If I'm not mistaken, chips are more commonly known as grinder bases.

in the famitsu event missions, there are 3 total "famitsu chips" in each mission. if you get all 3, you get more pts in the end, which increases your mission rank reward.

Chips

* Machinery Chip GT - 'A low-cost chip. Cheap, but still fairly powerful.'
* Machinery Chip ST - 'A high-end consumer chip with powerful specifications.'
* Machinery Chip AT - 'A high-end consumer chip with powerful specifications.'
* Machinery Chip TT - 'A high-end consumer chip with powerful specifications.'
* Machinery Synapse - 'A high-end research chip with powerful specifications.'

From Mewn's file dump. Is that what you're talking about?
