I finished half the CCNA 2 curriculum today >_>

probably finish the remainder tommorow, take final on monday or over the weekend, then spend rest of the time doing labs or going back over it again.

what I find funny about this whol situation though, is my mom was starting to get on me for staying in my room and being on the computer all day. (mostly FKL of course)

Yet she's really happy I'm doing this, even though all I do is go to my classroom and read my textbooks on the computer for 6 straight hours and take some tests. More productive yes, but I'm not getting out anymore then I was before (which was her previous complaint.)

Don't worry about going out, you got time for that later. You're only 18 so don't sweat it. If you pass this exam it may open a lot of doors for you as a networker. A lot of people your age don't have that opportunity, so take advantage of it.

I am taking advantage of it, it's a brand new curriculum world wide from a company that is responsable for manufacturing 80% of the world big businesses' routers, and I'm half way through it in a day. >_>

plus, having in A all first semester next year (since i will already have comleted what the class is doing) and having free time during tech hours till november should be awesome. Might get to work with the school techs, or I might study another curriculum for some other certification. I know some of the time will be dedicated to my senior project, but I'm not sure what I want to do yet. Can't remember all the details, but I need to do something noteworthy, write a big paper on it or something, then discuss it infront of a panel of people >_>

it can be anything from making a network design, to an invention, or just a study guide for others to use.

Oh, and I'm not 18 till the 22nd http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

only got 1 1/2 chapters today, 5 was freaking huge. With all the simulation labs in it and all the reading, it took me 4 hours to complete. They shoved all the basic setup and configuration for routers and switches into Chapter 5. Also, it's all done through a comand line. For those of you that don't know, think DOS. You have a line of text specifying where you are in the router, and you enter appropriate commands to alter stuff.

As for chapter 6, there was just one really long 40 minute simulation lab, which was why I didn't finish it. It gave me a network setup consisting of three routers linked together, and each router had a switch connected to it and two things hooked into each switch. I had to set the adressing for everything in there, then configure Routing Interface Protocol version two on all the routers.

Also, the simulation program I use, Packet Tracer, by no means makes anything easier to do than in RL except setting up the physical stuff. It runs in real time, and you even have to wait for computers to and devices to boot up, establish connection with one another, and everything else.

That said, Chapter 5 is by far my favorite, and a god send after 2 of the 4 of yesterday's chapters. One was for working a helpdesk, and the other for onsite technician. Neither of which I want to go into (though help desk is the general starter IT career.) I want to get into security, which was why I was genuinly happy to do chapter 5, as I'm finally beginning to get into how managing a business class router and swtich really works.

I can now set up routers and manage every port on the damn things (we call them interfaces.) This include setting passwords, setting default IPs to send packets to, establishing RIP on serial ports, setting up a VLAN on a switch, giving every damn port it's own address, veiw detailed config information that would make a normal person go WTH and understand it all, set passwords on the routers themselves, establishing NAT, setting clock speeds, picking out new interfaces to add to a router or switch, and a bunch of other stuff.

I swear, most of the world is blissfully ignorant of how much goes on so they can have their internet. Yet, I did so many labs, it take me anywhere from about 6-10 mins to set up a small business router with passwords on several modes and asign each port the needed address so it works.
