Ok so there is an expansion pack, but to my understanding it says here that you do not need to play the regular PSU to play the expansion since the expansion is stand-alone, but then its not considered an expansion then. So that means I should wait for the expansion instead of going out and buy the regular version but what I'm confused about is whether or not all the content on the regular PSU will be on the expansion if its really a stand-alone game or do you need the regular PSU to play the regular content after all?

Well, it is an expansion because it includes all of the stuff from PSU, plus expanded material. It's not completely stand alone because all of your characters on PSU can be transfered to the new game... you can wait for the expansion, but you're going to be a LV1 player amongst a bunch of LV100 players and their alts.

Is that....bad?

Not really, people start new characters all the time. Its refreshing to start a new character when you've been grinding with your main for a while.

*shrug* I wouldn't want to do it, but it's really up to you. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Oh ok so what do you suggest then? Start now? Or start later?

If you can afford the game disc and ten bucks a month, might as well start now.

Hmm, well its up to you and your wallet, but personally I would buy PSU before AoI. I found PSU quite overwhelming, especially the synthing marlarkey, you might wanna get a grip of the game before all the new content comes out.

I would start now since I [personally] wouldn't want to only have a lower level character amongst a lot of high levels. But on the other hand, if you want the game to be full with new missions and content, I would wait for the expansion.

Well money is not a problem, I found the game for 14 bucks and I am willing to spend 10 bucks a month (heh I did with PSO BB anyway for a while until....well....you know whats going on with BB nowadays anyway) because well I like Phantasy Star, but what I'm referring is whether to experience the game now as it is today or wait later and level my HUmar and my FOnewearl to level 200.

plus you never really know how long the expansion will take to be released. they give dates, but....you know, it never happens when they say. you could be waiting FOREVER...dun dun dunnnnnn

he won't be the only one starting at 1 when the expansion hits. when AoI is released there will be a lot of new people on the servers. but personally I would start now if I could. there's a lot to be done in this game and it doesn't hurt to make some early headway. especially if you're going to be a force or ranger type. since the current grinding system works in their favor.

I say give it a look.

Copies of the game on ebay have been going for several dollars, rarely over 10. You could probably end up paying more for your online fee than your copy of the game.

true that, I'm still buying the regular version since we don't know when the expansion is coming.

I thought there were less people playing it on the 360? And I don't have a 360 anyway so it doesn't matter...me = PS2 and PSUPS2 + USB Keyboard (I got like 3)= awesome experience.

There's actually more on 360. But there is more than enough on the PS2 servers.

Not quite. The 360 population is roughly 3-4 times the size of PS2/PC. Doesn't really matter which one you choose though. Its the same game.

There's plenty of people on the PS2 servers. I find new people constantly. Say hi if you ever see me running around.

Yeah I know, around 800 people on peak hour...better than PSOBB umm..."other server" I can tell you that.

So I'm going to guess that at the first months of PSU the servers were almost (or) full but then because of the negative feedback everyone left xcept the 360 dudes because its the only game that doesn't require Xbox Live Gold?

There were more active users on the PC/PS2 servers at the beginning, but there's always been more on Xbox 360. With several demo weekend events the population actually was growing for some time. Server outages coupled with rampant cheating, which are now both long-resolved, contributed to many PC/PS2 players leaving. The Xbox 360 servers did not have to deal with either.

Also, Phantasy Star Universe isn't the first online multiplayer title to not require XBL Gold: Final Fantasy XI for Xbox 360 does not require it, either. This has little to do with anything, though.

I see well...hopefully the expansion will change that

mrlion
Jun 13, 2007, 02:18 PM
And personally I prefer smaller communities over 1000s of people like oh I dunno....WoW...XD which has the most negative online community I've ever seen since Diablo 2.

and if your a 360 player your gonna need the original game disk as it will be DLC from the marketplace. No need for a second disk.
