View Full Version : Should I switch from fighGunner to forteGunner ?

I've been thinking that I'd like to go forteGunner, but I have a few things stopping me.

1 - Like a lot of fighGunners, I have mostly double sabers. They are however all Nightwalkers with good %'age.
I am crossing my fingers that from selling 5 of these babys that I'll have some change left over after getting all the guns I need.

2 - The PP thing. I guess I'll still have my frying pan , but I don't like the idea of running out of PP every few seconds.

3 - PA's - I have no idea what these are like. The only one I have is the machine gun one, and it kinda sucks.

Could someone here, perhaps a fellow switcher, tell me what I'm getting myself in for?

btw: I'm a lvl 64 Male Cast.

PP duration won't become a problem for you as much as it does for a low level Ranger. A rank guns have enough PP to last them for a while. Lasers and Grenades are really the only thing that empty quickly. Shotguns rarely run out for me.

As far as Bullets go, the standard ones are all applying an element and SE to your bullet. Personally this is how I would set up bullets:

Rifle - SE4. Most important thing. I'd go Fire/Dark. DoT is the major concern here.
Twin Handguns - Anything really. Twins are good for SE and damage. I use Fire/Lightning/Dark, good DoTs and Stun for fast annoying enemies.
Shotgun - Really it's the same principle as the Twins. I use Earth because not only does it severely boost the damage against Lightning enemies, but also leaves Vandas Diga and Damufoieless.
Machinegun - This thing rarely pumps out SE, so it's mostly for damage. I use Ice/Earth/Light because they are the most likely to have elemental advantage and do even more DoT.
Laser - No too fond of it, but Lightning would definitely be useful. Stunning packs of enemies is a great support to the team.
Grenade - Ice/Dark. The element really doesn't matter for me, because I typically use it on larger enemies. Very good damage dealer.

As far as Ultimate bullets go, I always find Killer Shot and Twin Mayalee of use, but the Laser has insta knockback and Nade has insta freeze. Someone more experienced at FG could probably help here better than I.

RegulusHikari - Thanks for taking the time to reply! I just hope I can raise enough funds from selling my doubles!

I do love the idea of being able to swap the element of the gun when I fancy... very cool.

what system are you on? I havea fair amount of everything, so if the %s on the nightwalkers are good I might be able to work something out for you.

theres never a mission that having a fortegunner is bad.

missions like Desert Terror; figuns are just useless (the hell they doin there anyway??? go find a rucar of sumthin)



every mission is done asap w/ 5-6 fortegunners.

you can solo easily with fortegunner if you gotten you bullets to 21+ (rifles, crossbows). At least, I have no problem soloing as fortegunner.

most people can solo with a fG...but then some people can solo with ANY class...that's beside the point...fGs are just major contributors to any party and are frightening in swarms

i was a fighgunner since they gave us the expert classes and just recently switched to fortegunner.

i enjoy being a fortegunner alot more because

a.)dont have to worry about %
b.)its easier to get a party imo
c.)shotguns, yes shotguns
d.)status effects are always a good thing

that and fighters dont look good in trench coats...thats a personal reason.

but not being able to just beat the crap out of stuff with a stick of mighty beating, not to be confused with the mighty beating stick, does kinda suck, but i still can use a single saber to knock stuff on the ground so its not that bad

Figgies can contribute to most parties too with their most excellent mob control. And hey, they've got guns too. Too bad most figgies forget that. :P

Although I have to agree on that a fortegunner usually does a better job at Desert Terror than a figgy. Usually.

In any case, I'm all for balanced parties.

i dont play with other people with my fortegunner as much. It's just not fair for the enemies you know...lol. I usually apply virus to them, then I use shock on them to render them useless especially the melee enemies. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Lv. 4 virus, freeze, and fire on my rifles.
Lv. 3 virus, shock, fire, and freeze on my crossbows that shot three bullets...ouch.

Being a fG has its Pros and Cons
-away from battle =D
-no weapon % worries since it's fixed
-Rifles...level them EARLY
-if they see a fG, they expect YOU to use Traps...>.>
-you can bring downFlying mobs for the fighters to slaughter
-levelling bullets can be a pain

i heard from others that doesnt play fortegunner...they usually said "fortegunner is a boring class and all you do is shoot" >_>
It is so sad though....the one who complain about the class is also the one that didnt get any S rank board...lol (i wont mention names). I got a few S rank board while soloing by myself and makes some money along the way.
As a fortegunner, it keeps me occupy and move around on my toes. I havent play my meleeing characters or my force lately thanks to my fortegunner. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I find that Figun and FG are the two best soloing classes PERIOD. FG can just infect everything away and Figun can melee its way through mobs until it hits larger enemies, in which case you can switch to Twins/Crossbow or deploy traps to speed things up.

