I'm pretty excited about this because I hate swtiching off between my wireless controller and my big, wired usb keyboard. Apparently it comes with a wired headset as well. At $30 I'm definately picking this up.
Edit: It's backlit too, another plus!

Um...this isn't spam. It directly relates to the Xbox 360 version of PSU. It looks hella convenient and I thought maybe some other 360 players would like to know about it. it plugs into the bottom of the controller in case anyone is curious.

Looks pretty cool - would like to see some more pics how this works. Does it attach to the wide part of the controller/head phone jack area?

It snaps onto the bottom of the controller, plugging into the headphone port. A wired headset is included with it, which I assume plugs into a throughput port of some sort on the chatpad itself.
One thing I'm a tad concerned about is whether or not this will actually be compatible with Phantasy Star Universe. The game works with a USB keyboard, of course (I use one of those myself), but this device isn't exactly a USB keyboard.

According to this page, yes: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/catalog.aspx?st=messenger+kit&g=0&s=0&p=1&c=10
Also, on another forum I found out that the wired headset that is included is different from the current wired headset:
Larry Hryb mentioned in his recenbt podast that there will be a new headset socket MS will push as the new standard, and this will be included with the chatpad.
The new headset will bring the mute and turn up/down button onto the wire itself.

That looks nice - though the setup vaguely resembles the atari jaguar controller... *shudder*

Looks like a power hog if it is backlit, and the buttons may have some small-ness issues, oh and how "Heavy" is that thing?
and where are you going to put in your mic? is that another little mic thing i see in the bottom?

I just emailed Sega Support about this very issue. I got a quick response:
We have not done any testing with this device to ensure compatibility,
but if it works like a keyboard, it will function with the game.
Unfortunately, Microsoft has not approached us with a compatibility
check, so we will all have to wait and see.
So odds are, yes. They just can't say so because they haven't tested it.

1. Maybe. I don't think LEDs take that much more power, though.
2. It's a thumb keyboard, so the size is appropriate. Never was a fan of thumb keyboards to begin with, personally.
3.

the lights power down after a few seconds.
No 1 has specified that it will work in the game yet, though I'm hoping it does.
I would love to ditch my bulky wireless keyboard already.
(waits for Garnet-Moon to come in here and post something retarded again)

The only reason that I'm not gonna buy that is because I think it is too small.

Looks nice. And a new mic you say? Hmm... it interests even a person like me who strays away from mics...
This new chatpad may just be worth the $30.

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif I have to say $30 is way better than the $60 I payed for my wireless headset.
