You do not lose the Battle stats of your PM by upgrading it to another model.
You only lose your battle stats of the PM as well as synthesis stats by using a PM ZERO device.

a higher battle stat gives your PM better AI, like it wont stand in front of a vandas fire if it has a high level.

I had a PM on another character get their "battle stat" up to around 70 and I really didn't notice any difference at all. Anyways, I like the 411 more because it has better PA's. I've tested out the 412 and it's oh so fun when it uses it's SUV , if you can manage to keep it alive long enough to get it charged, on a empty room.