Soloing the harder missions as a WT or GT is not quite so easy. Typically I'm being flung around too much to actually get any good moves off and cause some decent damage. FF is good up until you get to some seriously melee threatening or resistant mobs. Good luck burning/infecting those things. I can't say anything for FT, but just thinking about the slow casting times vs. those dodgy Bul Buna/Jishagara or jumping Vears turns me away from it.

Rashiid does have a point. What the hell ARE fighgunners doing at DT-S2 anyway? They can't use none of the S ranks that drop there (maybe the knuckles, I don't know) and they're pretty much useless if they don't have Tornado Dance. Well, forget about Tornado Dance. Boma Maga (freeze grenade) pretty much immobilizes the Bil de Vears and the Drua Gohras are dead once I set my Gur Nedac on auto-fire.

And what about the Dimmagolus? Fighgunners can only use handguns, which really aren't the weapon of choice in this instance. Rifles and STRONG melee weapons like axes are good when the Fortegunners clip the Dimmagolus's wings.

Techer classes are almost necessary for this mission thanks to their buffs and stat-nullifier spells.

What are you talking about? Us Fighgunners can do fine in Moatoob. I can still put traps on the alligators and Buten Shuren Zan them, I can Assault Crush or Moubu Seiren Zan the Bil de Vears and wurms, shoot, and maybe Rising Crush the wurms, use an ice crossbow on the berds, Rising Crush or Rising Crush or Shunbu Shouren Zan on the Vandas or whatever.

maybe FGs are there to hunt for S ranks for their Mains?

and about teh "boring and just shoot" thingy, that's not quite true. that Shooting is a big help for fighters as it cancels their attacks and leaves them open.

One must play the fG class to know it's true Potentail =p

Typically people play where they want for reasons of their own. I'm there to hunt a weapon for myself and 3 others for friends of mine. Guess I'll start seeing "OLOL FG OR BOOT" games, since apparently they do it best. Figuns have Handguns, Twin Handguns, Machine guns, Crossbows, and some traps. Sure, they don't have infect, but burn DoTs faster and Figuns can detonate up close so that the FGs don't have to worry about getting Drua/Vear'd.

In fact, going by your logic of guns, why are Fortefighters in DT S2? They can't SE for crap. Freeze is useless when you've got six guns firing off into the same monster, anyway. And Twin Handguns actually out damage non Phantom combo rifles.

Guess I should go back to Mad Beasts, where I belong. Oh and I should pick up T-Dance while I'm at it, oh wait I'll get crucified for that too. :eyeroll:

FGs are good, SEs are amazing, but you can't tell everybody to GTFO if they don't have a Rifle or Buffs. Well actually... you can... you'd just look like an asshole. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

are you insane? FGs have mechs, xbows, dualies, AND handguns. they have traps and an array of weapons. I can fight bil de vears point blank and not get hit once. tornado dance is only for kogg nads and dru goras, everything else, theres a better skill.

who cares if the drops aren't what FGs are looking for? that has nothing to do with how well they perform!

dimmagolus vs dualies: dualies win. they don't get the range rifles do, but the DPS is good and dimma is easy enough to tag.

I was gonna say,I find Moatoob to be one of the better planets to play a figh. I never seem to have problems there. Fact,I'd rather run there than just about anywhere else.

I think at worst bots give me a little trouble. Other than that...

and it has animals. but i loved playing moatoob as a fighgunner. i got tired so i switched to fortegunner. i love shotguns too much so i r not going back to fighgunner that and i sold my crea doubles which was all that was keeping me at fighgunner

FiG's are good. Fortegunners are better.

FiGunners are for people with low patience, bullets and techs take a long time to get from 11->21, skills, less so. I can level a skill from 1->11 in 1 or 2 hours. Can't do that with bullets or techs, and I've gone through 6 wands a mission trying.

I love to solo as a fighgunner, but I love to party as a fighgunner. I say don't sell all your doubs, you can get away with a rifle, twin handgun, shotgun. That's 90% of what I use. I use others too, but those are by far my top 3 and 1 of each is all I need (assuming I have charges)

fred is currently a fighgunner, and is ultra fun, if you aren't using doublesabers, u should...imo it is the whole point behind that class in my opinion.

drumlines and buccaneers=comedy fun/ jarba killers

ultimate dance PA

all around versatility/ badassery

ForteGunners and FiGunners are both great classes and they both RAWK! You should play them just to enjoy the jobs, and you'll get great enjoyment from both =D. *He says this as a dark shadowy figure looms behind him with a ban hammer held over his head threatenly*
