we'll have to buy the game (Japanese get it free with their starter kits, thus the reason Sonic Team needs them to pay for playing, so they make profit from it).

They'll realy not have a reason for charging extra in the US, since we have to buy the game and they don't need money to maintain the servers because we aren't using theirs (just like all Live enabled games).

right it makes sense for JP to have a HL fee, i do remember hearing one of the spokespeople from MS ay sumthing like "xbox live is like cable, the 49.99 pays for your initial fee, and there are some other games or services that require additional charges depending on the content."

According to Sonic Team's Japanese Xbox site...

http://www.sonicteam.com/pso_xbox.html

It has a 600 yen per month HL fee. That's a little less than $5. I don't know where that one site got the $20 idea...

The game will be released around the time when the XBOX Live beta test is completed in Japan (January).

As of now, there are no plans, whatsoever, to charge an additional fee in the States. It seems that the extra fee in Japan is mostly to cover the software costs (Sonic Team gets a monthly fee in Japan, and Microsoft gets a very popular, A+ title to draw people into the XBOX Live service).

I hope it does get released the same times as the Japanese version. The waiting is killing me.

I wonder how the heck they get "Fall 2003" on that website...

I would probably vomit with rage and then go buy the gamecube version, swearing off the Xbox version, and not getting Xbox Live.

From http://gamespot.com/gamespot/filters/products/0,11114,561400,00.html :

"Publisher: Sega Developer: Sonic Team Genre: Role-Playing [b]Release Date: TBA[b]"

The major game sites don't even have a release calendar date. There's no way it's releasing in the US for January or even February, because it's not even available for wholesalers and retailers to place orders yet, and that means they don't have promotional materials, haven't alotted shelf-space, etc. T'ain't gonna happen.

Personally I'm bummed that Nintendo is not jumping all over the "voice" feature for internet play. That is what video game systems need since a keyboard is such an awkward add-on. PS2 games are pushing it and all Xbox live games are *required* to have voice support. If the Xbox version was out now, I'd be playing it instead. But who knows when the hell it will be out. It's not even hinting at 1st Quarter release.

*grumbles* MS, why you always make me hit you! [/sarcasm]

Bleh. Maybe I'll get suckered into buying the GC version AND the Xbox version. *grumbles more*

Where'd you hear that gem from? So far I haven't heard anything but speculation.

Whats up with the delayed US release. The game is already translated, why would they wait longer after the JP release.

Why it hasn't been released yet, I wish we knew.

The only thing I could think of is if it hadn't really been set up or tested for Xbox Live yet... Yuji Naka said it was finished, but maybe it was finished as far as they were concerned, and MS still had to do something with the game for it online.

But of course that's just a guess. It's being used for the Beta test of XBL in Japan right now. Whether that makes any difference, I don't know. Maybe it's also meant to be a test for PSO itself, to make sure it's ready for U.S. release.

i was thinkin about this earlier but maybe MS is tryin to figure something out with the voice chat feature. Most likely all the profanity (from what ive heard) on XBL and not only that find some way to limit the chatting in the lobby. Can u imagine goin in to Vega block 1 on a friday night what it would sound like thru the earpiece???

That's actually a very good point. Most likely they will require you to be on different channels. I highly doubt they'll only have a single channel. More like UTC, where you'll have 5 or 6 grouped together. Plus you can still type if you want to go cross channel.

Here's hoping MS is even working on PSOLive in the US at all yet. They've been swamped with putting so many games online that it wouldn't surprise me at all to see a few release dates sliding around like CapvsSNK2. But more time means a better playing experience. And personally I'm all for that.

This wait without any news is taxing on me.
I have ordered the Japanese Xbox Live Kit. I should be able to play PSO offline at the least.

If M$ takes their time, hopefully the release will be worth the wait. It's gotta be better organized than the release for GCN. At least with voice chat or typing, we can communicate.
