Does anyone know if theres going to be pvp in the expansion?

Skuda

There has been no mention of PvP in AoI. I wouldn't count on seeing it.

I hear the right Grove of Fanatics map has a good number of people http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

You'd think people would get into e-wang contests enough already with their rare and high-percent weapons and such. They need't get another reason for more elitism and larger egos.

They did mention "Alternate modes"

It would be more likely to see something like C-Mode before PvP.

All I'm saying is, don't count on it untill we get some actual info on what these alternate mode pertain to.

We should have office chair races. Not photon chair ones but nice cubicle friendly ones.

Challenge Mode making a return would be so much better than PvP.

It's part of what made PSO fun, after the billionth or so time playing through the same four areas. You know, what with the whole requiring you work as a team part and all.

I thought alternate modes would be more along the lines of endless nightmare and more vehicle missions.

Heh, it hasn't degraded to flaming. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Anyway, I don't think there's gonna' be any PvP, but like Van said, there's plenty of peeps in some of the missions.

Actual pure "vehicle missions" probably wouldn't turn over so well in the context of the game, unless it were part of a story mission...

A more plausible way of doing things, would be along the lines of making all party members hop into a tank and control turrets/movement for the first part of the mission (say, travelling across a Moatoob desert), then going it on foot for the last part (a cave, for example).

Or maybe one with an escape sequence via Floader.

...For some reason, I get the impression that vehicle missions should be pretty difficult. :/

Aren't we getting the waterskingthingmagig missions? I guess we'll find out.

Does nobody actually think ahead to how bad pvp would be in a game like this? Holy crap, theres AUTOAIM. There would be NO skill involved in it, just like there is no real skill in playing the game regularly, its more about common sense and knowing things rather than actually thinking on your feet. PvP in this game would SUCK, get over it, odds are it wont happen.

Yeah, didn't think so.

There was actually a long discussion about how broken PvP would be a few months ago. Here's a link if you want to read up on what some people thought.

Make sure not to post, because that would bump it. And it's old.

Personally, I think that people on both ends of the spectrum tend to overreact to PvP. Those that dont want it threaten to quit the game if they see it, those that DO want it tend to call everyone else stupid.

Not saying im innocent in that context buuuuuut...

The entire idea that "Ohemgee PvP would so suck" or "PvP would so rock" is flawed in and of itself. Its like saying "The new Transformers movie will suck, because I though the old transformers were stupid too."

Yes, you HAVE played PSU, but you have no idea how the game would react in a PvP setting. you can make as many theories as you want, conjecture all day long, and still not know what it would truly be like. Noone would know what its like until they played it.

Also, lets not forget the fact that Sonic Team can actually PATCH this game, unlike PSO. So if one class turns out to be better than the others, you can just patch it. End of story.

The thing is with the whole patching thing is, lets say for example FT was way too overpowered in PvP compared to the other classes/races ST would patch the game to make them weaker yes? Then this would in turn either make them weaker than another race or still stronger than another race but just nerfed slightly. Either way this would still lead to complaints because then another race would be stronger which ST would also have to weaken and so on, and so on....

Eventually the result would either be that every race/class would be in the exact same situation than before only all weakened, OR all the combinations would be balanced out making no combination stronger than the other leading to a PSO situation where it dosent really make a shit of a difference what class you play.

There most likely will be no PVP because Sonic Team didn't plan for it from the beginning. All the combat is designed for a PvE environment.

The PvP in PSO was pretty horrible...

They could probably make a decent PVP system if they sat down and took the time to plan it. I don't really think that will happen though. Plus, no one seems to want PVP from the looks of this thread.

I, on the other hand, think this game screams for PVP. I mean, yeah don't get me wrong, playing the same missions over and over again until my hands fall off is the most exciting thing in the world, (/sarcasm) but additional modes would be great, and PVP seems like a no-brainer.

As for C-mode... o.O I thought that was what Bruce's Dungeon was for.

...but yeah, any new modes at all would be great. I would even go for like, an Ollaka juggling mini-game at this point or something.

There doesn't always has to be some big reward for everything. Think of it as a sport. That's why i want PVP, simply to compete against/with others.

1V1 PVP is kinda lame. I think that is what most people think of when PVP is mentioned. I'm hoping for team PVP though, some sort of capture the flag kind of thing.

It may be, but who are you to say that it is entirely impossible that this could happen after what you said?

Adding PvP later on into a strictly PvE game's life never leads to good things.

EVER.

Get a hold of ST and ask them to build a PS=themed game with PvP the main feature, not some half-assed tacked on ultra unbalanced and exploitable system afterwards.

A: We don't know what Sonic Team is, was and ever will be planning for this game. For all you know, PVP could have been something they wanted to implement.

B: Conjecture is nice, but nobody knows exactly how a PVP match will turn out when there is no way to get the cold, hard, data (IE- actual PVP matches). A lot of things that seem obvious on paper fail miserably in practice. A lot of things are assumed with obvious fallacy attached to them that in reality would not be a hindrance. In short, we do not know, we do not have a metagame. To say something will or will not work in PVP at this point is silly.

C: If there ultimately is a PVP mode, it will exist whether you like it or not. And we have no way of knowing for certain whether or not it will 'ruin' the game in any of the ways suggested.

I'll take C-mode over battle mode any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Not to say I wouldn't turn down half-decent PvP. I've encountered too many people I would love to smack around.

I think I'm gonna go with the C-Mode supporters. If they add a new game mode, I'd really prefer C-Mode, much much much much funnier than anything else, at least for me.
