View Full Version : Overused Character Names

This is the infamous list of names which people are obsessed with, which most come from sadistic killng games with "badass" (corny) characters, or from anime shows.

Dante - Dante isn't a badass, he's a freaking white-haired pretty boy with a gun and his mommie's red trenchcoat.

Naruto - Most of the "Naruto" characters in PSU don't even LOOK like Naruto, but then again, who'd want to imitate that character anyway...?

Sakura - Same as above, what is your obsession with being a totally overlooked character in a not-so-good anime show?

Sephiroth - The king of evil in Final Fantasy, NOT Phantasy Star Universe. You're not cool because your name attracts anime cat girls.

Killer - You're not actually "killing" anything, as it's clearly stated that everything you "kill" is defeated. I.E. "Defeated the Gol Dolva!"

(Japanese first-last name combos) - Unless you're actually Japanese and it's your name, and you have an obsession with giving away personal information, it is suggested that you don't even waste the time making up a name which probably means "Hot dog-eating moron"

Ownage - You couldn't 'own' me if you had adoption papers, buddy. Go back to Halo 2 and have a teabag fest with your 13-year old buddies.

I actually like the names Dante and Sakura, though I'm no big fan of Devil May Cry or Naruto, also, it's not like they invented the names, both names have been around far longer than either series, also if they wanna' name it after the character, hey have every right to. >_>;

Anyway, peeps can name characters what they want, if they like a name, then they should use it; hell, I don't care if they name their character "Super Dung Ball", it doesn't really matter. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Admittedly, the only time I ever made a character based on one from an anime was Chika Ito from Strawberry Marshmallow, but that was primarily just to see if I could, didn't keep her for long. :/

Only one I'd really consider now would be Arle Nadja, but only if I could give her the skirt and bracer (or the shoulder armor with the cape http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif ).

To be honest, the thing that bugs me the most about names from other games or shows (besides their overuse) is the fact that they look nothing like the character, example "Sephiroth" with a purple afro...? "Rukia" with orange pigtails...?

You forgot the people who add countless symbols and characters before and after their name. Like xX_-_JohnDoe_-_Xx

I agree with both amtalx and KodiaX987, and I also forgot to mention I hate people who use the letters with accent marks on them, because people think it's cool or "1337" to have an accent mark over every letter in their name, SO "1337" that if they can't put an accent mark over one letter, they'll pick a different name. If only they new how stupid their name would sound with all those accents...

Example:
Ôwñágé

i agree with you 360nytemare, it's not the name that bugs me...it's the fact that it's all they use about it...I currently have a character named Crono whom I made a wartecher, make only use sabers, and has only 3 technics, one of which is an error as i thought he had a healing spell and gave him resta. it's fun to play with these types of restrictions...i also tried playing him with only saying "..." it didn't last long.

I have never seen 5 people with the same name.
Then again, who gives a shit? SO what if they have a character name who doesnt look like their animoo character.
Dante, before he was in animoo, was The author of Inferno. So people can make him whatever they like.
Same with Saura. I think people werent thinking of Naruto while making that. Rather Cherry Blosso.
Oh, and people have JP names because THEY FUCKING CAN

I happen to really like the name sakura long before Naruto game into creation.

Sakura translates to Cherry Blossom. Which is really cute and pretty. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I've tried to roleplay as a character from something outside PSU before, and it just didn't work. Actually, I've got characters which have no relation to anything of an anime / TV character, but they have styles and weapons similar to them. I drew the sunglasses idea for my CAST from Vash the Stampede, of Trigun.

Anyway, if you search shop:name - You're going to find about 30 different characters named "Dante"

I guess this part refer's to my main. So *bitches at the rant which this post includes drama and lulz*

Ok well now that I said that part, doesn't really matter. I associate character names with the planets I say my character was born on.

I use Asian names for Neudaiz, English for Parum, Spanish for Moatoob, and anything for the Colony.

360NyTeMaRe
Jul 27, 2007, 03:29 PM
This is what I think of the language for individual planets.

Guardian's Colony: English
Parum: English / 1337-speak
Neudaiz: Japanese
Moatoob: Middle-Eastern or African?

I used Ryúden because it doesn't show up when you search Ryuden so people would have to go out of their way to find my room.

And Alucard was the name i've seen turn up more than any other, that and nitemare.

It doesn't matter in your name, you only have one accent mark, and it probably is correct. When people have accent marks over every letter, it becomes a problem.

All those Dante's could be talking about Dante's Inferno, the BOOK. Plus, the DMC Dante isn't THAT bad (Or at least, he was badass in the first game.)

360NyTeMaRe
Jul 27, 2007, 07:56 PM
It doesn't even matter where it's from, but it's the fact that there's 40 Dante's in PSU.

There's a lot more Steve's and Mike's or other NORMAL names in books and TV shows, but noone is obsessed with those names.

Kylie

It's just asking for trouble when someone uses a popular name cause people on PSU can't seem to tell the difference between characters even with the most obvious differences.

I like Japanese names, they have a pleasant sound to them. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif The primary reason I took an interest in the Japanese language was because I liked the way the words sounded, same goes for German.

The only thing I don't like is when people aren't original. Now, i don't care when they use Sakura, for the reasons before, but when they put stuff that is most obviously associated with the name, e.g. NaRuToFOx235...
Then I absolutley hate it. My characters are original, I think. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif Tell if you've heard of such characters:
Nitro[done because my initials almost spell out nitro]
Vordex
Vortox[shouldn't have to explain this, besides they sound cool]
Renic
Syrak
Rinot
Nitroman http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif
Anyways, I just people could be more original.

Oh god...How true *wades through the 600th Naruto on Guild Wars* It's not that 360's trying to be a nazi or something by saying "No, you can't do that" or whatever. It's that it's PAINFULLY unoriginal. Originality is POSITIVE quality, it's annoying looking over a sea of Sephiroths and Narutards. It's originality that should be encouraged when making an alias.

360NyTeMaRe

I only give my character a name of a different language if I never see anyone else with the name, and I have to check to see what it means. Except Mutsumi, I don't know what it means, but it's from an animated show that not a whole lot of people watch...After I created my force character, Arianna, I noticed 2 other people stole the name...Kinda bullcrap.

Arianna is the name of my little sister. It's not like they actually stole the name from you, it's a genuine real name. Just because your the first one you see to use a name, does not suddenly mean you're the original.

Yeah the whole unique name thread of hate again. This is at least one problem I don't have to worry about. Though I find that people with a first name and last name is not that horrible. I just see them as trying to get into the role playing aspect of the game which many other people choose to ignore.

The Naruto, Sephiroth, etc phenomenom... simply means those people like those characters and want to emulate or use them. I mean, it is not a crime to use what you like now is it?

Simple solution to your problem of seen the many clones you so much hate... don't. We dont have to see the person's name above their head you know. You have the power NOT to see them. Use it. Besides Im sure you have your friends guild cards and can rendezvous via pm. See. No sweat.

The only thing that sometimes I notice are the names that aren't names at all. For example: "Im the 1337" ... that is not a name, its a statement. Or one from the past in pso gamecube: "imoleskids" . . . again, not a name. But whatever makes them happy right?

In case your wondering my name is the same as the one I use on pso world.
