I believe there was a court case once where a guy lost several items on his MMORPG due to a failure or a hack or something. He sued the company on the basis that he should be paid copmensation, because the time spent getting those items could have been spent making money. Because he now had no items and (supposedly) it wasn't his fault, he demanded a "refund" of cash for all the items lost.

I don't remember how the final verdict turned out. Probably got his ass owned in court and laughed at.
