well truth is, thats 1 day old.

The actual color of the clay baked to that brown color, that white apperence is a glaze that is poured ontop of the piece after its first fireing.

In otherwords:
Wet Clay dried to a leathery state -> burned to a pink chippy thing, glazed to your liking (or badly done due to glaze blocking wax on your forms) -> fired again to make the end result.
