Hi! I'm Ranger Rose. Ranger because I like to shoot at things with big guns and Rose because I like the color red. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif I played the original PS games on the Genesis, way back when... in fact, I still have the games and the system. And, no they are not for sale. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Anyway, my daughter was finally getting into RPG type games outside of the Pokemon realm, so I bought her PSO Ep 1&2 for the GC at Christmas. We, as a family, have completely fallen in love with the game. Unfortunately, by the time we figured out what we were doing, the online servers were going down. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif Here's where I need help...

We were planning on getting into PSU, but from what I see, we can't play together offline? Which is our main interest, playing together. So, we have a little time to finish what we have, but then where to go from there? What do you suggest for the non-hard core gaming family? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif

I'm a bit confused. You want to play offline, but your looking to start PSU because the online servers are going down...
If your only looking to play offline together, stick with PSO. PSU doesn't have offline multiplayer.
If your looking to play online, you'll really have to switch to PSU.

I also noticed you said you played offline until you figured out what you were doing. You can always do Extra Mode, and just take turns or something. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

Oh, and welcome to PSOW.

Sorry, should've been more clear. We primarily play together offline. But, wanted to go online for the additional quests and goodies. I guess I should have asked if any of the other versions/episodes/incarnations/reincarnations/etc have offline multiplayer and active online servers? Or is there a legitimate way to still get the online quests, etc? Thanks.

The PSO Blue Burst servers are still up. Blue Burst is the latest incarnation, for the PC. Also includes Episode 4 (which uses the same battle system as 1&2, takes place before episode 3). They aren't very populated though, and are rampant with hacks and such. But if you really only play with each other that might not be as much of a problem.

There are also illegit ways, but that's as much as I can say here. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

The only way for the family to play PSU would be for everyone to get their own console/PC to play on. That may not be very cost effective though. With the PC/PS2 servers , you can play across different platforms. So if you have a couple up to date PCs or PS2s in the house you can go that route. PS2s are dirt cheap so it wouldn't be that bad. The only thing I would worry about is PSU is considerably more complex than PSO. It really depends on how old your daughter. She's smart enough to know how awesome PSO is though. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif However, you can still have a great experience even if you ignore all the synthesis and various upgrade systems. Good luck.
