What the heck happend to summoning?

It just dawned on me.. way back in the day on Dreamcast PSO there was a set of weird summons your mags could do for you... I miss those, and it would be kinda neat if the made a semi-comeback. Now i wouldnt want a carbon copy of something from back then, however i would think that one or two summoning technics would have been nice. Knowing casts however they are going to get SOME sort of summoning SUV in the future (feel the vile sarcasm)..

Anyway thought i would share and spark a conversation.

photon blasts...they were broken, ST wrote them out along with mags. in their place we got SUVs (summoning large guns) and Nanoblasts (which can be seen as summoning a monster to fight in your place for a short time...kinda)

I actually wouldn't at all mind humans getting summons, along with newmen getting faster movement/attacking speed for a short period. I feel they do need something. Sure, they can do any job decently, but they don't look pretty once every five minutes. And isn't that what PSU is all about?

Were not getting mags, were getting madoogs. Aesthetically similarly, but gampeplay-wise completely different. Madoogs are tech casting weapons, not some uber buffing piece of equipment that summons etheral beings to do your bidding.

XD i guess .. but you would think i was branded a heretic or something for bringing this up... I mean seriously.. other games have pet-jobs.. and although that wouldnt work very well in PSU, there are ways to employ the use of "I summon my big freaking pet monster" technics... In the end tho i play other games to get my pet-job fix.

The term "broken" is refering to this:

"A game object or facility that is too good to exist. It is so powerful that it is unbalancing and hence breaks the game."

In other words,it was so good,that it made it too easy,since there are so positives and very little, if at all negatives.

It's commonly used for games like Marvel vs Capcom 2,because so many elements,characters have things that make them miles better than the rest of the cast. A severe lack of balance depending on the player.
Or like Eddie in Guilty Gear XX:Accent Core. His move list/playstyle is very different from the rest of the game,and leaves little room for any others to catch up.

in pso you may have noticed that when you did a photon blast there was a number next to your character into in the top left. say a "1" in a hexagon. that was your number in the order. in a team, once everyone had a photon blast they could all trigger theirs at the same time as you if they had full meters as well. so they'd have "2" "3" "4" next to their names. when blasts were comboed their effects were increased exponentially. so while by yourself you may only do 500 damage with pilla, a combo with pilla, esthella, farla and the twins (milla&youlla) did about 5-6k damage to all enemies that any of those blasts hit while the twins rather than casting shifta and deband 10 on just you, cast shifta and deband 50 on the entire party.

with shifta and deband 50 and a force with decent debuffs, you were practically invincible taking no more than 10 or 20 damage even from high damage enemies and doing roughly double your normal amount of damage. furthermore the durration of the effects was so long that one could usually run forest caves and half of mines before needing to reapply buffs.

that's why it was broken

Zorafim uses the Twins (I forget their names). Zorafim gets Shifta/Deband level 10.

Obsidian uses Twins, Zorafim uses Varlla. Both Obsidian and Zorafim get Shifta level 20 (maybe higher), and Varlla's damage is boosted. Duration of Shifta/Deband increases as well.

Obsidian uses Twins, Zorafim uses Varlla, Sychosis uses Pilla. All three of us get Shifta level 30(approximately), and damage from the two blasts is increased.

Basically, with a four-way blast, your ATP/DFP skyrockets. I think on my level 200 HUmar I almost broke 5000 ATP. It's totally not fair to the monsters, assuming Varlla/Pilla/Estlla didn't kill them all outright. Shifta/Deband also get some ridiculously long duration as well.

Everyone needs to shoot theirs off before any of the animations start (when the circles appear on the floor. If the thing appears and does it's intro you're too late). Usually someone just says "Go!" and everyone presses their button. If two people are using the same blast they can't go one after the other, or they'll just act as one blast (with no bonus effect).
