No, their character designs are definitely different. Apart from the tops which could possbily be seen as similar, their is nothing to implicate their looks are any more similar than 90% of anime based fantasy characters. Then again, anything anime based ends up looking like just about all other animu characters.

Stories...well thats a possibility, I didnt ever play 10 actually, only watched it get played. So I wouldnt be the judge of that.

As much as i hate to say it, seeing as FFX is one of my favorite games, it is the typical magical girl. Kinda.
Saves the world along with her hubby... you know the deal. But with an Actual decent story, Plot twists, And blitzball.
But yea, the only thing they got in common is they are female, have some part in saving the world, and have generic guy at their side

Final Fantasy is by no means original in any way. Take 12 for instance. Great game, Im not going to deny that at all, but the whole "EMPIRES AT WAR WITH AIRSHIPS"? Yah, thats been done...alot. Skies of Arcadia anyone?

Oh yah, and the whole FF7 Aeris died deal? Yah, Nei totally has her beat on that. Beat he by what, nearly a decade?

Basically, people were talking about stuff, then Cherry posts a picture of a HUnewarl from the cover of a hentai doujin. Where her nipples should be, Cherry placed Ash's grinning head over each one. Hilarty and bans ensue.

Not arguing, but ff2 was where the deaths were at.
Chrsit, everyone you met dies. Hows that for a story?

In north America? roughly, but how do you copy a game in a month when they take time to devolope, advertise, and ship? Besides, PSI and FFI are nothing alike in gameplay, characters, or story...

Forumchibi

Bah, you're generalizing way too much. Every female protagonist (major or minor) is a rising star of some sort. Any character with power in general is always also being exploited (I hate to quote Spider Man, but with great power does come great responsibility http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif). It's also not an uncommon priestess outfit in Japan. Even Sakura from Card Captor Sakura wears that in one episode.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v340/Forumchibi/sakura1.gifhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v340/Forumchibi/sakura2.gif

Kikyou from InuYasha and Rei from Sailor Moon also wear traditional priestess garbs which are the basis for the same thing (not my images).

lol, i wasnt implying that Phantasy Star ripped off FF it was just a semi off topic question lol

Phantasy Star released about three months after Final Fantasy in Japan. In the US, Phantasy Star was released about two years before Final Fantasy was. In fact, Phantasy Star was in it's second installment (on the Genesis) before Final Fantasy I even released on US NES's.

As for the name, there were several generic "Fantasy" titles out at the time - both in setting and in title. Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior were among the best well known. Since Phantasy Star was to be such a radically different pseudo sci-fi space faring endevour rather than a traditional midevil level crunch - they decided to give the game's title a unique spelling to highlight how unique the game was. It was not a "ripoff" of Final Fantasy.

As for the Mirei - Yuna connection, I don't really see it. The main connection between the two is the Nei-Neifirst connection, however it was executed rather poorly and became a generic, rather than a significantly meaningful event. However, I do see Mirei as a much closer match to Yuna than Neifirst. I think it has more to do with generic Japanese stereotypes than anything else though.

And Ethan is Tidus...

Both were dumbass annoying main characters..
Both fall in love with the girl..
Both fight annoying ass pricks who just don't seem to die.. and eventually become/lead into the final boss.
Both team up with beasts that use spears...
Both are looking for their father
And of course..
Both need to be beaten with a WOOS (wooden oar of stupidity) for being so corny, lame, and cheesy.

Yep.. definatly agree.. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif
Though I don't understand why Sega wanted to copy FFX in the slightest.. the game was alright, and the characters were totally lame...
Oh! and Hyuga can be Wakka... Ethan's sister can be Rikku... Tohnio can be... uhhh.. a moogle.. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
