Thanks for the warm welcomes - allways like PS communities they are the just the best http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I am torn between either a gunner or supporting caster - I prefere the support roles and was wondering if you can carry more than 10 of a magic regen this time http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

In general, both FO types and RA types could be support roles. They just do it differently.
FO's cast buffs, debuffs, and heal.
RA's try to apply various status effects to disable enemies. You'll have to try both out to see which you'd prefer.

In the end, if you end up liking both, GunTecher might be the class for you. They're the only advance class out there that's support heavy. But are pretty weakened at the same time (until the expansion comes out).

But don't worry about it till you play around with FO, RA and HU classe. They all play a bit differently from PSO. So you still gotta try and see what you'd like 1st.

Fortecher ForteFighters and ForteGunner all have the same regen bonus within thier respective abilities.
(+25%).

well you could combine the two and be a guntecher. gun shooter with some tech use. in the expansion they'll be even better at buffing the group. these days all your regen items are in 20's http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

you can be a guntecher for your advanced class (half gunner and half techer) http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

Rangers can do more for support than just status effects. They can knock things over with certain guns and bullets, keep enemies fixated on them to help protect the casters and fighters, and their sheer damage isn't too bad for complimenting someone else's Damage over Time status effects if you use the right guns.

Welcome to PSU. Good to have another PC player. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Don't worry about what class your gonna be that much. You can always change, so if you change your mind you can just switch classes without having to make a whole new character.

Plus, you have 4 character spots, so you can have 4 different race/class combos.
You can also take characters multiple classes. A lot of people do that. Fortefighter/Fighgunner and Fortegunner/Guntecher are among the easiest dual class setups to pull off, but any set up can be done. (Heck, some people have set up a single character to do efficiently do all classes.)

If you need anything, lemme know. If I'm at my PC, I'm on MSN.
Not always AIM though. AIM + PSU + My PC = Meltdown.

Each player has an individual ID, so you can name your character whatever you want even if it's already in use. But then you have to worry about clones running around http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif. I recomend being as original as possible.

Fortetecher also has access to bows, cards and the same bullet levels as fortegunner. So you can still use long range weapons. Guntecher is also a good class.

Welcome to PSU.

my i ask why wheatpenny is in the PSU section? I thought you didnt like PSU...
Anyhoo, noramlly i'd mflip out and whine that this should be in the lounge section, but this is better off here where everyone can help you.
I would be glad to help ya out monday, if my disk works correctly. Don't worry about being "new" on PSU. There are plenty of people here that would gladly help you get started and make you feel like you have been playing this game for ages.
That sounded lame, but i hope you get what im saying.

No I never said I didn't like PSU I just left back in Feb cause Sega was being flaky on the updates and it made me kinda miffed, went to play Wow realized how much of a unforgiving treadmill that was and came back a couple weeks ago and clocked back in to play PSU http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Oh hey, a newcomer. Helping out new people has come to be the funnest part of the game (it's the thing I do the least, so it's the most exciting). I'm the resident sad-eyed fish knight, look me up when you log in. My character's name is "Levia".

I may as well show you some areas of interest.

This (http://pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=143674&forum=20&719) has pictures taken in PSU. Interesting place, and fun to check through.

This (http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic=139209&forum=20&start=75) is a picture thread for the expansion beta, which will let you see what's coming up. This (http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=139201&forum=20&1117) is the Q&A thread, which will tell you what to expect from the expansion. Obviously, the expansion is the most exciting thing going on.

In your early levels, you can solo easily, so don't do what the higher levels are doing and just spam one mission. Instead, go through as many missions as you can, to see all of Gurhal before settling down in a grinding area. Before even leaving your room, do the tutorial that your floaty robo-thingy gives you, it'll give you the basics. The online story missions also help explain a few things, but not as much.
If you want a jump on the game, play the offline story mission. It gives you the basics, but still little enough that you'll still be a noob when you join.

As for gunner vs. force, I'll assume you played PSO. I'll try to run through a comparison, though I've played neither.

Force can do heavy damage in one shot, while gunners do smaller amounts in large quantities. Forces seem to be better in pure damage over time, assuming all their hits don't miss (it's rather hard to aim as a force, especially with low level techs). While forces can do status effects with their spells, gunners can do them more reliably with their guns, or use traps to do them instantly. Forces of course can heal and buff, which they are expected to do (especially if their a pure force). Gunners are great against flying enemies and against bosses, since flying enemies are so hard to hit, and they don't have to worry too much about dodging boss attacks (not to mention most bosses like to stay outside of melee range. I'm not sour!).
Did that help any?

If you want a mix of Force and Ranger, I'd advise sticking with Fortetecher for now, especially if you want to foucs on support. Fortetecher has level 30 bullets as well as level 30 technics (level 30 are the highest level Photon Arts at the moment). Guntecher has level 30 bullets, but level 10 technics, and the lowest TP of all teching classes (Oh yes, and now instead of MST as your mind strength, MST is the equivalent of Magic Defense, and TP is the equivalent of Magic Attack).

But come AoI in Novemeber, Guntechers will have level 30 support technics, and will only be surpassed in that category by Acrotechers (one of the two new classes being introduced in the expansion, the other is Acrofighter). Guntecher will also have level 40 bullets, which will still be the highest bullet levels along with Fortegunner.

Also I'm Green Archer, I'll be sure to help you out some if I run into ya http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
