Personally I think he's faking his voice.

I turn away from the mic so I can breathe
I turn away from the mic so I can breathe
I turn away from the mic so I can breathe
I turn away from the mic so I can breathe
I turn away from the mic so I can breathe
I turn away from the mic so I can breathe
I turn away from the mic so I can breathe
I turn away from the mic so I can breathe

VANILLA SNOW!

it appears some seem to think it has something to do with racism towards black people

Shadowpawn

I don't see how. There's nothing in there that gives a subtle hint of racial significants.

Sord

eh, there's a few things in the lyrics that sound like they can be attributed to raceism, but I think it's mostly just random crap or something. Here's the lyrics:

Some stay dry and others feel the pain
A baby born will die before the sin
The school books say it can't be here again
The prisons make you wonder where it went
Build a tent and say the world is dry
Zoom the camera out and see the lie
Forecast to be falling yesterday
Only in the past is what they say
Raised your neighborhood insurance rates
Makes us happy 'livin in a gay
Made me cross the street the other day
Made you turn your head the other way
(Chorus)
History quickly crashing through your veins
Using you to fall back down again
[Repeat]
Seldom mentioned on the radio
It's the fear your leaders call control
Worse than swearing worse than calling names
Say it publicly and you're insane
No one wants to hear about it now
Wish real hard it goes away somehow
Makes the best of friends begin to fight
But did they know each other in the light?
Every February washed away
Stays behind as colors celebrate
The same crime has a higher price to pay
The judge and jury swear it's not the face
(Chorus)
Dirty secrets of economy
Turns that body into GDP
The bell curve blames the baby's DNA
But test scores are how much the parents make
'Flippin cars in France the other night
Cleans the sewers out beneath Mumbai
'Cross the world and back it's all the same
Angels cry and shake their heads in shame
Lifts the ark of paradise in sin
Which part do you think you're 'livin in?
More than 'marchin more than passing law
Remake how we got to where we are

Broken schools, prison, income related to test scores. government control, the quip about Mumbai, the justice system prejudice to faces and the remark about "how we got here". Those are the only things I can point out. However, that doesn't necessary make it about African-Americans. I could be about his nationality...he could be from Mumbai. >_> I honestly don't think the song has any hidden meaning.

at this serious of a rate, this might make it into Off Topic

looking at it without all the chocolate rain in it makes it seem more like he's commenting on the poor state of society in the world or something. There's about a dozen diffrent interpretations I can think of for certain lines, but no main central point 'cept it all seems negative somehow.

SOUNDS PRETTY RACIST TO ME.

Sord

dizzy nailed most of them that seem to do with racism

though

More than 'marchin more than passing law - civil protest for equality
Dirty secrets of economy - there was racism within insurance/bank/loan companies, might still be

HMMM, ok watching the video the dude looks black to me so he possibly could be commenting on the corruption in society, and racism is apart of that so maybe thats where those racism lines come from.

Yeah but African Americans weren't the only group in the entire world to protest on civil equality. Women, gays and lesbians, immigrants and virtually any minority in any nation have called for better representation in government and media affairs.

But the others lines deal with racism against blacks so I think we can assume that one did as well.

Hmm...after looking over it again I didn't notice the February line (with it being black history month.) Maybe it is.

It's kinda sad too, given that I'm black myself and seemed to skip over THE most significant line regarding my race. >_>
