story mode first or play network mode?

You can play all planets directly in network mode no need to beat story mode first...
Story could help you get the hang of gameplay but that can also be done online. Doing the story first will help you understand the online story though.

You can play anywhere online as long as you meet the lv requirement & ST opened it.
Offline story is background for online story missions.

ok so its like the ps2 version if you beat story mode you can go to all of the planets in extra mode and do all the missions. ok thanks for the help

Well I would recommend playing offline story first then play online. That way you got a feel for what to do and it will be a little less confusing.

Honestly, I wasn't too interested in the offline story mode until about 3 months into my PSU experience; then I took a weekend offline and beat it - and enjoyed it quite a bit.

The online story is interesting too.

Story Mode is like a giant tutorial. I recommend playing it first
