depends on what type of dump file you mean. There's the dump file where you just put random files and folders to mess with them laters, but chances are you are talking about the error one.

When an error occurs a dump file is made where info and some of the memory is stored in order to offer a daignosis for why the computer errored. A file dump can include

• The Stop message and its parameters and other data
• A list of loaded drivers
• The processor context (PRCB) for the processor that stopped
• The process information and kernel context (EPROCESS) for the process that stopped
• The process information and kernel context (ETHREAD) for the thread that stopped
• The Kernel-mode call stack for the thread that stopped

because you probably don't know what the kernal of an operating system is, I'll give you the basic version of it. It's basically the core of the operating system and helps the hardware and the operating system communicate with one another.
