Timed Out

I was waiting for the GMs and it was a loonie bin out there and then all of a sudden everything stops and a message comes up saying that I was timed out and that I should wait a little before getting on again. What does this mean? Why me?

It happens all the time when there are mass amounts of spam in one area. Wait like 10-15 minutes and get back on.

I tend to stay away from those areas when there's events like this.
